Take wing and gather together.

-The festival of stars is nigh. -You're amazing!

The festival of stars is nigh.

You're amazing!

It's the rookie we've been hoping for.

-Keith. -Didn't you even know that?

Is she dead?

Nope, she's still alive!

Then hurry up and get started!

Sure.

Let's clean our kill.

Henry! Richard!

Hey! Freshly baked buns!

Oh crap!

Good morning, Lily.

Morning, Koku!

-Um, would you-- -Sorry, I'm running late!

Um, would you-

Sorry, I'm running late!

Maybe next time!

But these are freshly baked red bean buns.

Mom! Mom! I forgot my ID!

What are you doing, you idiot?

This is 105. Homeless man's tent located off the forest road.

This is 112.

Bloodstains found in parking lot. Leaving them for the CSI.

-Good morning, ma'am! -Shh!

Good morning, ma'am!

Shh!

Good morning!

Hey. You're late.

Er, sorry about that.

Want a red bean bun? Freshly baked!

You can eat at a crime scene? How impudent.

So, are the victims more... you know?

We linked our vics to multiple murders in our jurisdiction.

We had them pegged as serial killers,

but before we could get an arrest warrant, our misguided pal got to them.

Killer B.

-I'm sorry, sir, this area is-- -It's fine, shut up.

I'm sorry, sir, this area is-

-Shoo. -Sir, I insist...

It's fine, shut up.

Shoo.

Sir, I insist...

Hey! Who the heck is that?

Er, he said he's with the RIS.

I don't know him!

You can't let an outsider in here!

Excuse me. I need your attention.

This area is currently off-limits to all but authorized personnel.

Mister? Are you drunk?

Civilians aren't allowed in--

How have you been, Genie! It's been a while!

"Genie"?

Eric and Jean are dying to see you!

You should go see them!

Hey.

That covers pretty much all of the intel we have so far. As for the rest...

Wow. It's really Keith Flick, Mario!

He's just an old has-been who's been gone for 10 years.

-Eric, everything's ready. -Good.

Eric, everything's ready.

Good.

Before we begin, let me introduce someone. Everyone, look to your two o'clock.

The man standing next to Jean is Keith Flick.

As of today, he's rejoined our unit from the Archives Division. Let's welcome him.

Hey.

Okay, Kaela. Begin.

Early this morning, multiple bodies were found in the forest area.

The victims are the Crouse Brothers, Henry and Richard.

Both were killed with a sharp, bladed weapon.

An unconscious woman was also found. She's been hospitalized for her injuries.

We've confirmed that the Crouse Brothers, including the youngest, Julian,

-abducted, imprisoned, and raped her. -Another psychopath, huh?

Speaking of whom, Julian Crouse's whereabouts are unknown.

Kill!

Kill! I'm gonna kill him!

Kill! Kill! I'm definitely gonna--

I can arrange a meeting.

If you help me out with one teeny, tiny thing.

So, who killed these criminals?

The RIS's job will be to focus on this.

Commonly known as "Killer B."

This is the lead suspect we will be pursuing.

I wish they'd call him "The lousy misguided scumbag pal."

You added "lousy" and "scumbag."

We believe he has been involved in 15 killings over the past few years.

Mario, present your report.

We've gone over this before,

but since we have a newcomer, I'll run through it again.

Cause of death, single blow from sharp blade.

No defensive wounds.

This means our perp sneaks up and cuts his victims before they can cry out.

It's certain that this guy is no amateur.

Brandon. Do you have a profile?

I've been working it from various angles,

but without any keywords to narrow it down,

there's no way to make it any more accurate.

How about the mark?

Kaela, can you put it up?

Hang on.

There's a countless number of similar ones. It's just a "B."

My eyes are dazzled.

He's even got fan sites?

I guess he's popular.

I've got a whole lot more.

Keith.

When you look at this, does anything jump out at you?

Asleep, weren't you?

-Kaela, put up those other images. -Sure. Want them all?

Kaela, put up those other images.

-Just don't dazzle Boris' eyes. -I don't think that's possible.

Sure. Want them all?

Just don't dazzle Boris' eyes.

I don't think that's possible.

-Just don't dazzle Boris' eyes. -I don't think that's possible.
What happened? Hey!
I agree.
You sure got old.
Genie.
There aren't any ashtrays.
Everywhere's no-smoking these days.
I quit smoking, too. Quite a while ago.
This bitter swill sure takes me back.
Don't drink it, then.
It's the anniversary of her death, huh? The year flew by.
Yeah.
Hard at work right after getting back, I see.
If you ever want bad coffee, come by anytime.
Sure.
Oh, almost forgot.
He knew I was lying?
Assistance requested by army and municipal police!
Someone's attacking an army convoy!
They've stolen an IFV and are now fleeing towards the capital on the Aqua Line!
The royal family has declared martial law!
-We're to obey Gen. Bern's instructions! -What's this?
Is this a revolution?
Everyone, get there ASAP!
-Mario! Take command on scene! -Roger!
Brandon, you're our liaison with the local cops!
-Roger! -Boris!
Could you handle the army? Please oversee our unit placement!
-Wait, you want me to do it? -Yes, you!
All right, fine.
-Keith. -What?
There's an emergency. I'd like your assistance.
You flies are getting on my nerves!
This looks like trouble.
Lily! We're gonna get behind it!
-Can you get ahead of or next to it? -Uh...
Cut through the park!
Rodger Dodger!
W-Wait, Lily! Don't--
I didn't mean it literally! Use the road! The road!
Target acquired!
Lily!
Here we come!
-Lily! It's firing at us! -Sorry! Falling back!
Lily!
We can't get near it with this car! You get ahead of it!
Where is he? Come on out!
Show yourself, you monster!
Die!
I'll crush you all!
This guy is nuts. I have no idea what his objective is!
We're not letting him get away!
Julian, I hate to interrupt while you're having fun,
but it's time to lose them.
Hey, Mario!
Watch the sensors!
A smoke screen and an APS?
This isn't an ordinary IFV?
It probably contains carbon fiber particles.
Radar waves are being jammed. Unable to monitor situation.
-Anything on thermal? -Not a thing.
Seal off all areas immediately. Just get that thing contained.
This is Alpha!
Eric! Where'd the IFV go? Requesting instructions!
Damn it.
Who are these people?
Who were they?
Hey, where are you taking me?
Changing rides.
The fun is just beginning.
-Any sign of the IFV? -Nothing yet.
-Where did it vanish to? -I'll boost the satellite's sensitivity.
It's pointless. Pointless.
I don't think you'll find them. Probably.
Kaela, can we see when the IFV entered the tunnel?
Sure.
Show me again.
Let it loop for a while.
Oh, I get it. That's...
It's a hybrid IFV that hasn't been made public yet.
That sound is the high-pitched tone an inverter makes.
That's why it suddenly vanished from the thermal.
It's a new IFV with stealth capabilities pushed to the limit.
I remember reading about this somewhere.
It's a cutting-edge IFV made by our undeveloped military,
independently and in top secret,
free from meddling from other countries.
Known as the 5-0.
They effortlessly steal a top-secret item, and after causing a childish ruckus,
they exploited its capabilities and vanished.
A fool's prattling, or a wise man's words?
Either way, this is tricky.
Now then.
Which one is the real objective?
What is that man doing?
What are all those weird squares and triangles?
As I recall, he called it something like the variable separation method.
If you don't know, fine.
I've known him for 20 years now.
And I've never known what was going on in his head!
That's nothing to brag about.
It's just...
if you give him time, he'll show the way.
To what?
The answer.
Diversion or robbery? Neither. A diversion to facilitate a robbery.
Two above, below, one above...
Eric.
-Remember this place? -Hey! The monitor!
That's a monitor! It's expensive!
The grounds of Oris Heavy Industries?
And what's beneath it?
The abandoned Alpine Metro line.
It connects to the trans-island railway!
The summit's station is now the Museum of Flight.
Alpha! Go to the old Alpine Metro line's starting station.
Beta! Get to the Museum of Flight!
Kaela, alert the military, too. Have them keep an eye on the skies!
Roger that!
Please respond.
Train 645, this is railway police!
Please respond, train 645!
He's really going to show up, right?
Because if you're lying...
Message from railway police!
Runaway freight train on National Rail loop line two!
Shall I divert Alpha?
Ignore it. The police and army will home in on that, anyway.
The IFV isn't on it.
The fool who's hard at work on that freight train
will be made out to be the perpetrator when it's over.
Just wait for it to stop.
He's here.
You!
Is it you?
You really came!
Hey, you--
Thank you for your hard work.
He showed up?
Yes.
Is it him?
If Quinn doesn't return, we'll know for sure.
I've been ordered to offer you an invitation.
This is a human that I'm allowed to kill. He deserves to die.
Oh, I understand! It's sudden, and now's not a good time for you!
So that's why...
I'm gonna "invite" you in my own special way!
They found us sooner than expected. We'll leave that behind.
Huh? After all this trouble?
The gas?
Got it all.
We're switching to plan B.
Minatsuki. What about Quinn?
Plan B, he said.
In other words, we abandon Quinn.
Understood.
Hey! What's the matter? Show me your skills! Your power!
The real you! Come on!
If you have no penitence in your heart, atone for your sins with your death.
Lohengrin.
The black-winged king.
He exists.
He really exists, Minatsuki!
-Li-Li-Lily! -Don't talk, you'll bite your tongue off!
Boris, sorry!
Don't move!
What's going on?
Don't be in such a rush! Let's enjoy ourselves a little!
Oh, wow!
Still, I just need to make sure you don't hit me!
I'll take that arm of yours!
I guess I misread this.
This was the main objective.
"Case is closed," huh?
Like hell it is!
They're gonna say the train overturned
and the IFV was ditched in the mountains!
I don't doubt it.
That story is more convenient for all involved.
-This is so damn fishy! -Ow!
What are you doing, Bran?
Look at this!
Hey, that's...
It can't be.
Come on, it's just a coincidence.
Yeah, it must be.
Are you seeing my marks?
I'll keep on killing.
Until you find me.
I found you.
I'll find you.
I'm...
right here.

