The damage wrought from last year’s tornado extends all the way here.

There’s a small settlement over yonder.

If we ask around, we can probably find someone to put us up for the night.

There’s no need.

I don’t want to add to their burdens.

We’ll camp outside.

This is fine for one night.

What’s the matter, Princess?

Volta, this is an ancient ruin.

Could it be from the Era of Asgard?

I’m not sure.

This is...

That’s a Shepherd, right?!

Clem would flip out if she saw this.

She’s convinced that everything written in the Celestial Record is true.

I’m the one who recommended the Celestial Record to her.

Then you believe too, Princess?

That Shepherds exist?

If they do exist, I’d love to meet one someday.

A real-life Shepherd.

Listen up!

Those interested in taking the Trial of the Blade can sign up inside the Sanctuary!

Clem!

The princess requests your presence.

I’ll cover your post.

Thank you, Tao.

Do any of you dare to undertake the Trial of the Blade?!

You wished to see me?

Isn’t your father a physician in Guriel?

Yes, Lady Maltran.

Then Clem is the perfect choice.

Pardon me...

Just a while ago, Drake the astronomer came to report the discovery of a strange cloud, or rather, mist.

Just a while ago, Drake the astronomer came to report

the discovery of a strange cloud, or rather, mist.

The wind does not move it.

The rain does not disperse it.

It simply hovers over one location.

And that location seems to be Guriel.

That’s why you summoned me?

As you know, the weather has been unstable in Hyland for several years now.

It has affected crops throughout the land.

I want you to go to Guriel and see if anyone reports anything unusual.

Yes, ma’am.

I’m counting on you.

I’ll leave immediately.

Princess...

I’ve grown quite fond of the Celestial Record that you gave me.

I’m glad you like it.

Are you mad?!

You want to conscript the youth who come to the Sacred Blade Festival?!

That’s a terrible idea, Chancellor Mathia!

If I may, Princess.

If the outbreak in neighboring Marlind is contagious, it is only right to dispatch the army.

If the outbreak in neighboring Marlind is contagious,

it is only right to dispatch the army.

What does that have to do with conscripting soldiers?

Everything, of course.

If we need more troops for public safety, where do we get them?

If we need more troops for public safety,

where do we get them?

You should take the initiative. Find and recruit patriotic youths.

To serve under you.

I see.

So that was your plan all along.

That’s why you agreed to hold the Sacred Blade Festival.

I say this as member of the royal family:

The Sacred Blade Festival will not be used as a tool of war.

The mist has gotten thicker.

Why is that?

I cannot say.

But Princess...

The mist has become more ominous.

In fact, it seems downright malevolent.

I can’t help but feel this is an omen of some kind.

Can you follow Clem and head for Guriel?

Right away, my lady.

Gannet, how long has it been since Clem left?

Roughly two weeks.

And still no word.

Princess.

What’s the matter, Tao?

Who are you?!

Who put you up to this?

Enough. Retreat.

Boss, I can still do this.

You’re no match for her.

You’re pretty good, Princess.

Why didn’t you finish him?

You had plenty of chances.

Was it because of your so-called integrity?

Or...

What do you want? Answer me!

What do you want?

Answer me!

You’re going to Guriel?

I’m worried about Clem.

Then I should be the one to go.

Clem is my pupil, after all.

No.

I need you to oversee the preparations for the Sacred Blade Festival.

I don’t want to postpone it, even for a short time.

Why are you so determined to hold the festival this year?

Do you honestly believe that someone will be able to extract the Sacred Blade?

The one who extracts the sword guarded by the Lady of the Lake will be the Shepherd.

It’s no more than a legend.