I'm sorry.
But this has to be done. With your sacrifice,
our grand plan will become reality.
Don't look at me like that.
I need to go, so--
You awake?
What the hell, man? This isn't funny!
I'm sorry. But this has to be done.
With your sacrifice, our grand plan will become reality.
So...
I hope you can forgive me,
Mr. Yellow.
Y-You planned this all along?
No fair, let me be part...
of the plan.
Let me...
First period, science experiment complete!
Second period... That's Morals class!
-I feel so sorry for him! -I feel so sorry for him!
That was great!
You should've become a violinist, not a craftsman here at our shop!
I like fixing them better.
You do?
To my ears, you play better than most pros!
Only because of this.
Yeah, that's a Gagliano.
This was made 300 years ago, wasn't it?
And it wasn't just locked away someplace, but lovingly used
and kept in good repair, handed down over the years.
I think that's a really amazing thing.
Yeah. If you think about it like that, it is amazing.
How come he's teaching you?
We take a living thing and mend it
so it can be passed down for another 300 years.
It's like the best job in the world.
Even if I die, part of me will live on.
Bravo! Well said! You understand deep down what it is to be a true craftsman!
Unlike my fool of a daughter who chose to be a detective!
As my only son, you're my pride!
Um, I'm your son, Dad.
You're dead to me!
Market Maker, a mysterious group that orchestrates crimes and even wars.
Under the orders of the royal family,
they carry out secret activities, assassinations, sabotage and infiltration.
No individuals, just a collective name.
Its members' right hands are marked with a skull, although no one's seen it.
It's a mysterious organization that's gone largely unnoticed in history.
Is this for real, Kaela?
Hey, wait a minute...
you better not have asked me over here just to show me this lame, bogus article.
Let's go to the crime scene, Bran.
There's little trace evidence.
And over there?
Mostly wiped down.
-Where's the Chief? -He went upstairs a minute ago.
Okay.
What are you doing?
You can't let a civilian into a crime scene!
No, ma'am. This is-- Er, sir?
Hey. You're doing that on purpose, aren't you?
Hey.
Finally back to your old self, I see!
The murdered assemblyman was always involved in a scandal.
He was all over the news recently because of illegal donations from corporations.
That must be why he was targeted.
The arrogant misguided vigilante scumbag pal again, huh?
Who would do such a thing?
He didn't have to kill the man's family, too!
It's "arrogant" now?
It won't stick cause you keep changing it.
-It was different? -You can't tell?
What's the matter? Are you feeling sick or something?
This case doesn't involve Killer B.
What are you basing that on? His usual mark is right there.
Keith, what makes you think it wasn't him?
It's sloppy.
-Can you explain it to us in simple terms? -The angles aren't naive.
What is he talking about?
Genie-isms. Basically, I have no idea.
Eric, come here a minute. There's something you should see.
Don't get any closer.
Keith, could this be...
Yeah.
This is troublesome.
That it is.
The body in there is definitely dead as the result of poison gas.
Plus, I'm seeing symptoms of both nerve gas and a blistering agent.
The killer must've created a gas that combines the properties of each.
It's not as fast-acting as nerve gas, but not as slow as a blistering agent.
Whoever made that stuff is really twisted.
It's clear the killer wants his victims to suffer horribly before he kills them.
So, what's the countermeasure?
Simply put, there isn't one.
If this were an existing gas, there would be some way to counteract it,
but this is something new, with refinements added.
I've asked the Army Institute of Medicine for assistance,
but there's no telling when we'll come up with an effective counteragent.
In any case, I can't make it here.
It will be better than nothing, but all I can do is prepare a preventative.
-Will it work? -No idea.
Come on.
How can I know if something will work if I haven't made it yet?
Or would you rather hear the odds?
Not today. If you told me the odds, I'd probably lose all hope.
Personally, I think it's a miracle that it's not zero.
Spoken like a doctor, same as always.
If you don't like it,
tell Eric to catch the criminal before he can use the gas.
Roger that, Doctor.
Genie.
Are you still searching?
It's been seven years.
Have you learned anything yet?
I still don't know.
Then why?
But I have found a clue that will lead me to the killer.
This is an invitation
to a charity party sent by the mayor to the murdered assemblyman.
A warning he's going to hit the place, huh?
Any chance it's a bluff?
When we examined the box left beside the corpse,
albeit a small amount,
we detected real poison gas in the container inside.
According to the Royal Institute of Forensic Medicine's report,
it's something new, and it's highly lethal.
If they release something like that at a party...
It'll affect the entire region.
Depending on weather conditions, we're looking at millions of deaths.
Where did the perp get his hands on such a nasty gas, anyway?
It's not like you can just buy it anywhere.
The victim found in the attic is Ian Reyes. Age, 42. Male.
He was senior researcher at Premio Farmacia.
However, he's been missing for six months. His family even filed a report.
So this guy definitely made the gas.
We don't know if it was voluntary or not, though.
He was eliminated after he was no longer useful?
Jonathan, look into Ian Reyes and his associates.
Roger that.
Kaela, contact the relevant ministries and research agencies.
Find out if materials or equipment used to make poison gas
-have been reported stolen or missing. -Yes, sir.
Mario and the rest, go to tonight's venue.
Check out suspicious people or objects. Put together a plan to provide security.
Also, to avoid unnecessary panic,
we've been told to keep word of the gas from the public.
I'm not sure if it's even possible to cover a building this big.
Um, what if this doesn't work?
There are no what-ifs. If there's no way, we make one.
That's our job.
And now, today's news.
The Royal Police have concluded that the murders yesterday morning
of Assemblyman Ed Kyle and his family in their home were the work of Killer B.
An investigation is underway to learn how the crimes are connected.
-Ow! -What happened?
I'm sorry, I nicked myself.
Are you okay?
Wow, it looks pretty deep!
But it doesn't hurt all that much.
There.
That's a lot of blood. Have Mother drive you to the hospital.
Honest, I'm fine.
Then go. You don't have to come back.
What? Why are you saying it so coldly?
I didn't mean anything by it!
-You're such an obnoxious old fart! -What?
-I'll be going. -So obnoxious!
Shut up!
-No eating, Lily. -I won't.
-It sounds like it. -It's physiological.
Don't use that excuse for everything!
Instinct, then.
I'm telling you to do something about those "instincts."
Over a mic, that doesn't sound like any noise a human would make!
It's a distraction!
My mic's in a bad location.
-What is that? -An oiran.
That's a classical Japanese outfit.
And if that outfit is authentic, it costs about the same as a Cayenne.
Whoa!
Though to be honest, I'd take a Hummer over a Cayenne.
Synchronization complete. We have eyes.
This is a program that tracks and analyzes the action curves
of people moving in a crowd.
If someone moves against the flow of traffic or moves abruptly,
it can flag them as suspicious and track them.
Can it make split-second decisions?
It can.
I'm giving you command of the venue. Do whatever it takes to stop this.
All personnel, report!
Area one, all clear on this end.
Area two, all clear here, too.
Ditto.
Keith, Boris, what's your status?
Building front entrance.
Aside from Keith Flick, nothing abnormal to report.
All search teams,
what's your status?
Area 15, all clear.
Area 16, no sign of anything here yet, either.
Area 20, all clear.
Area 22, all clear.
Area 24, no sign of any suspicious people or packages.
Area 27, all clear.
Understood. Continue your search.
Don't overlook anything.
The gas ought to be near the HVAC system.
How perceptive of you.
Excuse me.
Suspicious person detected!
Venue area 12!
Male, blond hair! The slender waiter! Heading towards the mayor!
Suspect apprehended!
-Are you all right? -Y-Yes.
This man is unharmed, too.
Coming with as crude a weapon as a knife, huh?
Weren't you going to use "it"?
I was worried sick you weren't going to come.
But now we can begin fifth period exactly as planned!
How stupid are you? It's all over. There never was any gas, was there?
Fifth period will prove it when it begins in a minute!
I'll make it a fun after-school activity!
Blue!
Drop the birdcage!
It's about damn time!
The wagtails are flying.
HQ! Come in!
This is the front entrance! HQ!
It's no use, it won't open.
No luck over here, either!
This one won't open, either.
Mario, every way in and out has been sealed off.
We're completely locked in.
What's your game?
We have control of the hotel's systems!
You can't get out of here!
-Kaela? -He's right.
I can't access the building's systems!
I'm being repelled!
The wagtails have all been caught!
We've rigged this building with poison gas!
Enough to kill not only everyone here, but everyone in the whole city!
The instant the clock strikes 9:00, your lives will end!
If you want me to disable it, someone here will have to...
kill the mayor standing right there!
Do that, and the device will stop.
If you don't believe me, fine.
Come 9:00, you'll know for sure.
And then, everyone will end up like this!
No fair, let me be part... of the plan.
Let me...
Everyone, please remain calm!
No pushing, I said!
Hey, who just felt me up? You're under arrest!
You'll die, too!
Kill the mayor yourself, then!
Do that and it will save everyone!
You're a nutjob.
Listen, everyone here will die, me included! An epic tragedy!
Tonight will be spoken of with terror for all time!
But the names of you victims will crumble into dust and fade away into oblivion!
In other words, the only name future generations will remember
will be mine, the attacker!
Only mine!
Why, you...
Before long, my name will race around the wilderness that is information
and become a legend!
How's this sound as the headline?
"A Young Boy's Beautiful Despair"?
You psycho freak.
Does that make you angry, Mr. Nameless Detective?
All for a pathetic notion like that?
That pathetic notion is going to beat you! I feel sorry for you! Who are you?
I'll make sure everyone remembers. Your stupid face and name!
As a dumbass criminal who was a failure!
Kaela!
I was listening! I'm pissed, too, so be quiet for a bit!
Cocky punks piss me off worse than cockroaches!
Punks who do nothing but whine about society piss me off!
-Besides-- -Kaela.
I said shut up!
Fine, whatever.
Sounds like you guys made our big sister angry.
Don't come crying to me.
This is more complex than I thought. They're not so dumb after all?
But that doesn't mean they're smart.
So you came after all.
Bull's-eye, and right on the money.
I wasn't expecting you to swallow that cheap bait so easily.
Maybe that person is amazing after all.
Right, you don't know who I mean by "that person," do you?
Are you curious? You're curious, aren't you?
But I won't tell you just yet.
I would take you to them if you agreed to come willingly,
but that's not what you want, is it?
Oh, I'm so scared!
Are you planning to use that to destroy me like you did Quinn?
Quinn died,
but I don't think I will.
I'm kinda fast. Just a little bit.
What we need is you.
But not your life.
Do you understand what this means?
Who are you?

Who are you?
"One of the voices Always angelic
- It is about me, - Sharply expresses itself:
Those thousand questions Spreading their roots
Bring in the end, Only drunkenness and madness;
-Understand this trick. So gay, so easy: -Is she with you?
It is only wave, only flower, And that is your family!
And then a voice - How angelic it is! -"
Hey, Eric, is there any activity in the--
Wh-What?
Hey, quit shoving! Ow!
What are you--
G-Genie, did you ever get your license renewed?
Hey, where are you going?
There's no other way.
Hey, what are you saying? We can't do that!
Then, what should we do?
Everyone, please remain calm!
At this time, the Royal Police's hazardous material disposal team
is dealing with the situation, so please be patient a while longer!
That's all you keep saying!
Tell us what's going on!
What do we do?
Even if you ask, there's not much we can do in this situation.
Officers, everything will be okay, right?
Ugly. This is so ugly.
Death is drawing closer, and this is how they act?
I'm not like you people.
I'm special!
I will go down in history as the very embodiment of terror!
I embrace my death with dignity and pride!
No finesse.
His code is slapped together.
Technical skill, one.
Specs are plagiarized.
A lazy imitation.
Originality, zero.
Offensive and defensive capability, both one. Grade, D.
A third rate hack of a malware writer, huh? How unimpressive.
Which means...
2,700 seconds remaining.
I could beat him three times over with time to spare.
"It is about me, Sharply expresses itself:
And sings at this moment Like a sister to breath:
With a German tone, But ardent and full:
The world is vicious; If that surprises you!"
The king has landed.
I'll have my audience at his father's grave.
Hey, this is bad!
No way! Crap!
Understood. The black swan has taken flight as planned, then.
In that case, I'll have the clowns make their exit.
Hey! If this keeps up, I'm gonna get skunked!
Can I wrap this up already?
Whoever this is, he's the real deal!
We have to get ready to run! Are you listening?
If you can't detect danger, you've deteriorated as a living creature.
Bye-bye.
It's stopped.
The counterattack attempts have stopped.
Is he giving up now that he's losing?
No, this guy doesn't pay that much attention to detail.
Maybe it's a trap to lure us into the building,
or maybe a tactic to confuse us and slow us down,
or maybe they didn't plan for this situation.
So it's sink or swim time.
Either way, we have no options and no way out.
We'll take the bait and deal with it.
Jean, connect me to the hazmat team.
On it.
-It's open! -We're saved!
-They're coming out! -Call it in!
Eric, it's from Kaela.
Put her on speaker.
-Eric? -Kaela, it's Eric. You're on speaker.
I'm with Jean, Abbot, and Brody.
If that's okay, go ahead.
I have the building's systems back online.
Well done. Now please get back to locating the poison--
Already on it. But something's bugging me.
What is it?
While I was attacking the system,
there were repeated defensive attempts from the criminals.
But then they suddenly stopped.
Stopped?
Is it a trap?
It's the gas!
Run!
Mario! Sit-rep!
Talk to me! Anybody!
Brandon! Lily!
Somebody respond!
How could this happen?
Damn it.
Kaela!
If you manipulate the HVAC system and direct the flow of air,
the gas will be diverted to empty parts of the building! Do it!
That risks depriving any airtight rooms of oxygen.
-If anyone's in one, they'll-- -The gas is what's important!
I'll take responsibility! There's no time!
Hurry!
Roger that.
Zeppole di ...seppe.
Boris! Where are you? Is Keith with you?
He is! We're northbound on route 8!
Route 8? What are you doing out there?
I don't know! Ask Keith!
Keith, we have an emergency! Get back here right away!
The gas was released in the tower!
Wh-What did you say?
We're currently unable to raise any of our people inside!
-Genie, head back! -There's nothing to worry about.
Sorry, Eric. You handle it.
What are you saying, you idiot? Lily and the others are--
If it's been released...
If it's been released, the gas is fake.
A dispersal meant to cause chaos.
A simple ploy to buy time. Probably to cover their escape.
Based on what?
Didn't you see it? The criminal is a myopic thinker.
An immature narcissist.
Basically, a dumb, self-absorbed kid, obsessed with superficial aesthetics.
That's a mean way to put it.
In a narcissist's autobiography, his own death is a crucial component.
Writhing in pain, slowly dying as his skin blisters from a modified corrosive gas...
You think they would be okay with that?
Go though all the old profiles again. That doesn't happen.
You might be right, but what you're saying is just theory.
What's a fact is we can't raise anyone inside.
It's a knockout gas, then. Listen, Eric.
This incident and the IFV theft have the same structure:
Under cover of all the chaos,
a sophisticated mind is working towards some other objective.
In other words,
a group is using crimes of opportunity to carry out their own planned crimes.
They might even be deliberately manipulating crimes
that appear to be random occurrences.
A cycle of madness is about to break out.
The answer won't be found on the surface. It's always behind the scenes.
You're late.
Kamui got hung up making his stupid trash.
They're ecstatic.
They were able to end their pathetic lives as part of one of my works.
Meaning they were pathetic to the very end, huh?
Kamui, you haven't forgotten our objective, I trust?
Of course not. That was just part of a side project.
We accomplished the objective just fine.
And yet he isn't here with us.
You're intentionally misinterpreting my orders.
That's a bad habit.
Yeah, yeah.
Minatsuki, do we really have to bring the black-winged king back with us?
Yes, because those are our orders.
Does he have to be alive?
He only needs to be alive.
Welcome to Divine Days.
For a few days every October, Lake Lenan becomes a gateway to the kingdom of God.
Souls dance with joy in the darkness.
Don't you think it's pretty? Countless lights in the darkness...
I love this place.
One little light can be enough to keep you from fearing the dark or losing your way.
Do you get what I'm trying to say?
Light represents hope.
I don't want to hear your nonsense.
Where is she?
If you don't answer me, I'll kill you!
You're so easy to figure out.
Is she your light?
Your memories of her are vague, aren't they?
Oh, I know. You don't even know very much about yourself.
That's why you're shouting so desperately. I can hear it.
"I'm here! I'm right here!
I'm alive!
Somebody find me!"
Unfortunately, all that's here are the spirits of the dead and us.
Out of all of us, I'm the only one who spent time with you, however briefly.
There was even a time when I lived for you.
We even watched these lights together.
That's why I lured you here. To make you remember.
Oh, dear. My fragile hopes have been dashed.
I've been thinking. About who it was who locked away your memories.
And I finally figured it out.
Where is she?
The one who locked away your memories was none other than...
you yourself.
You wanted to forget it all, I bet.
Everything that happened that day.
All of it.
But...
I won't let you forget about me.
I'll never forgive you for not choosing me!
-Where are we? -Like I know!
So, how about filling me in?
What are we chasing after?
I'm not sure.
It's something I need to chase down.
So, what is that?
I wish I knew, too.
Cut off my left leg. It'll be useful to you someday.
Touch Canopus.
If you do that...
Canopus?
Do you know your name?
Zeppole... di San Giuseppe.
Do you know where you are?
Where...
Please don't sit up so quickly!
Are you queasy, or experiencing any discomfort?
How?
I saw gas flood into the room, and...
They say it was just knockout gas.
They sure got us this time.
So our perp was bluffing all along?
Well, that doesn't seem to be the case, either.
What do you mean?
They did find real gas. They just didn't use it.
But, well...
The way they found it wasn't normal.
Looks like we just missed them.
They found the remains of the criminals, other than their skins.
Where?
Um, maybe you'd be better off not knowing.
If you knew, you wouldn't be able to eat for a while.
I've been sensing something for a while now.
Don't these cases lately seem strange to you?
I mean, none of these incidents have been resolved.
I feel like something is going on in this city.
You get all serious for once, and it's about that?
I think your gut is right.
It is, isn't it?
Though with me, my "gut" is usually misleading.
You're right, though. Something's going on.
If we know that, then why don't we--
"I shall faithfully uphold the constitution of the Kingdom of Cremona,
comply with our king's orders, prioritize my duties as a law officer,
and demand that they be obeyed."
"With favor towards none, with fear towards none,
with hatred towards none, obeying the dictates of my conscience,
to safeguard the kingdom, as well as the freedom and rights of her citizens,
I solemnly swear to carry out my duties as an officer of the law!"
The day we took that oath, we became cops. You and me.
We just need to solve cases as they come in, one at a time.
More like, that's all we can do.
But as those wins add up, small as they are,
it will eventually grow into a clue that points us to something.
That's what I believe.
That said, I have no idea in hell what that "something" is right now, though.
I guess not.
So, thinking about all that other stuff is pointless.
Right?
Understood!
I'll stop thinking!
No! He didn't mean entirely!

-On the right, a new First. -Keith!
People of the black bones,
-gather ye together at the promised land. -Keith! Keith!
Keith Flick.
Keith.
Genie, no!
-Keith. -Don't look!
-Keith. -Genie!
He mutilated just her face.
Like the cycle of death and rebirth, it will repeat itself, continuing forever.
Keith.
I love you, Keith.
I'll reconstruct it.
Falling. Shaking. Falling.
It'll be just like before. Just like how she used to be.
I'll put everything I have into it.
A new First.
Another Fourth.
I guess I should go to the library.
It's connected properly.
Koku!
Yo!
-The Royal Library? -Yes.
What for?
To research something.
Research something? Why not just do a web search?
I don't have anything like a computer or cell phone.
Oh yeah, I've never seen you use either.
-Well, I don't need them. -Wow, really? I'd die without mine.
-I won't. -But they're so convenient!
I'm not interested in convenience.
You are strange, after all.
I see. You have a cute face, but you're still single
-because you're nit-picky-- -Are you off today, Lily?
I'm off duty, so close enough.
Where are you going?
Running an errand.
So, Koku, what's your type?
The cultured type? Older girls?
How about I introduce you to my friends?
Up there. Isn't that the turn?
Whoops!
This is expired.
Right here. It expired on the seventh of last month.
We can renew it right away. If you have ID.
This is expired, too.
Next person in line, please!
Do you know what "Canopus" is?
A star.
It's not visible at this latitude, but a little south, it's just above the horizon.
I asked thinking you wouldn't know.
Then you've underestimated me.
Do you know a lot about the stars?
Not at all. My sweetie in high school was totally into that stuff.
There's that museum next door to the cathedral, right?
He droned on and on in the planetarium there even though I'd never asked.
He put me half to sleep.
For some reason, I kind of remember the star names.
Good times, good times!
This "sweetie" was a boy, right?
You really do underestimate me, don't you?
This will be acceptable.
Fill out the renewal form at window three, down the hall to the right, and come back.
-You said you could do it right away! -They can, at window three.
Okay, next in line!
Touch Canopus.
-Are you all right, son? -Damn it.
Are you all right, son?
Hey there!
What's wrong with your leg?
-Sorry to intrude! -Go away.
-Buns! -What are you, deaf?
I said, go away.
You don't like these?
I also have a single Zeppole di San Giuseppe!
-Have you ever had one? -No, I haven't. So go away.
I think you can probably tell,
I have no intention of backing down.
I even bought buns.
What a day.
Can I help with anything?
"Genie" means "Genius," right? Who gave you that nickname?
Boris?
I don't know.
So, about Killer B.
Killer B, and his victims, who are the perpetrators in these cases,
are becoming more complicated as they're becoming more brutal.
They all end with your standard "serial killer rampage and self-destruction."
And the B mark left at the scenes are more assertive than in the past.
Also, did you know that over the past few years,
gold thefts have overlapped with visually flashy crimes?
They're opportunistic crimes, and Foreign Affairs Section Two is overseeing them.
Lately, Killer B-related crimes are happening without any fanfare.
That's troubling, too, isn't it?
Is B really B?
It's as if there's some other meaning, and he's asking someone else what that is.
And then, originally--
Here.
Um... This is for me?
If you're not eating, leave.
Thanks for the food.
-So eat. Then leave. -I said I'm not leaving.
Man, you're one stubborn old dude.
Lily?
Everything's all jumbled up in my head now.
Coffee?
I'd love some! What kind?
My blend.
Anyway, it's all tangled together.
It's a bad omen. I can't shake that feeling for some reason.
I decided not to think, cause everyone told me not to,
but I started thinking anyway.
And once I did, everything got all jumbled up inside my head.
So, after agonizing over all this stuff all night,
I decided to come here.
That doesn't strike me as a smart move.
"Smart doesn't mean right. Sometimes being foolish is the right answer."
That's one of your lines, isn't it?
Boris, huh? He also gave you my address?
He told me all sorts of things about you.
He's an old-timer, so he rambles on without me asking.
But coming here today was my own idea.
Tell Boris that I said not to put dumb ideas into your head.
-It's a pain. -I thought you could untangle them.
I thought that only you could untangle the knots in my head.
That's why I came. Keith Flick.
Only you, the one Boris calls Genie.
Why's it doing that? What's going on?
So, let's say the culprit in these incidents is this pastry.
He's one tasty-looking criminal.
This red bean bun is the perp.
The Zeppole is Killer B.
We know there's no interaction between these two.
So, there's a gap in these cases.
I figure there's something in this gap that links the two cases together.
Ta-da!
It looks like the red bean bun, but it's a coffee bun.
And we also tear the red bean bun in half and...
-It only makes sense this way. -I've lost my appetite.
I know, right? It's all a jumble. Chaos!
And?
Don't you see it?
-This is the cases' structure! -It's a mess, you mean?
No!
Who can understand this?
The chaos is inside your head!
Straighten it out and then speak, nitwit.
I can't, that's why I came here!
Then you should've said that first.
And apologize to these buns and their bakers.
Playing with food...
Idiots shouldn't make pointless presentations.
I'm not--
My point is, there's a third player out there no one knows about.
It's disguised as something else.
So, although it's in plain sight, no one knows.
A balance is being maintained,
but when its disguise fails, it'll take action,
expand with the speed of a subatomic particle
and swallow up the whole country.
And then a cycle of one incident after another will begin,
and before we know it,
we'll be reduced to nothing more than helpless onlookers.
I know that it sounds stupid, like some conspiracy theory,
but I can't find anything that disproves it.
While I was thinking about it all, my head got all jumbled up.
To be perfectly honest, I'm scared now.
Now you listen and listen close, you dumb kid.
Keep your nose out of this from now on.
-Why should I do that? -For your own good.
What do you mean by that?
It means this isn't something some idiot should get involved in out of curiosity.
If you understand, leave.
Okay, I'll be frank too.
Not a chance in hell!
You little--
Okay, then.
Lily!
Huh?
Boris?
You two...
What kind of kinky stuff are you up to?
Kaela, what do you want for dinner?
Huh?
Keith slipped and fell, then I did when I tried to help him.
That's all.
Sorry. I just assumed...
Why are you here?
Boris!
Boris sent this.
"Everybody come to Keith's place, we're gonna do something."
We're having a party, right? Mario's buying beer on his way over.
I-I made a little mistake!
I-I have no idea how to use these things!
You hit "group send," didn't you?
By the way, why is your door broken?
-How is it? -It's very high purity.
It seems fine. Well done.
Where are the others?
They got assignments for their cover jobs. They're out.
From Regulus?
Has his mood improved?
Oh, he's rather angry.
Because the retrieval of our quarry is so far behind schedule.
He's tougher than expected. He's too powerful to take on alone.
Even someone as skilled as Izanami was killed.
We should rethink our capture method.
Shall I go to Regulus and tell him that's your considered opinion?
No.
This turned into an actual drinking party.
Now, now. Having a little fun will do you some good.
This is all because of you and your big mouth.
Take responsibility.
You mean about Lily? She's an interesting one, don't you think?
I'm talking about your loose lips.
We've known each other for five years now,
and I still can't tell if she's smart or a fool.
A fool, obviously.
She gets things, even when she doesn't.
She's a strange girl, for sure.
A wiseass who's totally direct.
She's got big brown eyes,
is a lefty, and is a dainty little thing.
Doesn't she remind you of her a little?
Whew, it's freezing out here! I gotta take a leak!
-Boris! -You've had enough, Kaela!
-Don't be such an old man! -I'm not an old man!
She's nothing like her.
Need a hand?
N-No, I'm good.
I was just leaving.
Okay...
-Bran? -Good night!
Mind the fort!
Brandon?
Oops! I forgot all about him!
Hello?
Where are you right now?
At Keith's place. Everybody's here.
Keith's?
Eric already left. Are you coming?
So did Jean! That party pooper!
-If you're coming, grab some beer! -And snacks!
Don't forget snacks!
I'll be right there.
What a weird kid.
Come on, hurry up, hurry up.
-Koku? Koku? -Are you okay?
You sure are sentimental.
-I hope we meet again! -We will!
It's all for you.
Touch Canopus.
Even if I'm called a demon because of it,
I'll do whatever it takes.
I'll find you.

Damn it, one of our own got attacked! They expect us to sit on our asses?
This is ridiculous!
Even so, orders are orders.
I don't agree, either, but what can we do?
Hey, what's the matter?
-We just got orders to stand by. -From Eric?
Apparently, the security footage of the attack was erased.
So someone's on the inside?
We've been instructed not to act too boldly right now.
-Most likely-- -What, they don't trust us?
Calm down. It's the opposite.
It's as Boris says. Right now, it's wise to stay quiet.
Boris!
These were outside the station house.
How did it go?
We still have to be cautious, but he seems to be out of danger.
There shouldn't be any permanent damage.
Any defensive wounds?
I didn't see any.
The natural assumption would be
someone standing next to him suddenly attacked him.
Of course, I'm no expert, so that's entirely speculation.
You're with the RIS, then?
I hate to trouble you with formalities, but can you sign here?
Oh. Sure.
Excuse me, Mr. Flick?
Before he lost consciousness, he begged me to do something.
He insisted that I give this to one Keith Flick.
Any risk of permanent damage?
Essentially zero, they said.
His wound might ache on cold days, that sort of thing.
The doctor said it was a miracle.
Understood. I'll send some people over to stand guard.
Once they arrive, the rest of you come back to work on the case.
But we...
I'll send Brody and Takeda. That's better than you and Keith, right?
Okay, that's a relief.
-Lily. -Yes?
Keep Bran's condition under wraps.
He might be attacked again.
For now, we can't trust anyone outside the RIS.
Yes, sir.
How's that?
It's better than before! There's no buzz, and it's sustaining again!
What was causing it?
It wasn't just one thing. Take a look right here.
See? Right here.
A youngster wouldn't understand.
-You're a true craftsman! -Aren't I? Keep up the praise!
He's here!
-Touch Canopus. -Look, that's him!
Canopus.
Keith!
You've been acting weird ever since the hospital!
Why'd you stop all of a sudden?
I need to stop at that market.
What?
Hang on, you're shopping?
-I need to use their bathroom. -Again?
Number two.
You're definitely lying.
Come in with me, then.
I can't-- Hey! Come back here!
Stupid Genie!
This is gonna be tough.
Yeah?
Find anything?
All I can tell is that it's a mess, both inside and out.
And given what's on it, I can't request support.
This will take time.
I see.
Call me if you find anything.
Oh, hang on, Eric.
Don't worry. He's out of danger.
Thank goodness.
Kaela.
"Keep it to myself," right?
Please do.
Roger that.
Okay, Brandy,
what did you find?
Yeah?
Kaela, it's me. Switch us over to a secure line, okay?
Sure, one second.
Okay, go.
Are you busy?
-This had better be important-- -Whenever you're free.
Send the following names to my cell.
It's sent, Keith.
Got it. Thanks.
-What do you need those for? -I don't know yet.
That'll be a trillion yen.
For what?
Look, sir, I'm not running a charity here. Bye now.
Damn it, I'm too busy for this.
I don't believe you only used the bathroom.
You're reading too much into it.
Shut up! Shut your hole! This stinks!
Stinks, stinks, stinks! And not just your poop!
It stinks, stinks, stinks!
That incontinent old fart's always trying to leave me out of the loop.
What? What?
Don't move. Put your hands up.
-What are you doing? -Hands up!
Hand over your cell phone.
Yes, sir. Understood.
I'll deal with it at once.
What is it?
Apparently, he's still alive.
He'll be dead soon enough, right?
I can take care of it.
We can't afford to leave any trace behind. Have our man inside kill him.
But he already botched the job once! Is it smart to leave it to him?
After all, he's just an ordinary human.
Observe, but no more.
If it looks like he'll fail again, you may eliminate him.
There are many who can replace him.
Understood.
Hey, Minatsuki. I'm already out of gold ampules.
Gimme!
I hope you're not wasting them.
Hey, who do you think you're talking to, you useless bitch?
Kamui.
Use them more sparingly.
The time between Kamui's ampule doses is getting shorter.
Yuna.
I didn't do anything.
I know that.
Just in case things don't work out, delete that program.
Huh? Are you sure? It'll make things harder.
I'll think of something else.
That's an order. Yuna, do it right away.
All right.
Laica.
Keep an eye on Kamui.
I've got a pretty good idea now of why somebody wanted Bran dead.
Isn't that--
It's Bran's. It had been dumped outside, apparently.
I was asked to try to reconstruct the data on it.
I did, but only fragments.
And this is the result.
What do you want for lunch?
-Who's that? -How about sushi?
Hey, good idea!
Is this our precinct?
Yep. Those two people are both in Security Division.
-Oh, you're right! -And now...
The way it's hidden is really clever.
It's a mystery how Bran managed to discover it.
What's certain is that without help from someone inside the precinct,
operating this program would be difficult.
Wait, are you saying-- These are tapped video feeds?
Bingo. It can jack into personal terminals issued to station personnel at will,
as well as every camera and audio source inside the station house.
Even if they're turned off.
Its range seems to be limited, though.
No way.
Creepy, huh?
I've heard rumors that programs like this existed.
In my crowd, it's joked about as an urban legend.
-But that's the only thing it could be. -Can you tell who put it there?
It's unlikely we'll figure that out from this.
Kaela. Let's go to Keith with this.
Keith? That reminds me, he called me a moment ago.
He asked me to send him a list of everyone involved with the RIS the last five years.
A personnel list?
What?
Damn it. It's gone.
They got the drop on us. Let's go.
Go where?
To find Keith.
I'm almost certain he's onto something.
Things are already this bad, and you just got back.
Will your man pull through?
This is even worse than last time.
Back in college, I often thought about something.
I wondered if I could develop a medicine to cure your bad attitude.
I doubt it. For starters, human beings weren't designed by humans.
Up here in particular isn't designed to be tampered with by people.
I'll file a complaint with the lead designer, then.
Who do I talk to?
I guess that would be God.
Whenever I talk to you, I get the worst craving for a cigarette.
Gil, have you ever read Moby Dick?
That book by Melville? You lent me a copy, remember?
I read it.
In his last moments, I wonder what was going through Ahab's mind
as he was going down with Moby Dick.
Genie?
It's no big deal. Sorry, forget I said anything.
Well, I'm off to catch our criminal.
Damn.
This ain't someplace some big-band wannabe should be wandering around.
How about you hand over your wallet and get lost.
Shut up.
Hey, now!
Move.
You got a death wish, pal?
Hey, what happened in here?
Hands in the air and don't move!
Hey! Are you deaf?
I'll leave you to clean up.
Where did...
Just stepped out.
Hey, have you seen Keith?
-This again? -What again?
He came in a while ago. But then he turned around and left again.
Oh.
Lily.
Since you're here, would you mind making a delivery to Takeda and Brody?
They asked me, but I forgot.
Isn't that my knife?
You stole it when you came over for drinks.
I got this from Brandon. It was meant for me, for some reason.
It's a vintage French model, hacked, with its knob removed.
The hands read 10:08.
The GMT bezel shows 18.
GMT. Greenwich Mean Time. English Standard Time.
Ten, eight, 18.
Converting the hands into letters starting from the top, we get...
And French.
It's a simple code.
The question is, why would Brandon
resort to something so convoluted when his life was in danger?
He couldn't leave a message there.
Because his attacker was able to return to the scene and remove any evidence.
So, he started thinking.
As his consciousness was fading, fearing he was going to die,
he frantically thought of how to get me a message.
Five people at the precinct have these initials.
However, only one is called by the French pronunciation.
As a sign of trust and respect from his fellow detectives.
I didn't want to believe it, "Jean Henri Richard."
It's you, right?
Jean.
Keith.
How long have you known?
I first suspected you eight years ago. Right after that case.
That's when I found the multi-camera program.
I'm surprised. You were pretending to be my friend all that time?
Look who's talking.
Keith Flick.
I will never forgive you.
I'll do it again and again.
Jean?
The people you care about will die around you one by one.
Just like back then,
I'm going to take away those closest to you again.
I'll take them from you, completely.
Will you be able to keep them safe this time? I'm not so sure.
Can you?
You will be the last to go.
Watch with those hateful eyes
as everything falls to ruin around you.
Keith Flick!
Don't! Jean, put that down!
Those you love most will be covered in crimson.
Like the cycle of death and rebirth, it will repeat itself, continuing forever.
An indelible code will be etched into you.
I was murdered by you.
I'll see you in hell.
Jean!
Jean.
Jean!
Somebody! Anybody! Come here, hurry!
I have a code seven! Officer stabbed and badly injured at Royal Hospital!
Attacker at large!
-Likely still in the area! -Keith.
-Requesting immediate dispatch! -Run.
Jean!
-Don't die, Jean! Hang on! -Keith.
Hey, look at me!
Jean.
Are you Canopus?
Hey.
We meet at last,
Killer B.
Or rather, 13.