The one who extracts the sword guarded by the Lady of the Lake will be the Shepherd.
It’s no more than a legend.
I just don’t want this one ray of hope that has begun to shine on Ladylake to fade.
Clem must be having a grand time checking out the ruins.
The ruins?
Oh, didn’t you know, Tao?
Guriel has ancient underground waterways that rival the ruins in Ladylake.
Is that so?
She used to brag about always exploring them as a child.
If that’s all she’s doing, she’s going to get it from me.
As long as she’s okay.
That’s enough for me.
Masks, everyone.
Clem used to say that the green clusters here were as pretty as jewels.
Even so, I don’t think they’d make for a good souvenir for Maltran.
Princess Alisha!
Don’t pick them!
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to...
Please forgive us.
We have no intention of taking what’s yours.
I don’t recognize you. You must not be from around here.
Such insolence! Do you know who you’re talking to?!
It’s fine.
I want to ask you something.
How long has that mist been there?
It only became obvious recently, but it’s been there a long time.
When we noticed, it was just there.
It was just there?
Here, miss!
For you!
Thank you.
First, let’s check in at the guard post.
Clem will have gone there too.
After checking around town, Clem...
Are you okay?
Pardon me.
Clem headed for the woodlands in the north and has yet to return.
Up north? That’s in the vicinity of the mist.
Indeed, it is.
Just what is that mist?
We don’t know.
It was just there, and before we knew it, it grew to that size.
We’ve gone several times to observe it more closely, but we’ve never noticed anything unusual.
Let me ask you this:
How do you feel about the situation in this town?
It’s so lifeless.
Tao, please stay here.
I want you to continue looking around town.
Understood. What about you?
I’m going north.
To the woodlands.
This is...
The mist... It’s moving!
Clem!
Princess Alisha?
Clem! Behind you!
Princess Alisha!
We must get away now!
But Drake is still down there!
He’s what?!
He was going to find out about the Earthpulse!
Earthpulse?
Princess Alisha!
What’s happening up there?
At this rate, the town will be swallowed up.
What do we do?
According to the professor, the world is connected by something called the Earthpulse.
Natural energy turning into the Earthpulse is what protects the world’s equilibrium.
But now, that equilibrium is broken.
Long ago, man ruled this land...
...and walked the path together in reverence with things unseen.
Man has not existed alone.
This generation is paying for the arrogance of forgetting that.
That is what I believe.
If I can find the Earthpulse, perhaps I can discover its secret.
Volta!
Gannet!
Volta... Gannet...
Princess Alisha!
Please let me off! Otherwise, we’ll be overtaken!
We won’t.
Princess Alisha!
We won’t!
I won’t let that happen!
I shall open the portal of chaos with you.
What’s happening?!
This is great!
This is so much fun!
Who are you?
You won’t get in the way of my main course!
Is this a dream?
What’s going on?!
Clem...
Clem... No...
Clem! Clem!
Answer me, Clem!
It cooled down.
Why?
Clem...
Gannet...
Volta...
Miss...

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 01 [16AE06F9]

The world is already...
It’s morning.
A hero brandishing the Sacred Blade...
This is a mural of the Shepherd!
In the Legend of the Shepherd,
it mentions the Celestial Capital.
A sacred land located on the highest summit.
The gates to the capital are sealed shut.
They’ll only open to those who will lead the world of man.
The Shepherd, accompanied by seraphim, shall descend.
And with the power of the seraphim,
he shall cleanse the world of darkness and bring salvation.
But it’s just a legend.
The world is already...
What the?!
Wh-Where am I?
Is this another Asgard ruin?
Is this...
the mark of the Shepherd?
The place where the holy symbol shines...
The mark of the Shepherd opened up a path.
Could the legends be true?
This is awesome!
Who knew these ruins were here all along?
Sorey!
Mikleo!
Why are you venturing out on your own again?
You’re just a normal human. You need to be more careful.
What if you fell?
Well, I guess I can’t blame you.
This is pretty awesome.
Yeah!
I find it hard to imagine that Gramps and the others don’t know about those ruins, though.
You have a point.
Everyone knows how much we love searching for ruins.
In that case...
Sorey?
I found it!
What did you find?
Check this out.
I see. It was one of Gramps’ illusions.
Good eye.
So what now?
We explore, of course!
No, you won’t.
Gramps?!
Why can’t we?
That area was sealed off long ago.
I will not allow you to get any closer.
No exploration. No investigation.
Understood?
I wonder why Gramps doesn’t want us to enter those ruins.
Look here, Mikleo.
The Chapter of the Advent.
Long ago, in the Era of the Gods, when the world was in darkness,
they appeared from the heavens and reclaimed the light.
Seraphim went their separate ways to live in various areas of the world and to nurture all of creation.
One of the places was the Celestial Capital.
So you think the ruins we saw today are the remains of the Celestial Capital?
Yep!
The people of the Celestial Capital began to provide worship.
Those with the right resonance were allowed to speak with the seraphim.
Humans and seraphim.
The seraphim gave their blessings to the people,
and the people offered prayers to the seraphim.
The ones with resonance became the bridge
to connect the people with the seraphim at the Celestial Capital.
Interesting.
The Celestial Record.
You really love that book, don’t you?
Of course.
Based on the description in the Celestial Record,
there’s a high chance those ruins are the remains of the Celestial Capital.
So you’re going, then?
What about you?
Well...
Something else concerns me.
Didn’t you notice?
Those ruins were outside Gramps’ domain.
Now that you mention it...
I guess we should check it out.
You’re going to disobey Gramps?
What, now you’re not going?
Who’ll make an amazing discovery first?
It’s a race, then.
Yeah.
I knew it!
A hero, brandishing the Sacred Blade...
This mural is a depiction of the Shepherd!
This is...
The mark of the Shepherd.
What was that for?
Mikleo!
Looks like you beat me this time.
Not just this time.
Just this time.
There’s something unnatural about this lightning.
Master Zenrus...
Is that you, Kyme?
I know.
Someone is creating a disturbance outside my domain.
That is correct, sir. What shall we do?
Sorey and Mikleo haven’t returned yet?
No.
What am I going to do with those two?
The old ruins certainly piqued their interest.
Kyme...
Do nothing for now.
Yes, sir.
Is this a shrine?
A dead end...
If someone trespasses upon my domain, they will face my wrath.
It’s as if this storm is being summoned by the ruins themselves...
Sorey?!
This way! Quick!
Surging currents!
Twin Flow!
W-Wait, what are you-
Sorey!
That was a close call.
Who knew there’d be ruins underground?
Good thing we fell down here!
Right...
Hey, let’s try and find a way out of here.
Yeah.
Oh, man. What a drop.
It’s been nothing but heights all day.
But I had an awesome bas-relief to distract me.
Yeah, I bet you did.
There’s someone.
Here?
Hey, Mikleo...
It’s...
a human.
A human? What’s a human doing here?!
We have to help her!
Remember what Gramps said.
We shouldn’t get involved with their kind.
We can’t just leave her there. She might still be alive!
Fine, I’ll give what help I can.
All right!
But how do we get to that side?
No way...
Yes, way!
Let’s go!
What were you thinking?
Coming down here doesn’t help.
Mikleo, look.
Now I get it.
An invisible bridge. Good eye.
Okay, let’s hurry.
Oh, right.
How do you think this bridge was made?
I think this is beyond the capabilities of human technology.
So like, the bridge alone might date from the Era of the Gods?
Possibly.
Maybe we should rethink this.
Hey!
Are you all right?
Huh?
I was sure the lightning hit me...
Glad you’re okay.
Can you stand?
Thank you.
I’m sorry to have troubled you.
And you are?
I’m Sorey.
Nice to meet you.
Sorey?
Sorey...
Are you a Shepherd?