If you have something to say, why don't you come out and say it?
No, I don't.
I was just wondering if you could actually go through with it.
Would you care to find out right now?
Scary!
Where are your wings? Are they tucked away inside your body?
I was told to touch Canopus.
So, I made contact with you.
Touch what? Told by who?
Canopus. That's what we call old people who show us the way.
What a coincidence. I've been looking for a murderous little punk myself.
Where is Yuna?
Yuna?
Is Yuna the "IIII" you've spent your life apart from...
my good number 13?
So, has she noticed the marks you've been leaving for her?
From the looks of it, it seems like she hasn't answered yet.
And after all your effort with those murders...
Your girlfriend is pretty cold.
The only people I kill are those who deserve to die.
How upstanding of you.
Here. Want one?
I guess you never had any grownups around
to tell you not to be so full of yourself.
What do you know?
Nothing, I guess.
But I do know what that mark of yours means.
That's not a "B,"
that's a 13 in Arabic numerals
and the Roman numeral four only used on clocks, right?
Two numbers overlapping.
The 13 is you, and she is the IIII, right?
It's probably a code only the two of you would recognize,
and Killer B has kept killing murderers as a way to spread it.
It was all to let this girl you can't find know that you're alive.
Every time you killed someone, it was like you were shouting.
"I'm right here!"
Where is Yuna?
Goodness, kids these days are so greedy, with no concept of give and take.
Anyway, you must've brought me here because you had something to ask.
Well, I have questions for you, too.
I'm not interested in playing word games with you.
If you know, tell me where Yuna--
Tomorrow at 10:00.
You know where Heian-ji is?
It's an Oriental-style Buddhist temple. In Ward Eight.
I'll tell you everything then.
Hey! Tell me here!
There's something I need to show you.
I'll bring it tomorrow. Don't be late.
What is this place?
Archives Division.
Oops.
-There's so much here. -Where is it, where is it?
Keith worked here?
Yeah. For eight years.
All by himself.
What was the reason?
Why was he sent here?
During the trial, he abducted the murderer Dead Kyle from the hospital he was in
and tortured him without authorization.
He did what?
How did it go?
They've begun the paperwork for an arrest warrant.
We'll be sent out after Keith, too.
Your nail.
Where is Lily?
In the building.
It's a shame about Jean.
Yes.
You're here about Keith Flick, right?
Is he a suspect?
For the time being.
Then, you're here for me?
Yes. I heard from Boris about how you and Keith are old friends.
I've known him since boarding school.
We can't shake each other.
Doctor, do you also think Keith did this?
Do you?
I don't think he did it.
I see.
Um, please tell me everything you can about--
The Keith Flick I know is an exceedingly dull man.
Since he can predict what lies ahead, he can't really act in the moment.
Um, so what you're saying is, this incident doesn't seem premeditated.
Therefore, Keith couldn't have done it. Is that what you meant?
I don't know the particulars,
but if he's under suspicion, he probably didn't do it.
He couldn't do anything so careless.
You don't mean "wouldn't"?
No, I mean couldn't.
Interesting.
Just like always.
Yes?
For as long as I've known him, good hearts have always been drawn to him.
In spite of his being so unpleasant. It's the strangest thing.
You're one such person, I see.
U-Um...
That will do for now. Thank you for your time!
You know...
maybe you really do resemble her.
Excuse me?
Hey!
So carefree, even though you're a wanted criminal.
Being on the run leaves you with a lot of down time.
Did you bring it?
Can't you see? It's on my back.
Sorry. Thanks as always.
Did Jean really kill himself?
-His memories? -They'd been altered.
Boy, this runs deep.
Don't do anything crazy. I won't be able to help you out forever.
Eric already suspects that I'm up to something.
Don't worry about it. It'll probably end.
And soon.
Probably, anyway.
I'll capture Lohengrin, trust me.
Is there a problem?
You know there is. We didn't anticipate any of this.
That's precisely why. We didn't expect Lohengrin's abilities.
So, we'll counter the unexpected with the unexpected.
What if someone dies?
Just sit back and watch.
You came.
Your name.
You have a name, don't you?
Tell me what it is.
Koku.
-I'm Keith. -I know.
Of course you do.
Where do I start?
-Yuna's-- -Relax.
If you're alive, so is she.
You better not be guessing.
If I said "Jaula Blanca Institute," would you be more likely to believe me?
It all began at the Jetblack.
At the end of the 16th Century,
13 fossilized skeletons were discovered in the ruins at the top of the mountain.
The scientists of the day classified the bizarre winged skeletons
as the progenitors of humanity
and were fossils of gods that flourished in the ancient past.
So began the project to restore these gods.
The king and government realized they could exploit the project politically.
So, to refill the country's depleted coffers,
they solicited donations under the pretext of resurrecting these gods
and built a huge research facility.
Its name was the Jaula Blanca Royal Scientific Institute.
Top scientists and the cutting-edge technology of the day
were brought there in the name of resurrecting the gods.
However...
there were only corrupted researchers who had grown drunk on the huge donations
and days spent on trivialities.
Without a particular plan, they began an inbreeding program
which produced malformed, insane offspring they called the Promising Ones,
which they disposed of.
That so-called research was repeated again and again for several centuries.
When rumors began circulating that this unsuccessful research would be terminated,
one of the researchers went before the king and made a proposal.
"I will create an organization that will intentionally manipulate the balance
of fear and tranquility inside and outside the kingdom.
I will develop the human assets required to carry out the project at Jaula Blanca."
And so, the Promising Ones, who had been derided as failures,
were sent to the royal government to be special intelligence agents
that would create chaos and order.
Their work would go on to have a profound effect.
They're now known... as Market Maker.
Because of this, the institute survives
as a facility that develops weapons of carnage for their government patrons.
Ironically, though,
it was at this point that their research into the gods leapt forward.
Two lives were born that showed them the way to success.
But at that point, something happened.
Yuna?
Yuna?
Yuna! Yuna!
Yuna!
Yuna!
Yuna! Yuna!
Yuna!
All I remember is gunfire and a burnt smell.
How do you know about me?
It's written "Kurohane" (Black Wings), but it's read "Koku," huh?
That's just like him.
Have you heard of the Jetblack Epitaph?
It's at the top of Mt. Cremona.
With advances in genetic research and the deciphering of that inscription,
their research made a quantum leap forward.
It contained a record of the abilities and form of the gods' bones.
It was the arrival from Japan of three cellular biologists
that brought about the birth of you and your guardians.
One of those three...
was Dr. Kazama.
Full name, Heath Kazama Flick.
My father.
And...
the one who first managed to decode that inscription, at the age of 12,
was me.
How many have you killed with that hand you stole?
How much blood have you seen with that eye you stole?
How many crimes have you fled from on that leg you stole?
They're pretty amazing, all right.
Don't. Don't!
Don't kill her, Koku!
Stop it!
It can't be.
Yuna!
How dare you!
Your time of atonement is at hand.
It's me, Yuna.
You killed them!
Decide it together.
You killed all my classmates at Jaula Blanca! All of my friends!
Will you be killed by your most beloved?
I'll never forgive you!
Or will you kill your most beloved?
-You're wrong, Yuna. -Shut up!
Yuna!
It's time.
This ends it.
Yuna.
I found you.
When Canopus shines bright, to the right is a new First,
illegitimate spawn of the gods.
Wings of pure madness will bring low the ephemeral people,
and the howls of the dead will bring order to their brethren.
To the left, another Fourth.
A cycle of evil slaughter.
The moon of carnage traces out its eternal ellipse,
and the hour the ash-colored dragon beats its wings will come at last.
People of the black bones, gather ye together.
Koku?
Koku!
Where have you been? I've been waiting so long.

Koku!
Where have you been? I've been waiting so long.
Yuna.
Yuna!
Give her back!
You know what to do?
We just need to avoid his heart and head, right?
Yuna.
Are they ready?
Just give the word.
Give back Yuna!
Give her back!
You're so pathetic.
Haul them up.
Minatsuki!
Stop! Don't kill him.
Minatsuki, we need to withdraw.
If it's not treated immediately, it'll become irreversible.
Minatsuki! Hey! Are you listening to me?
Minatsuki! Minatsuki!
Canopus.
Koku!
Are you all right?
Whose fault is it that we lost?
Yeah, whose?
Weaklings like you don't belong here!
Who threw that?
Leave Yuna alone!
You see?
The instant Yuna starts crying, he comes running.
You're right!
So cool!
Come to my rescue, sir knight!
Kirisame and the other boys carried you in.
Be sure to thank them later.
They're always making fun of us.
Is that so?
I don't get it.
Everyone is so strong,
but all I have is my left eye, and I'm not supposed to use it.
What am I even doing here?
Koku.
Having superior physical abilities or special powers doesn't make you strong.
I've told you this before.
Grown-ups all say stuff like that. It's nothing but pretty words.
You have to be strong to protect people.
I suppose you might be right about that.
But then again, it might just be that you aren't.
Well, you'll probably understand one day.
But for now, it's important to ponder such things.
Thanks.
You helped me out earlier, remember?
Yeah... I did. And?
And?
-That's all? -That's all.
You could have said that at school!
You didn't have to drag me out here.
We'll be teased again if we're seen together at school, right?
Nobody teases me!
Tell me, why do you keep trying to help me?
Why? Can't you tell?
I don't know why, but when you feel sad, I feel something, too.
That's why.
You do it to protect me, you mean?
Is that weird?
Then I'll protect you, too.
Whenever you're feeling sad, I'll put a smile on your face.
I had a great idea.
Look at this.
All of us here have special numbers.
You're "four."
But not the normal "four."
You're a special four that's only for you.
One that's only used for time.
And I'm "13."
And if you combine them...
Let's use this as our special signal.
Next time you're being teased, draw this where I'll see it.
And then I'll come running and help you!
And when I draw it, you come and help me!
'Kay. But will you really come?
Of course!
And I'll come for sure, too!
Hold yours out, too.
Promise!
Yuna!
Yuna!
Koku?
Yuna!
Kirisame.
Take Koku to this place instead of the shelter.
No one else knows about it.
You'll be safe there.
Koku?
What are you doing here?
Go with Kirisame. Hurry.
But Yuna is--
I know. I'll do what I can for Yuna.
-So get moving. -But I--
Kirisame, keep Koku safe no matter what.
Koku, where are you? I'm scared!
Yuna!
Koku!
Who are you?
I'm Minatsuki.
Koku is my little brother.
Come with me.
It's not safe here anymore.
Koku's waiting for us.
He is?
Yuna!
Keep moving!
But Yuna might...
If anything happens, we have to go to the shelter.
I'm sure everybody's there!
Yuna will catch up, so come on!
'Kay.
Minatsuki! Izanami!
You're safe? Thank goodness!
Get to the shelter right away. The enemy's closing in, so--
So it was you people all along...
Market Maker.
You're...
Minatsuki.
You're the devil.
I will never become his spare parts.
So that rumor really was true, then?
Where's Koku?
Don't let him deceive you.
Minatsuki, he's--
Goodbye, Canopus.
Almost there!
-Is this it? -Yeah.
I'll hold them off here!
Lock yourself inside!
-But-- -Koku!
Listen, you're our king!
You mustn't die here!
Kirisame.
I'll be right behind you!
No!
Kirisame, come with me!
No more talk! Get moving!
Koku! Run!
I'll see you soon.
Just wait in there.
Yuna.
I'm sorry!
Koku?
Yuna?
Yuna!
Yuna!
Yuna!
-Yuna! -Koku?
Is that you, Koku?
Canopus!
Thank goodness you're safe.
You have to get away from here.
I can't. I can't do that!
I can't run and leave everyone else!
Koku.
You have a duty to survive.
You owe it to the others.
What is it?
Everything you need to know about yourself is on these pages.
As well as what you must do next.
Now, get going.
Koku!
You're able to resonate with Yuna.
Find her and protect her no matter what.
Keith.
That boy will find his way to you.
Guide him.
Koku.
Don't be afraid.
I'll protect him.
Be brave.
Assimilate them into yourself and become the black-winged king.
As long as you and Yuna remain alive,
their memories will carry on through the ages.
-Wake up. -Get up.
-Our king. -The time has come.
You took quite a beating.
Don't push yourself yet. Get some sleep.
-I'll make coffee later-- Oh, I can't yet. -My pants.
They're here, but they're way too torn up to wear.
-My pants pocket. -Pocket?
I'm glad you said something before I threw these out.
That day,
I chose to block every memory I had except for those of Yuna.
My left eye...
has the ability to manipulate memories.
I was always told never to use it on others.
So, I rewrote my own memories.
To avoid the feelings of guilt for what I did.
But when I looked in her eyes, I remembered everything.
You still haven't found him?
All precincts are currently cooperating to conduct an exhaustive search.
I authorized Keith Flick's return because you said you'd take full responsibility.
I can offer no excuse.
Enough. I'll give you 24 hours.
Locate Flick within that time.
If you fail, the RIS will be immediately disbanded.
Is that clear?
It's entirely possible that he's deliberately slowing down the search.
But this will force his hand and make him genuinely apply himself.
You see, the RIS means more than anything to him.
Someone else would take over the manhunt, of course,
but if anyone is going to locate Flick, it's that man.
I've created access rights for you to read his and his team's files.
Please make free use of our system.
That will be helpful.
You told us!
That we're imitation gods!
Meant to be sacrificed to prevent his destruction.
That no one could harm us except the black-winged king!
Why? Why did this happen?
Stop!
You're the one true prophet, the only one who managed to decipher the inscription!
The one and only person who knows the past and can foresee the future!
Aren't you the one who was to lead us to the new world?
Aren't you?
Why? Why don't you answer me?
Regulus.

Wow, it sure is white in here.
Down we... go.
It's not painted white, though.
All these formulas and diagrams overlap and form layers, making them look white.
He probably started out writing them in black.
But once it was all black, he began using white.
But even that wasn't enough,
and he added more and more clearboards as time went on.
It's like... When I see all this,
each one starts to look like a cry for help from Keith.
Lily?
What's the answer that Keith's trying to find?
Why did you save me?
There's a few more things I want to ask you.
But first, dig in. We can talk about that afterwards.
Do you recognize this man?
I do.
Dead Kyle, a serial killer.
Also known as the Raven-haired Murder Machine.
And the man they claim to be my little sister's killer.
Claim to be?
Is he what you wanted to ask me about?
During his trial, he escaped from the mental hospital he was being held at,
and as he was about to commit a new crime, he was killed by parties unknown.
-This man was-- -I really don't care about the details.
I know Kyle didn't kill my little sister.
How she was killed was different from his other victims.
So why did he confess to murdering her?
How did he know where she was killed and where the murder weapon was?
How did he pass his polygraph?
Who was he covering for?
And to start with,
who was Dead Kyle, anyway?
You know who he is, don't you?
Yes.
I know.
He was a Reggie who was released.
As you guessed, he's not human.
"Reggie"?
A race of ancient demihumans created solely to fight.
He was one of the Reggies who attacked the Institute that day.
I killed him.
So, Killer B's motive was revenge all along. Well, well.
Every single criminal you've killed has been
a Reggie who took part in that attack, haven't they?
There was a burnt smell everywhere.
That day, surrounded by ash and despair, I swore a vow.
I would kill every last one of them. And I would find Yuna no matter what.
And until I do,
I won't let anyone stand in my way, I don't care who they are.
Among the foot soldiers of Market Maker
exists a team whose sole mission is manipulating social disorder,
based out of their flagship, the Moby Dick.
They sometimes brainwash humans to suit their purposes
and it's said you should never cross the group.
Letters deduced from a watch...
The site hasn't been updated in a while.
Oh, that!
Well,
I figured they might make contact if I got their attention,
so I made up that website.
I saw the watch. It was Jean who attacked Bran, wasn't it?
Yeah.
Keith, turn yourself in. It's not too...
He's here. With me, right now.
Killer B, you mean? So contact was made after all.
Kyle isn't the person who killed Erika. That's for certain.
And just as I hypothesized, it turns out he wasn't human.
Even coming from you, that's hard to believe.
It won't be long. It'll be over soon.
Everything that began with me deciphering the inscription
is about to come to an end.
I'll finally get the answers.
We already have our answer. We got it a long time ago.
You're letting the ends justify the means and are starting to go off the rails.
Tell me I'm wrong.
Keith, Bran almost got killed because of this.
Anyway, come back in. Let's work something out.
They're making their move, huh?
To take me out, they... Market Maker has finally started to take action.
Haven't they?
Did you even anticipate that, too?
Eric.
Yes?
I really appreciate all you've done for me.
I wanted you to know.
Keith?
Keith! Please, wait! Keith!
It's begun.
What's the big idea, asking me to come here at the crack of dawn?
I don't know what you're doing, but are you done?
The red text written on the ceiling.
It's the only complete mathematical formula.
I've re-entered them three times. I thought it must be a mistake.
Boris.
Is this why Keith has always kept his distance from me?
Who is this? You know, don't you?
Is there some connection between Keith's coming back and this person?
What is Keith trying to do?
That girl...
During the winter eight years back,
her body was cut up and dumped in the mountains.
She was Keith's little sister.
So to reuse discarded Reggies, that gold solution is necessary?
It's used to adjust their testosterone and dopamine levels.
There seem to be various kinds, but I don't know much about it.
What causes them to be discarded?
Around age 20, Reggies lose control of their powers and can't think rationally.
They're discarded when they fall below a set value.
And by "discarded," you mean released into society?
Yeah.
So, how many are there? Grade-C goods like Kyle, I mean.
There are lots.
This country is crawling with more discarded Reggies than you can imagine.
At a signal, they'll turn into frenzied weapons, killing until they're put down.
It's disguised as something else. So although it's in plain sight,
-no one knows. -Killing is the only way to stop them.
-I'm gonna buy some red bean buns. -Huh?
I'll answer if it's about the investigation.
I have issues with the direction this investigation is taking.
I'm busy. Come back later.
We could keep this up forever, but I don't think we'll find Keith.
That's an order. Keep working.
-I won't obey. -Then get out.
You're hindering the investigation. Leave your badge and get out.
Didn't you hear me? You're suspended.
I'm saying that I don't need fools who can't obey orders.
Get out right now.
Die, you four-eyed chin with legs! Jerk!
Everybody in the RIS calls you that! Jerk!
Eric. Lily's on the move.
Are you sure this is a good idea? I'm worried.
The RIS is under Market Maker surveillance.
This is our only option to get ahead of them.
Yeah, but I'm worried Lily might get caught in the crossfire.
Boris, the girl is a professional.
I'm sure you've noticed that Lily and Keith are very similar.
Their thought process. Their insight. Their drive. Their inquiring minds.
The reason I scouted Lily for the RIS over everyone's objections
is that deep down, her abilities are equal to Keith's.
Because I sensed that in her.
And...
Boris, if Keith doesn't want to be found, I can't find him.
I'm betting on Lily.
Understood.
Kaela, are you done?
Almost there.
Okay, all done!
Are we secure now?
I don't know. But I think this will keep them out for a while.
Here. This red line is Lily, right?
Who tagged her car?
Boris did it.
She's gonna be upset when she finds out.
I had to do it. I don't think she has what it takes to keep up an act.
Yeah, probably not.
-Because she's an idiot. -Because she's an idiot.
I want a red bean bun.
I don't have any leads.
It's the same thing everywhere I look.
If it's all the same, I should've gone someplace with good food.
The smell of those spices with the funny taste...
How did you know that blue steel was the Reggies' weakness?
Same as you.
My father's journal.
How long do you plan to wander around aimlessly?
There's nothing aimless about it.
We're hitting up towns that have good places to eat.
I said "how long"?
Until your body is back at 100%.
If you're gonna complain, rub one out and go to sleep.
You seem pretty much recovered to me.
It seems like you're ready to fight.
I'm guessing you have an ulterior motive for saving me.
Answer me.
There's something I want your help with.
-There's no reason for me to help you. -There is.
Would you mind getting this out of my face?
It's in the way.
Now, I want an explanation.
I've been investigating two men for a long time.
That's why I got back into the field.
I needed to see everything with my own two eyes.
She's almost to Hols Island.
Can't imagine Keith would be in a place like that.
It's nothing but old men and women, and a handful of tourist traps.
I think Keith would stand out if he set foot outside.
Kaela, make arrangements for a chopper.
I've spent a long, long time looking into them.
But no matter how deep I dig,
clues that seem made up get in the way of the answer.
In the way?
Yeah.
The first is "the possibility of non-humans."
-The existence of you guys, basically. -You aren't getting it,
-but Yuna and I aren't Reggies, so-- -I'm starving.
Let's go grab something to eat.
What else?
Before I get to that, let me ask you something.
Was Yuna the Yuna you remembered?
She wasn't. Not at first.
I thought as much.
My guess is...
Man One has the ability to manipulate memories and bend people to his will.
You had blocked off your own memories, right?
Isn't that the same ability?
So you're saying he and I are related?
Yeah.
The person who killed my father, who took Yuna from you,
and who tried to capture you... The mastermind behind all that...
is probably that man.
See, what did I tell you?
You're right. They're using one of those new tracking devices, huh?
That's why we can't find them.
The module doesn't use GPS.
It pinpoints location using only cell phone base stations.
It's the method for pinpointing earthquake epicenters.
-What can you do? -Don't worry.
It accesses the map when it receives an alert.
See? There it is.
I'll go confirm it. That's okay, right?
Understood.
Can you swear to me that you won't lay a hand on him?
Of course.
I knew it, that dish is this island's local specialty!
Is Keith really gonna be in a place like this, though?
I didn't get ahead of myself, did I?
Two chicken gumbos.
You got it.
Two gumbos, make 'em cluck!
This place has the best gumbo around these days.
You still haven't told me about Man Two.
That one's got nothing to do with you.
I want to know anyway.
Well, maybe you ought to know.
Is he the man who killed your sister?
-Is he-- -He's human.
He's human?
Yeah, I know. It doesn't add up.
If Man One is a demihuman with brainwashing abilities,
it's weird that Man Two would be human.
He'd just need to compel him, so I don't get why they would partner up.
So what you're saying is, you have an idea of who Man Two is.
I have my suspicions.
That's why I have to make certain for myself.
All right. I'll work with you.
I'll kill Man One. I'll avenge Dr. Heath's death.
Tell me. Where is Yuna?
They're hiding among the light of the stars.
Fly towards Canopus.
Canopus?
What do you think you're doing here?
Er... You see... I can explain.
Not so fast!
I tracked you down by asking just two freaking people.
Why didn't you tell me that you knew each other?
It never seemed to be the right time.
This is one surprise twist we ain't gonna weasel out of with a joke.
Don't make this my fault!
Are you two listening?
Koku!
Yes!
What's going on here? How do you know this geezer?
My younger brother.
I had no idea until just recently.
Is this true?
It is.
Look me in the eye and swear it. This is the truth, right?
I asked him to pick up some things. I didn't have anyone else to turn to.
Us being together is just temporary.
You two don't look anything alike!
We're only half brothers. I take after my dad, but he takes after his mom.
So you have another sibling besides your sister who doesn't resemble you.
Yeah, I know about her. Boris told me everything.
I saw her formula portrait on your ceiling.
So don't you dare keep playing dumb with me.
He always looks down on me.
I can handle him just fine by myself.
Just you watch, Minatsuki.
I have a good idea of why you might not like me.
I'm short, have black hair, am left-handed and Asian.
It's because I remind you of Erika. That's why, isn't it?
If you don't want to answer, fine.
But...
if your end goal for all this is revenge,
then as a servant of a lawful country, I can't let you do it.
Besides--
What, what, what, what's going on?
I can do this all by myself!
What's going on?
Koku?
Lily, listen closely.
If we survive, I'll tell you everything.

I can do this all by myself!
Lily! Burn this sight into your mind!
I can't believe you used Lily.
Is that a problem?
Not really.
You're going to tell me, right?
The reason why you turned yourself in?
Reason? You've gotten to be paranoid.
And whose fault is that?
You know, right?
It's just that no one is noticing it.
I see.
Let's review the facts.
The instant Market Maker got involved, clarifying the situation became pointless.
So we only expose those parts that reflect badly on the country.
If whoever is in charge of Market Maker has lost his mind
and has been abusing his position, what then?
Whoever's been deriving pleasure from killing my sister and tormenting me
has been exploiting his position as head of Market Maker
to commit a string of murders out of self-interest.
We need to confront the country with that fact.
Impossible. They must be the most tightly run organization.
Exactly.
No one has realized that madness has spread
within an organization that orchestrates madness.
If what you say is true, there's a single disease vector.
Plus,
you have a good idea who that vector is.
Why aren't you acting on it?
I don't have any incontrovertible proof.
As far as I can tell, he's followed the same daily routine
for the past eight years, never deviating from it even slightly.
If we assume he still has homicidal urges,
I don't know where or when he commits murder.
Homicidal urges?
Our killer has impulse control disorder?
Yeah. And not just him.
You're saying he has accomplices?
Well, it's not quite that.
I'm still unsure, myself.
So, I figured I'd come back to confirm it in person.
You don't mean...
Yeah.
The killer is close to us.
In the few hours we have left, how will you find the proof
you couldn't uncover in eight years?
Thanks to the runt behind that mirror, nothing's gone according to plan.
At this point, I can't do it by--
You took too long to figure that out!
"At this point"? You couldn't before, either!
You've got mental muscle, but none anywhere else!
You never could do anything by yourself!
You just figured that out? Idiot!
That's the real Eric.
Even now, he can get like this when he's drunk.
Who knew?
...and you dare to blame us?
My apologies.
I learned everything I know about police work from you.
I'm proud of that.
I've always asked myself, "What would Keith Flick do?" before I did anything.
That's our cue.
Took him long enough.
What are you doing?
Everyone here will follow even your most absurd order exactly.
I assembled the best talent I could find and drilled what you taught me into them.
Do you know why I did that?
Eight years ago, when we got fed up with that show trial,
we plotted to kidnap Dead Kyle
and bring to light all of the crimes we had uncovered.
The whole thing was my idea.
But you acted on your own, and as a result,
I found myself in the awkward position of having to arrest you.
Why would you do such a thing?
Was it to protect me? Or had you simply lost control?
To this day, I still don't know.
But I have learned what you and I were missing that day.
And that's...
a team.
Give us our orders.
For the next few hours, we're your personal team.
Either way, the instant we deliver you to jail, the RIS will be disbanded.
Let's turn this around! Time for some giant killing!
First, will you take these cuffs off?
I can't do that. You're still a suspect.
What do we do about Market Maker? They'll definitely try to stop us.
Don't worry. I have a play in motion.
We'll use Lily as a decoy.
Absolutely not! It's too dangerous!
I'll do it even if you tell me not to!
On what evidence?
My first day back on the job, I bugged him.
Oh, I get it.
Bugs that disappear are harder to spot.
The pack only lasted a day. He's a heavier smoker than I expected.
Did you learn something?
Just one thing.
He still talks to Erika even now.
What did you say?
Kaela, let me borrow your eyeliner.
Lily, take off your jacket.
Ah, Ms. Hoshina. What brings you here at this hour?
Could I trouble you to sign this?
Running errands?
It's a long story. I'm the only one who isn't doing anything.
Oh. That business with Genie. It must be difficult.
These X-rays sure are strange.
Oh, yes, they're quite unusual.
Hardly any cases have--
It's a rarely-documented skeletal structure.
Oh?
Thank you very much.
Do you still believe in him?
I'm not really sure why. But, well...
I'll keep believing in him to the end.
You barely know the man, but he's won your unwavering trust, I see.
I don't know why. But...
he's always on my mind.
I bet I'm in love with him!
What? It was an act! An act!
Hey, don't be creeps!
Anyway, we've set the bait. All that's left--
Keith?
You suffer from chronic blushing, huh?
Is this a trap set by Genie? Or could she really...
What do you make of this, Erika?
Erika?
Where are you, Erika?
I've had enough!
Savior, my ass! What you are is an angel of death!
Kukuri.
Quinn, Izanami, Kamui, Takeru! They're all dead because of you!
Be quiet.
I know everything, you hear me?
I know what you're planning to do!
When Regulus finds out, you're history!
She's dead.
I gotta be honest, I'm worried. Isn't there another way, Eric?
She's a trained member of the RIS. She'll be fine.
-Keith? -I have no idea.
At least try to comfort me!
Boris! He's made contact.
Eric! We have a nibble!
You commute by bus?
Uh, just for today. My car got totaled.
Totaled?
That's another long story.
If you like, I can give you a lift. Hop in?
Thank you so much!
They're westbound on route 11.
He actually seems to be heading towards Lily's.
Roger that. Will confirm. Maintain pursuit.
Gosh, you're a lifesaver!
I mean it, thanks a lot!
My commute home is in the same direction, so it's no trouble.
My fingers were about to freeze off!
You're exaggerating.
Something keeps bringing us together today, huh?
Just a happy coincidence, I suppose.
As cold as it is, it might turn to snow if it starts raining.
Snow, huh?
Does that remind you of something?
When you get to be my age, lots of things do.
Can I hear about it?
Maybe some other time.
If someone holds back, I'm the type who starts poking around.
Is that okay?
What's wrong?
I normally wear contacts.
I don't have them in, so everything's blurry.
Can I turn on the radio?
Sure.
Erika.
I can hear someone humming.
Considering the techno-ish melody, it must be Lily.
Techno?
Lily loves the stuff.
Hey, she can't--
What's wrong?
It's nothing. Forget it.
You certainly listen to odd music.
This song is really famous!
Erika would never listen to this.
Eric, the target has pulled into a car wash.
A car wash?
Eric, target is on the move again.
Just to be safe, close distance and confirm Lily's safety.
Roger that.
Nothing seems out of the ordinary.
Target is pulling into a building!
That's not Lily's house.
It's...
It's Gilbert's house.
Stick with the plan. Continue as normal.
Lily is with him, though.
The car is empty. Lily went inside, too?
She is. She's on the move.
None of the lights are on. Something's not right.
What do we do?
Lily was humming techno.
After that, there were no clear messages from her.
Keith?
Clear!
Clear.
Gilbert Ross! Hands behind your head and get on your knees!
You're late.
Gilbert?
You're late. You're really late.
Who are you?
Eight years. It's been eight years!
-Now we can finally... -...be set free!
Run, Boris!
Mario! Hurry!
Like the cycle of death and rebirth, it will repeat itself,
continuing forever!
An indelible code will be etched into you!
All signals have been lost.
Boris, please respond!
Mario! Report status!
Boris! Boris!
Please respond!
Boris! Respond!
Sorry, Eric.
You're okay?
How is Boris?
I'm alive, somehow. Crap, my ears are ringing!
What happened?
It wasn't Gilbert. It was someone else.
What?
He switched places with a Reggie he had waiting.
These past eight years,
he did this same thing again and again before committing his crimes.
A Reggie? Where's the real one?
Put out an APB!
"Chance that an investigator has been abducted. Search area at once."
But our investigation is a secret, so--
-I'll take full responsibility! Do it! -Wait!
It isn't over yet! We keep going as-is.
-This is an emergency! If we don't do-- -Eric!
Emergencies are part of the process.
In the past, we tried to prevent emergencies before they happened.
That was our mistake. That's why we failed.
Keith?
Trouble and unexpected factors are both inevitable and essential!
They have to be surmounted. Each one has a purpose.
They always lead to something.
But Lily might be--
I won't let her die.
Please. Have faith in me.
Keith, eh?
Where have you been? I was worried sick,
Erika.
He's caught onto me, huh?
Oh, well, I should have plenty of time to carve her up.
He won't be able to find this place for a while.
When Keith shows off that brain of his
and bursts in here with a triumphant look on his face,
the faint glimmers of hope that had blossomed inside him will be snuffed out,
and a new despair will take root again.
It's the same color.
The same feel.

There are birds called demoiselle cranes.
Amazing things that migrate over the Himalayas for the winter.
You can probably get there using the same method.
As the cranes?
First, go to the northern cliff.
Northern cliff?
Right. Jump off of the northern cliff at a speed of at least 15 kph.
After you fall for two seconds, then right here...
whoosh!
I spread my wings.
Then, if you catch one of the updrafts that occur there during this season,
it'll automatically carry you above the clouds.
Once you're above the clouds, start flying towards Canopus.
Towards Canopus? What's there?
A white ship hidden among the stars.
A ship?
An enormous airship built during the war called the Moby Dick.
It's Market Maker's base of operations.
If she's anywhere, that's where she'll be.
Would Yuna...
be waiting for me?
I told you, didn't I?
That I was the one who deciphered the Jetblack inscription.
Yeah.
Everyone said the glyphs couldn't be cracked
because the meaning changes
depending on their combination and reading direction.
Vertically, horizontally, diagonally.
Odd numbers, even numbers. Prime numbers, roots.
Countless patterns exist,
with each of them forming their own sentences.
Not many know this,
but the slab contains as much information and mythology as the Bible.
Of course, it was full of similes and metaphors,
so there's a lot you can't make sense of.
But one passage is hard to ignore.
"The Tale of the Two Shrine Maidens."
On the night of the 13th full moon,
the man chosen by the two shrine maidens gained power, companions, and wings,
and became the black-winged king.
Their purpose fulfilled, the two maidens presented to him a blade that burned blue.
"Decapitate one of us," they said.
The maiden whose head was cut off turned to ash and merged with the king,
granting him still another power.
The remaining maiden became his wife and fought at his side atop Cremona's summit
and shared his fate when the end came.
Does that sound familiar?
Me, my father... No, everyone who ever came into contact with it,
we all became driven by that tablet.
If we define god as something eternal that can bend fate to its will,
then that tablet itself is god.
If we're driven by that tablet,
then as long as I have anything to do with it... Yuna will die.
If there really is such a thing as fate,
then accept it all.
If you don't like it, then fight back.
Koku.
Don't fear the future.
The hope, the despair...
see it all for yourself.
This is the beginning.
You and I will save our brethren together.
It won't be you.
His world is strictly below the clouds.
Even if he should try to reach the stars,
his wings will simply be burned by ice, and he will fall.
Just like Icarus.
He's going to come.
Koku will definitely...
He probably won't use the main streets. You can't predict travel time.
These roads over here would be the safer bet.
He'd stand out more in alleys.
He's on the run. Would he use a street he knew was prone to traffic jams?
None of that matters.
As far as he's concerned, this is an ordinary day.
I don't know if I can call this an ordinary anything.
In any event, we'll never make any headway.
We have to narrow down the search.
What is it?
That crowd search software I used earlier.
We may be able to use it.
Of course.
We just need to tweak it so it flags any cars behaving irregularly.
Can you do that?
I can, but there's one small problem.
There aren't enough satellites.
If I can get 1/200,000,000th of the Earth...
That's a radius of 1.8 km.
How many do you want?
Two more.
This is okay, right?
Oh my.
Will that do?
How did you...
Something this old-timer taught me long ago.
Lily's life is on the line. Hurry.
No one is coming to your rescue.
He won't have enough time...
to find this place.
Got it.
Where is he?
-Heading for the harbor area. -The sea?
Kaela, display his maximum travel distance centered around those spots.
-You mean by ship. -Right.
At what speed?
Use the average. There's no traffic at sea.
That's 22 knots.
So around 0.5 miles? What about the margin of error?
Use another color.
-What's this? -The Ramon Ports & Harbors District.
It's military-controlled and off-limits to the public.
Ramon? Where have I heard that name before?
From Ramon Psychiatric Hospital, remember?
Dead Kyle.
Yes. That's the hospital where he was being treated.
Hospital?
His adoptive father was a navy man,
so maybe he pulled some strings to get him admitted.
It seems they also have ties to us.
What?
Look at this.
Apparently, unclaimed bodies are delivered to the lab to be used as cadavers.
Dead bodies? Delivered?
It's the anniversary of her death, huh? The year flew by.
Erika.
This country is crawling with more discarded Reggies than you can imagine.
It's just that no one is noticing it.
Another cadaver?
No.
That's not right.
Another cadaver?
Thanks.
Kaela, go through Gilbert's exit logs.
From the lab? Sure, hang on.
No way.
According to the logs, Gilbert Ross hasn't left the lab.
What?
In the past eight years, how many times has Gilbert worked past midnight?
Thirty-seven times.
Black hair, fair skin, brown eyes.
Around 25 years old, under 160 cm.
How many unsolved disappearances are of women fitting that profile?
Thirty-seven incidents.
No doubt about it.
Gilbert's lair...
is right here.
Kaela, can you pull up this building's blueprints?
Looks like there are a lot. Which one?
All of them.
It's been altered a lot.
They kept adding to it over the past 300 years.
That explains why each floor is a different architectural style.
Kaela, display the plans, but separated out by year.
Give me a second.
-Also, show us attics and crawlspaces. -Okay.
-Voids between the additions. -Done.
Any dead space larger than 180 cm.
That's this one.
Done.
It's right under our noses, but we don't see it.
Kaela, call for backup!
-We can't. -Why not?
Think about it. Could he pull all this off by himself?
It's not possible.
But...
We don't know how many people he has on the inside.
It's possible that there's more of them than there are of us.
We need a decisive blow or they'll crush us.
What should we do, then?
We'll put an end to this all by ourselves.
Take these off me.
Let's go.
Right!
When we catch Gilbert, what do you plan to do with him?
There was a space like this hidden inside the station house?
There's... There's so many!
Puzo.
Who's that?
The chief executive of the Jaula Blanca Institute,
the organization dedicated to reviving the divine bloodline,
Albert Puzo.
Father of Gilbert Ross,
and the first man he ever killed.
This is where he began.
He killed everyone here by himself?
This is far more than 37 people! What would he do this for?
-I don't know. -You don't know?
You must be joking!
This is madness! Keith!
Nothing but simple madness!
I've investigated him for a long time.
He probably noticed as well.
But nothing's changed.
He kills people like the rest of us breathe,
and then resumes his routine as if nothing happened.
Days later, someone else is arrested,
and after they confess, they die in one way or another.
Suicide. Murder. Sickness.
After everything has been reset,
he goes back to his daily routine.
That's crazy! He couldn't possibly...
He could.
All you need is immense power. A heart incapable of remorse. And...
a brain that's superior to everyone around you.
Hello, Keith. Are you still there?
Where's Lily?
She really does look like Erika, doesn't she?
Right down to the color of her skin and of her eyes.
So tell me, what do you want me to do?
Whatever you want.
You only used one scalpel, huh?
Looks like you ran out of here in a big hurry.
Did we get here early?
You don't have Lily with you. And she isn't dead.
Because you couldn't use Lily to slow me down if she were dead.
Gilbert. I'm not the man I used to be.
I have teammates this time.
Don't make me laugh. Teammates?
You're going to escape tonight.
For now, that's fine. Run.
But no matter how far you go,
the only thing waiting for you will be despair and darkness.
I will hunt you down, and I will find you.
And then I'll kill you with my own two hands.
I'm happy to hear you say those words, my dear friend Keith Flick.
Excuse me, is this--
Lily!
Lily!
-Keith? -Here!
She's been drugged!
Lily!
Lily, hang on!
It's okay, move that one!
Lily!
She'll be fine!
Set up a cordon! And get an ambulance!
Kaela!
Yes, sir!
Gilbert escaped! Lock down the area around the station immediately!
Roger that! Um...
-We've got Lily back in one piece. -Seriously?
But she's been injected with a drug. Call for an ambo!
Roger!
This is what he used to get away?
You're pretty amazing.
I'm moving up the timetable!
Kill everyone with ties to the Royal Police! Do it right now!
Use the gas if needed!
We're busy right now.
What?
Our hands are full at the moment. We can't spare any time to deal with you.
You... Are you trying to be funny?
Not at all.
We're grateful to you. You saved us.
But...
we also saved you.
Minatsuki.
Well, I have things to do. Sorry.
Hey! Wait! Minats--
Damn it! Damn it!
Damn it, damn it, damn it!
I knew. I can't beat Keith.
I knew that.
And yet he...
Erika, don't go!
Erika! Erika!
Erika!
Erika!
Erika! Erika! Don't go.
Don't leave me.
Erika.
He's finally dead?
They're all behaving so predictably, it's almost funny.
They're so simple.
All that's left now is the epilogue.
Let's finish this, Genie.

That's it.
Keith.
You're pretty amazing. But this is as far as you go.
I'm going to put an end to this.
Keith.
Lily!
Bran!
Are you okay?
That's my line!
You have to stay lying down.
How long was I out?
Just a few hours.
W-Wait, what are you--
My clothes!
-I tore my stitches! -Where are my clothes?
He'll come. Koku will come.
He'll come.
A ship hidden among the stars.
Stop it, Minatsuki. Calm down.
Can't you hear the alarm?
He's already close.
He's coming?
Who's coming?
Minatsuki?
You mean him!
You...
So sorry, I just remembered. I was going to kill him.
Kill. I'll kill them all.
Then it'll be over.
Kill. Kill.
Kill.
Kill.
I suppose he'll at least buy us some time.
It's just like the myth says.
As I thought, it's not going to end here.
The inscription desires that the ending take place at that spot.
That's it.
Yuna.
Silver nuptial coloration...
This marks the beginning of the end.
As well as the hour when a new black-winged king will be crowned.
Welcome aboard the Moby Dick.
I thought you'd never get here, Black-winged King.
Right here and now, I'll take everything you have...
and become lord of all creation!
You're sure?
Yes.
Boris!
Just like you thought, these bodies have all been embalmed.
Given the number of them, it must cost eight figures to keep this place running.
So it's like Eric said. Just one person couldn't run this facility, huh?
That's my thought.
Eric! It's Lily!
Lily?
Has she woken up?
Hello? Hello?
-Lily, it's Boris! We're-- -Where's Keith?
Keith?
Isn't Keith at the hospital? We thought he was there with you.
He mentioned returning to the scene of the crime... three hours ago.
What?
Just before Gilbert escaped, he put a capsule or something in my mouth.
Keith took it out while he was carrying me and then said something.
Eric!
Lily!
We're coming to you! Sit tight!
Will do!
Where is Yuna?
If you tell me, I'll give you a quick death.
Yuna?
Who's that?
Wait.
Who...
am I?
Reggie.
-Reggie. -Who's that?
Withdrawal symptoms?
You're a Reggie?
Reggie?
We don't need Reggies.
Kill them all.
Actually, this will be perfect. I'll use this Reggie.
His eyes are the same color as mine.
I know it.
That eye...
I know it!
I know it.
I know it.
I know it.
I know it.
Don't be afraid.
Look deep into my eye.
From now on, you will be my phantom.
Just as I was his.
Who...
are you?
Who...
Who am I?
Don't let it end here.
This isn't him.
Yuna.
Yuna, you were waiting for me.
She waited for me.
She waited for me, but again, I was...
What took you so long?
I was getting worried you wouldn't crack it.
We used to use that cipher all the time to pass notes in class, remember?
Doesn't that take you back?
Badmouthing the professors.
Asking if our nemesis was there. Our favorite records.
Yours was Blue Öyster Cult. Mine was Thin Lizzy.
Yours was Kate Bush.
Hurry over.
This place has seen better days, but it's just like it was back then.
He said he'll put an end to this!
Those were Keith's exact words to you?
Yes!
That means he's going to the murder scene, right? Up in the mountains?
That's where her body was dumped, not where she was killed.
The place where Erika was murdered was...
Tell me one thing.
What?
You couldn't have carried it out on your own authority. Who ordered it?
You mean the attack?
That's simple.
Jaula Blanca's main product was the living weapons called Reggies.
The king and military couldn't care less about resurrecting gods.
Success was the last thing they wanted.
And I'll let you in on one other detail:
The one who both proposed and led the attack was me.
I let Minatsuki kill Dr. Kazama.
Children are the strangest things.
If it's what they want to hear,
they'll even believe lies.
Why weren't you controlled by him?
You mean the ability of Minatsuki's right eye?
You know why. You're asking anyway?
Because you were controlling him.
When it comes to childhood beliefs,
unless the child sees irrefutable proof with its own two eyes,
those beliefs will never fade.
It's a sort of hypnosis, you see.
It was a clumsy lie,
and yet he believed it.
Even now, he believes if he kills Koku
as set out in the inscription, he can rule over a new world as its invincible king.
How many?
How many lives will you toy with before you're satisfied?
Surely you see it.
I will never feel satisfied.
I... have to kill to live.
But the thing is, Keith... Think about it.
You're the same as me. Don't you agree?
My impulse to kill and your impulse to study.
We're the same in that neither one of us can control ourselves.
That's a trait common to all Flicks.
Erika wasn't able to keep her emotions under control.
So I...
We both belong to cursed bloodlines.
Let's put an end to this.
The glyph for "black" is repeatedly used as a synonym for "perfect" here.
Do you know how you make the color black?
You mix all colors together.
That's why black stands apart from all other colors.
It's the perfect color.
A color fit for a king.
You don't know, do you?
Why it is I'm doing this.
I listened to you.
I listened to your voices in the distance through the window.
I passed the time, imagining what everyone was like.
Until Izanami came, I had been alone my entire life.
I wanted to know.
Why only I was kept isolated.
On that tumultuous night, he told me everything.
I was created and kept alive just to be spare parts for Koku.
My fate was to be carved up as we grew,
and eventually be put down like a stray dog.
That's why my existence isn't recorded in the inscription.
I was... nothing more than a phantom.
He's the only Reggie who was successfully stabilized through treatment
and showed no signs of rejecting Koku's eye.
He was kept in strict isolation.
It's only natural.
If the military learned of his existence, he would be eliminated.
The last hope for stabilizing the Reggies.
I get it now.
The real target of that attack was Minatsuki?
I didn't want to believe it.
I fought with all my might against the inscription.
But it was hopeless.
The first time I saw his eye, that convinced me it was all true.
And so I swore to myself.
Whatever it took,
I would steal everything from him.
You can't.
Koku will never lose.
So... you won't be able to steal anything.
You don't get it, do you?
Can't you see?
We're all playing out our roles exactly as written in this inscription.
Life, death, everything. There's no fighting it.
We're nothing more than bit players in a repeating story.
Which is why...
you and Koku will...
die here.
Yuna!

Koku.
Let me give you one piece of advice.
Whatever happens, don't go near the Jetblack.
Why not?
The black-winged king, who was called a god and boasted of his invincibility,
was killed there by the human who became this country's first ruler.
Whenever someone who can't possibly lose loses, there's always a reason.
A reason?
Most likely, the Jetblack siphons off your ability to regenerate.
Listen, whatever happens, don't get lured to that place.
What are these tears for?
Frustration? Pain? Despair? Sadness?
Which one?
This moment is the only reason I've kept you alive.
As is written in the inscription, you and he will meet your end here.
And then...
I'll engrave the legend of a new king into the inscription.
This is what it boils down to.
What if Minatsuki was used as an incubator to refine a vaccine
and a treatment that stabilized the Reggies was developed?
The public will know money collected for the noble goal of resurrecting gods
was used to manufacture living weapons instead.
Also, everyone will learn that the military oversaw it,
and will know the name of Albert Puzo, head of their development.
Your father.
I saw his corpse on display in that room of yours.
In his later years, my father started to come around to Dr. Kazama's point of view.
Perhaps he grew... sentimental in his old age.
If anyone understands, it's you.
What a country truly requires isn't gods or medicines.
In cities around the world, with just one signal,
unstable weapons disguised as humans will kill everyone nearby until they die too.
It is fear of Reggies that keeps this country safe.
Why did you keep Minatsuki alive, then?
It wasn't out of altruism or some noble cause.
After you killed your prey,
you'd have Minatsuki brainwash a Reggie and set him up as the killer.
And then Market Maker tidies up any bread crumbs.
It's the ideal arrangement. You can't possibly let that go.
The man who knows it all, Keith Flick.
The mind of a god. Prodigy. Genie.
You think you know everything, don't you?
But you're just like me, aren't you?
You made contact so you could exploit him.
The monster named Koku.
So you're here...
Koku.
Koku.
Yuna!
You took longer than I thought.
What did you do to Yuna?
Don't worry. She isn't dead yet.
She isn't going to die
until after I've made her watch you die.
Don't try to put me on your level.
You deceive everyone and exploit everything for your own benefit.
It's what you are.
There's no regret or remorse in you.
The instant you feel a twinge of guilt, you create a separate personality.
By driving that first personality into a corner and erasing it,
you reset your emotions back to zero.
You shift your flaw of having to kill to survive onto someone else,
and stave off a complete mental breakdown.
The real monster here isn't Koku or even Minatsuki.
It's you... Gilbert Ross.
What's the matter? Your body isn't moving the way you want?
Those wounds won't close, not here.
This is the place for endings and beginnings.
It only helps those who have accepted their fate.
Leave a trail of illogical and unsolvable puzzles,
and you'll definitely take the bait.
The inscription's legends are the ultimate motif.
A fantastical story. The tragedies surrounding it.
You became trapped in the labyrinth I constructed for you.
With each puzzle you solve, the mystery grows and you fall deeper.
Deeper. Deeper.
And there at the bottom is darkness as black as velvet.
Devoid of friendship and love,
a world where there is nothing.
Keith Flick.
This is all about you.
They're all vignettes designed to drive you into action.
You would be tormented, suffer, and fumble for answers.
And then you would step into my world of your own volition.
You would look at me with eyes overflowing with hate.
And when I witness that moment with my own two eyes,
that will be the ultimate pleasure,
one that surpasses even murder.
Are you kidding me?
"Fate"?
I won't be a puppet to something so stupid!
Whatever happens, I swear...
I'll keep Yuna safe!
What's the matter? Fight back.
Let me see you fight against your fate.
You don't understand.
Like the cycle of death and rebirth,
it will repeat forever.
Inside our memories, Erika has a new beginning--
In the end,
that's why you did all this?
That's your answer?
You enjoyed it too, didn't you?
Each time you solved a riddle, your cells overcame their grief
and you basked in the joy of it.
I wanted to make you see it.
That you and I are the same.
Go on, shoot.
Shoot me, Keith.
-He said what? -You're sure about that?
-He told me himself. -No way!
Erika's body had traces of cedar and pine pollen on it.
Gilbert himself leaked that info to me.
You're right, this island's the only place where both grow wild.
-But if that's true-- -That's why I want to make sure.
This mess was caused by the illusions and charades orchestrated by Gilbert.
At this very moment, we're all probably being manipulated as part of his story.
Operate with that in mind. Is that clear, people?
Roger that!
I have no intention of playing your game any longer.
What will you do, then?
Do you remember?
It was a summer day, with graduation approaching.
When I asked if there was one thing in this world you didn't understand,
you immediately answered, "Murder."
You heaped scorn on it, saying it renounced rational thought.
I saw you genuinely hate something.
It felt as if you were rejecting me.
For the first time in my life, I cried.
-Lily! -Lily!
-Lily, wait! Don't go in on your own! -Lily! Take a gun!
You're not the only one.
I truly loved Erika.
I could fend off my madness with her at my side. Or so I thought.
But...
Keith!
You know why I did it, don't you?
Erika...
had fallen in love with a man she shouldn't have.
I had no choice.
What's the matter?
Pull the trigger, Keith.
If you hesitate now, I'll just do it again.
Those you love.
Those who owe their very existence to you.
All those lives that have ever touched yours,
I'll make them my playthings and destroy them.
Keith, don't shoot him!
I'll carve an indelible code into you.
Gilbert Ross.
You're under arrest.
If you want to shoot, do it.
Whatever happens, I'll never become like you.
You lose.
You don't seem to understand.
Who will be the first to arrive?
Don't...
Lily, eh?
Just give up, Keith.
It's already over.
Don't do this, Gilbert.
Keith!
Don't do it!
I put this into motion to bring it all to an end.
Almost there.
It'll all be over soon.
All will be as the inscription says.
Once I dig out your other eye,
I'll send you to Heaven to join your friends.
They aren't dead.
What?
-They're alive. -Alive!
-Dr. Kazama entrusted their future to me. -We're all in here!
-That's what I was created for. -We're alive inside Koku.
-They're alive inside of me. -We'll be together forever.
-Their consciousness, their memories, -We'll keep Koku safe!
they're all inside of me.
You don't know what you're talking about.
I have... Yuna and I have a duty to carry them into the future.
I won't let you, or even fate, stand in the way of that!
All right, the fun's over.
Wait!
Wait!
Yuna, I forgive you for everything.
Yuna!
Koku.
Yuna!
The ancient legend will end,
and a new tale will now begin.
Your roles are now over.
I'll make you pay if it's the last thing I do!
Farewell, Black-winged King.
Why are you running? You have nothing left now.
Give in to your fate!
Cut off my left leg. It'll be useful to you someday.
Izanami's blade?
I gave serious thought to killing you. But I decided against it.
It would be rash. It would indeed be the cessation of rational thought.
So, it occurred to me that I should test you.
Would Keith Flick never commit murder under any circumstances?
Were his thought processes set in stone?
This is a grand experiment.
Fantasies that defy comprehension would relentlessly assail a realist.
The tragedy that bound it
would gnaw away at Keith Flick's mind and soul.
Backed into a corner, his neurons would grow agitated.
And his soul, now ruled by madness, would whisper to him...
"Pull the trigger."
I want to see that instant from a front row seat.
I want to etch it into my memory.
I would force you to kill me.
It takes four seconds for brain activity to cease
after the shot rings out and the cranium is penetrated.
Those seconds will be the ultimate moment,
savored by you and I alone.
Keith...
morning will come to the world even without me in it.
As you bask in the light of the morning sun,
I will be reborn in your memory.
I will live on inside of you.
An indelible code will be etched into you.
A new legend will begin, one about us.
Pops, gimme the usual!
Today's the day, huh?
You think Keith's gonna show?
Lily went to get him, right? I think it'll be fine.
It'll probably be fine.
Lily's the reason I'm worried.
You go, then.
Yeah, go yourself, you prematurely balding macho man!
Hey, Mario! Good morning!
-He actually left. -Ignore him.
Seems like life's back to normal.
Right after, it was all "Market Maker," "Jaula Blanca," and "police cover-ups."
There was a worldwide ruckus, but it's quiet after only three months.
That's how human beings are wired. We get bored and we forget.
That's what lets us start over.
Yeah, but there's a lot of stuff that needs to be worked out.
That's exactly why he's coming back from HQ.
Maybe, but once Keith is back,
I have a feeling more creepy incidents will occur.
-I can hardly wait! -You're scary.
Knock!
Cut that out! Just come in.
Good morning!
Fresh from Matsuya!
Don't make music by knocking!
Today I attacked with a half-time shuffle!
-Why do you attack every time? -Upsy-daisy.
They're out.
-But I bought enough for them! -Don't look at me!
If it's not important, go away.
What're you talking about? Today's your first day back at work!
Boris told me to drag you in even if I had to slap a leash on you!
So I even bought some rope!
My rope!
Ta-da!
What's that?
I bought myself a '58!
She might look dainty, but I swapped out her engine for a 356!
I even customized the exhaust manifold, so she'll do 140 kph-- Hey!
I can't ride in that, moron. I'm walking.
Get in, or it's the rope!
-Accept a lift when it's offered. -Shut up.
I know it's kinda late to ask.
Your sister, Erika...
She was adopted.
I knew it. She didn't look anything like you.
Forget it, it's nothing.
There's something I've been thinking about for a while.
He had a smile on his face when he died.
I've been trying to figure out what the emotion was behind that smile.
Satisfaction? Superiority?
What else would it be?
Gratitude.
This is just a thought,
but what if Gilbert wanted to put an end to his madness?
But all those multiple personalities in his head wouldn't let him.
Basically, he was no longer in control of himself.
So maybe he put himself in your hands, you know?
He entrusted the role of ending his madness,
to the one and only person who was superior to him, Keith Flick.
And you arrived at that place just as he hoped you would,
and you pulled the trigger.
Whatever the truth of the matter is,
Gilbert's the winner in all this.
-You're not frustrated or anything? -Why would I be?
I mean, isn't that the same as admitting defeat?
It doesn't matter either way.
You're sure?
Winning and losing were never very important. Not to me and him.
One sets out a puzzle, the other solves it. That's all it was.
Nothing more than that.
More importantly, things are gonna get hectic at work now. The real issue is--
-Koku! Yuna! -Hi, Lily!
-Where are you going? Want a lift? -Yes!
-How? There's no room! -They'll fit!
-We'll fit, Koku! -We'll never fit.
-We're going to the station! -We'll fit!
-Let's not go anymore! -Get in!
Didn't I tell you? This is what you get when you leave things to a Reggie.
I'll go this time.
I'd like to get my left arm back from him.
Don't mess this up, Kirisame.
I said we'd see each other again soon, didn't I, Koku?

Take wing and gather together.
The festival of stars is nigh.
You're amazing!
It's the rookie we've been hoping for.
-Keith. -Didn't you even know that?
Is she dead?
Nope, she's still alive!
Then hurry up and get started!
Sure.
Let's clean our kill.
Henry! Richard!
Hey! Freshly baked buns!
Oh crap!
Good morning, Lily.
Morning, Koku!
Good morning, ma'am!
Shh!
Good morning!
Hey. You're late.
Er, sorry about that.
Want a red bean bun? Freshly baked!
You can eat at a crime scene? How impudent.
So, are the victims more... you know?
We linked our vics to multiple murders in our jurisdiction.
We had them pegged as serial killers,
but before we could get an arrest warrant, our misguided pal got to them.
Killer B.
I'm sorry, sir, this area is-
It's fine, shut up.
Kill!
Kill!
Kaela, put up those other images.
Sure. Want them all?
Just don't dazzle Boris' eyes.
I don't think that's possible.
We're to obey Gen. Bern's instructions!
What's this?
Is this a revolution?
Everyone, get there ASAP!
-Mario! Take command on scene! -Roger!
Brandon, you're our liaison with the local cops!
Roger! Boris!
Could you handle the army? Please oversee our unit placement!
Wait, you want me to do it?
Yes, you!
All right, fine.
Keith.
What?
There's an emergency. I'd like your assistance.
You flies are getting on my nerves!
This looks like trouble.
Lily! We're gonna get behind it!
Can you get ahead of or next to it?
Uh...
Cut through the park!
Rodger Dodger!
W-Wait, Lily! Don't--
I didn't mean it literally! Use the road! The road!
Target acquired!
Lily!
Here we come!
Lily! It's firing at us!
Sorry!
Anything on thermal?
Not a thing.
Seal off all areas immediately. Just get that thing contained.
This is Alpha!
Eric! Where'd the IFV go? Requesting instructions!
Damn it.
Who are these people?
Who were they?
Hey, where are you taking me?
Changing rides.
The fun is just beginning.
Any sign of the IFV?
Nothing yet.
Where did it vanish to?
I'll boost the satellite's sensitivity.
TLN: In written form "The wise A is exploiting foolish B
Either way, this is tricky.
Now then.
Which one is the real objective?
What is that man doing?
What are all those weird squares and triangles?
As I recall, he called it something like the variable separation method.
If you don't know, fine.
I've known him for 20 years now.
And I've never known what was going on in his head!
That's nothing to brag about.
It's just...
if you give him time, he'll show the way.
To what?
The answer.
Diversion or robbery? Neither. A diversion to facilitate a robbery.
Two above, below, one above...
Eric.
Remember this place?
Hey!
Li- Li- Lily!
Don't talk, you'll bite your tongue off!
This is so damn fishy!
Ow!
What are you doing, Bran?
Look at this!
Hey, that's...
It can't be.
Come on, it's just a coincidence.
Yeah, it must be.
Are you seeing my marks?
I'll keep on killing.
Until you find me.
I found you.
I'll find you.
I'm...
right here.

I'm sorry.
But this has to be done. With your sacrifice,
our grand plan will become reality.
Don't look at me like that.
I need to go, so--
You awake?
What the hell, man? This isn't funny!
I'm sorry. But this has to be done.
With your sacrifice, our grand plan will become reality.
So...
I hope you can forgive me,
Mr. Yellow.
Y-You planned this all along?
No fair, let me be part...
of the plan.
Let me...
First period, science experiment complete!
Second period... That's Morals class!
I feel so sorry for him!
I feel so sorry for him!
Where's the Chief?
He went upstairs a minute ago.
It was different?
You can't tell?
What's the matter? Are you feeling sick or something?
This case doesn't involve Killer B.
What are you basing that on? His usual mark is right there.
Keith, what makes you think it wasn't him?
It's sloppy.
Can you explain it to us in simple terms?
The angles aren't naive.
Will it work?
No idea.
You're such an obnoxious old fart!
What?
I'll be going.
So obnoxious!
Shut up!
-No eating, Lily. -I won't.
-It sounds like it. -It's physiological.
Don't use that excuse for everything!
Instinct, then.
I'm telling you to do something about those "instincts."
Over a mic, that doesn't sound like any noise a human would make!
It's a distraction!
My mic's in a bad location.
What is that?
An oiran.
Are you all right?
Y Yes.
Kaela?
He's right.

It is about me, Sharply expresses itself:
Those thousand questions Spreading their roots
Bring in the end, Only drunkenness and madness;
Understand this trick. So gay, so easy:
Is she with you?
On it.
It's open!
We're saved!
They're coming out!
Call it in!
Eric, it's from Kaela.
Put her on speaker.
Eric?
Kaela, it's Eric. You're on speaker.
I'm with Jean, Abbot, and Brody.
If that's okay, go ahead.
I have the building's systems back online.
Well done. Now please get back to locating the poison--
Already on it. But something's bugging me.
What is it?
While I was attacking the system,
there were repeated defensive attempts from the criminals.
But then they suddenly stopped.
Stopped?
Is it a trap?
It's the gas!
Run!
Mario! Sit-rep!
Talk to me! Anybody!
Brandon! Lily!
Somebody respond!
How could this happen?
Damn it.
Kaela!
If you manipulate the HVAC system and direct the flow of air,
the gas will be diverted to empty parts of the building! Do it!
That risks depriving any airtight rooms of oxygen.
If anyone's in one, they'll-
The gas is what's important!
I'll take responsibility! There's no time!
Hurry!
Roger that.
Zeppole di ...seppe.
Boris! Where are you? Is Keith with you?
He is! We're northbound on route 8!
Route 8? What are you doing out there?
I don't know! Ask Keith!
Keith, we have an emergency! Get back here right away!
The gas was released in the tower!
Wh-What did you say?
We're currently unable to raise any of our people inside!
Genie, head back!
There's nothing to worry about.
BLUE OXIDIZED COATING
It's a perfect world we longing for
That's what I believe.
That said, I have no idea in hell what that "something" is right now, though.
I guess not.
So, thinking about all that other stuff is pointless.
Right?
Understood!
I'll stop thinking!
No! He didn't mean entirely!

On the right, a new First.
Keith!
People of the black bones,
-gather ye together at the promised land. -Keith! Keith!
Keith Flick.
Keith.
Genie, no!
Don't look!
Keith.
Genie!
Keith.
He mutilated just her face.
Like the cycle of death and rebirth, it will repeat itself, continuing forever.
Keith.
I love you, Keith.
I'll reconstruct it.
Falling. Shaking. Falling.
It'll be just like before. Just like how she used to be.
I'll put everything I have into it.
A new First.
Another Fourth.
I guess I should go to the library.
It's connected properly.
Koku!
Yo!
-The Royal Library? -Yes.
What for?
To research something.
Research something? Why not just do a web search?
I don't have anything like a computer or cell phone.
Oh yeah, I've never seen you use either.
Well, I don't need them.
Wow, really? I'd die without mine.
I won't.
But they're so convenient!
I'm not interested in convenience.
You are strange, after all.
I see. You have a cute face, but you're still single
because you're nit picky-
Are you off today, Lily?
Have you ever had one?
No, I haven't.
So eat. Then leave.
I said I'm not leaving.
It's a pain.
I thought you could untangle them.
It only makes sense this way.
I've lost my appetite.
I know, right? It's all a jumble. Chaos!
And?
Don't you see it?
This is the cases' structure!
It's a mess, you mean?
How is it?
It's very high purity.
Boris!
You've had enough, Kaela!
Don't be such an old man!
I'm not an old man!
She's nothing like her.
Need a hand?
N-No, I'm good.
I was just leaving.
Okay...
Bran?
Good night!
Mind the fort!
Brandon?
Oops! I forgot all about him!
Hello?
Where are you right now?
At Keith's place. Everybody's here.
Keith's?
Eric already left. Are you coming?
So did Jean! That party pooper!
If you're coming, grab some beer!
And snacks!
Don't forget snacks!
I'll be right there.
What a weird kid.
Come on, hurry up, hurry up.
Koku? Koku? Are you okay?
You sure are sentimental.
I hope we meet again!
We will!

We just got orders to stand by.
From Eric?
Apparently, the security footage of the attack was erased.
So someone's on the inside?
We've been instructed not to act too boldly right now.
Most likely-
What, they don't trust us?
Lily.
Yes?
Keep Bran's condition under wraps.
He might be attacked again.
For now, we can't trust anyone outside the RIS.
Yes, sir.
How's that?
It's better than before! There's no buzz, and it's sustaining again!
What was causing it?
It wasn't just one thing. Take a look right here.
See? Right here.
A youngster wouldn't understand.
You're a true craftsman!
Aren't I? Keep up the praise!
He's here!
Touch Canopus.
Look, that's him!
Canopus.
Keith!
You've been acting weird ever since the hospital!
Why'd you stop all of a sudden?
I need to stop at that market.
What?
Hang on, you're shopping?
I need to use their bathroom.
Again?
Number two.
You're definitely lying.
Come in with me, then.
I can't-- Hey! Come back here!
Stupid Genie!
This is gonna be tough.
Yeah?
Find anything?
All I can tell is that it's a mess, both inside and out.
And given what's on it, I can't request support.
This will take time.
I see.
Call me if you find anything.
Oh, hang on, Eric.
Don't worry. He's out of danger.
Thank goodness.
Kaela.
"Keep it to myself," right?
Please do.
Roger that.
Okay, Brandy,
what did you find?
Yeah?
Kaela, it's me. Switch us over to a secure line, okay?
Sure, one second.
Okay, go.
Are you busy?
-This had better be important-- -Whenever you're free.
Send the following names to my cell.
It's sent, Keith.
Got it. Thanks.
-What do you need those for? -I don't know yet.
That'll be a trillion yen.
For what?
Look, sir, I'm not running a charity here. Bye now.
Damn it, I'm too busy for this.
I don't believe you only used the bathroom.
You're reading too much into it.
Shut up! Shut your hole! This stinks!
Stinks, stinks, stinks! And not just your poop!
It stinks, stinks, stinks!
That incontinent old fart's always trying to leave me out of the loop.
What? What?
Don't move. Put your hands up.
What are you doing?
Hands up!
Oh, you're right!
And now...
This again?
What again?
He came in a while ago. But then he turned around and left again.
Oh.
Lily.
Since you're here, would you mind making a delivery to Takeda and Brody?
They asked me, but I forgot.
Isn't that my knife?
You stole it when you came over for drinks.
JHR.
J, H, R.
Likely still in the area!
Keith.
Requesting immediate dispatch!
Run.
Jean!
Keith.
Don't die, Jean! Hang on!

Oops.
Where is it, where is it?
Koku.
I'm Keith.
I know.
Of course you do.
Where do I start?
Relax.
Yuna's-
If you're alive, so is she.
You're wrong, Yuna.
Shut up!
Yuna!

Yeah... I did. And?
And?
That's all? That's all.
So get moving!
But-
Kirisame, keep Koku safe no matter what.
Koku, where are you? I'm scared!
Yuna!
Koku!
Who are you?
I'm Minatsuki.
Koku is my little brother.
Come with me.
It's not safe here anymore.
Koku's waiting for us.
He is?
Yuna!
Keep moving!
But Yuna might...
If anything happens, we have to go to the shelter.
I'm sure everybody's there!
Yuna will catch up, so come on!
'Kay.
Minatsuki! Izanami!
You're safe? Thank goodness!
Get to the shelter right away. The enemy's closing in, so--
So it was you people all along...
Market Maker.
You're...
Minatsuki.
You're the devil.
I will never become his spare parts.
So that rumor really was true, then?
Where's Koku?
Don't let him deceive you.
Minatsuki, he's--
Goodbye, Canopus.
Almost there!
Is this it?
Yeah.
I'll hold them off here!
Lock yourself inside!
But-
Koku!
Listen, you're our king!
You mustn't die here!
Kirisame.
I'll be right behind you!
No!
Kirisame, come with me!
No more talk! Get moving!
Koku! Run!
I'll see you soon.
Just wait in there.
Yuna.
I'm sorry!
Koku?
Yuna?
Yuna!
Yuna!
Yuna!
Yuna!
Koku?
Wake up.
Get up.
Our king.
The time has come.
You took quite a beating.
Don't push yourself yet. Get some sleep.
Oh, I can't yet.
I'll make coffee later
My pants.
They're here, but they're way too torn up to wear.
My pants pocket.
Pocket?

This man wa-
I really don't care about the details.
J.H.R.
I'm gonna buy some red bean buns.
Huh?
I'll answer if it's about the investigation.
I have issues with the direction this investigation is taking.
I'm busy. Come back later.
We could keep this up forever, but I don't think we'll find Keith.
That's an order. Keep working.
I won't obey.
Then get out.
There's no reason for me to help you.
There is.
The existence of you guys, basically.
You aren't getting it,
but Yuna and I aren't Reggies, so-
I'm starving.
Is he-
He's human.

Keith?
I have no idea.
Now we can finally... be set free!
Run, Boris!
Mario! Hurry!
Like the cycle of death and rebirth, it will repeat itself,
continuing forever!
An indelible code will be etched into you!
All signals have been lost.
Boris, please respond!
Mario! Report status!
Boris! Boris!
Please respond!
Boris! Respond!
Sorry, Eric.
You're okay?
How is Boris?
I'm alive, somehow. Crap, my ears are ringing!
What happened?
It wasn't Gilbert. It was someone else.
What?
He switched places with a Reggie he had waiting.
These past eight years,
he did this same thing again and again before committing his crimes.
A Reggie? Where's the real one?
Put out an APB!
"Chance that an investigator has been abducted. Search area at once."
But our investigation is a secret, so--
I'll take full responsibility! Do it!
Wait!
It isn't over yet! We keep going as-is.
This is an emergency! If we don't do-
Eric!

You mean by ship.
Right.
At what speed?
Use the average. There's no traffic at sea.
That's 22 knots.
So around 0.5 miles? What about the margin of error?
Use another color.
What's this?
The Ramon Ports & Harbors District.
Also, show us attics and crawl spaces.
Okay.
Voids between the additions.
Done.
Any dead space larger than 180 cm.
That's this one.
Done.
It's right under our noses, but we don't see it.
Kaela, call for backup!
We can't.
Why not?
I don't know.
You don't know?
Excuse me, is this--
Lily!
Lily!
Keith?
Here!
She's been drugged!
Lily!
Lily, hang on!
It's okay, move that one!
Lily!
She'll be fine!
Set up a cordon! And get an ambulance!
Kaela!
Yes, sir!
Gilbert escaped! Lock down the area around the station immediately!
Roger that! Um...
We've got Lily back in one piece.
Seriously?
But she's been injected with a drug. Call for an ambo!
Roger!
This is what he used to get away?
You're pretty amazing.
I'm moving up the timetable!
Kill everyone with ties to the Royal Police! Do it right now!
Use the gas if needed!
We're busy right now.
What?
Our hands are full at the moment. We can't spare any time to deal with you.
You... Are you trying to be funny?
Not at all.
We're grateful to you. You saved us.
But...
we also saved you.
Minatsuki.
Well, I have things to do. Sorry.
Hey! Wait! Minats--
Damn it! Damn it!
Damn it, damn it, damn it!
I knew. I can't beat Keith.
I knew that.
And yet he...
Erika, don't go!
Erika! Erika!
Erika!
Erika!
Erika! Erika! Don't go.
Don't leave me.
Erika.
He's finally dead?
They're all behaving so predictably, it's almost funny.
They're so simple.
All that's left now is the epilogue.
Let's finish this, Genie.

That's it.
Keith.
You're pretty amazing. But this is as far as you go.
I'm going to put an end to this.
Keith.
Lily!
Bran!
Are you okay?
That's my line!
You have to stay lying down.
How long was I out?
Just a few hours.
W-Wait, what are you--
My clothes!
I tore my stitches! Ahhh!
Where are my clothes?
Hello? Hello?
Lily, it's Boris! We're-
Where's Keith?
Yuna?
Who's that?
Wait.
Who...
am I?
Reggie.
Reggie.
Who's that?
Withdrawal symptoms?
You're a Reggie?
Reggie?
We don't need Reggies.
Kill them all.
Actually, this will be perfect. I'll use this Reggie.
His eyes are the same color as mine.
I know it.
I...
That eye...
I know it!
I know it.
I know it.
I know it.
I know it.
Don't be afraid.
Look deep into my eye.
From now on, you will be my phantom.
Just as I was his.
Who...
are you?
Who...
I...

He said what?
You're sure about that?
Lily!
Lily, wait! Don't go in on your own!
Lily!
What?
Alive!
They're alive.
Dr. Kazama entrusted their future to me.
We're all in here!
That's what I was created for.
We're alive inside Koku.
We'll be together forever.
They're alive inside of me.
We'll keep Koku safe!
Their consciousness, their memories,
they're all inside of me.
He actually left.
Ignore him.
I can hardly wait!
You're scary.
Knock!
Cut that out! Just come in.
Good morning!
Fresh from Matsuya!
Don't make music by knocking!
Today I attacked with a half-time shuffle!
-Why do you attack every time? -Upsy-daisy.
They're out.
But I bought enough for them!
Don't look at me!
Accept a lift when it's offered.
Shut up.
You're not frustrated or anything?
Why would I be?
I mean, isn't that the same as admitting defeat?
It doesn't matter either way.
You're sure?
Winning and losing were never very important. Not to me and him.
One sets out a puzzle, the other solves it. That's all it was.
Nothing more than that.
More importantly, things are gonna get hectic at work now. The real issue is--
Koku! Yuna!
Hi, Lily!
Where are you going? Want a lift?
Yes!
How? There's no room!
They'll fit!
We'll fit, Koku!
We'll never fit.
We'll fit!
We're going to the station!
Let's not go anymore!
Get in!
Didn't I tell you? This is what you get when you leave things to a Reggie.
I'll go this time.
I'd like to get my left arm back from him.
Don't mess this up, Kirisame.
I said we'd see each other again soon, didn't I, Koku?