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 02 [C16FAD91]

Sorey...
Are you the Shepherd?
I’m just an ordinary human.
Not a Shepherd?
You’re human too, right?
This is the first time a human’s ever come up here.
In that case, this must be the Celestial Capital, right?
Yeah, it is.
So shouldn’t there be a Shepherd here?
Not that I know of.
But I did find a mural of the Shepherd with the Sacred Blade.
A mural?
Were the stories just old fairy tales, then?
Then the world...
is doomed.
This is a bad idea.
We shouldn’t bring a human to the village.
I can’t just abandon someone in need.
Haven’t you noticed that she won’t even volunteer her name?
It’s only natural to be cautious.
Everyone has their reasons.
But she doesn’t look like a bad person to me.
I cannot possibly thank you enough.
Oh, don’t mention it.
Gramps is gonna let us have it when we get back.
Is something wrong?
Nah, don’t worry about it.
Well, let’s get moving.
I guess she really can’t see me.
Just like Gramps said.
Wow, it’s beautiful.
I half expect to see seraphim wandering around.
You really do call them "seraphim"!
Is that funny to you?
"Things which cannot be seen or explained, such as gods, spirits, or supernatural phenomena,
are revered by the people as ’seraphim.’"
Right?
So you’ve read the Celestial Record too?
Yep. Wait, you as well?
Tell me, Sorey.
What’s the name of your village?
It’s Elysia.
Elysia?
I’ll go report this to Gramps.
Guess we can’t keep quiet about this.
Coming by afterward?
Yeah...
Hey, everyone, I’ve got someone to introduce to you!
Seraphim!
If you are here, please hear me out.
Like in the legends, the world is about to be plunged into chaos.
No, it already is in chaos.
We need the seraphim to restore balance to the world.
Please lend me your power!
Please give me a sign!
O seraphim, please!
Please respond...
Sorey...
Ask her to leave before she invites calamity.
You idiots!
How could you bring a human into our domain?
Easy, Gramps.
Didn’t you say you’d listen to Sorey’s side of the story too?
Sorey...
You know full well the rules. How could you break them like this?
I’m sorry, Gramps, but I couldn’t just leave her there.
What you’ve already done cannot be undone.
However, you must send her back to the realm below at once.
Our priority is the peace of Elysia.
Her kind is sure to bring nothing but trouble to our domain.
But... I’m "her kind" too, you know.
You were raised along with our kind,
which nurtured in you the ability to perceive us and converse with us.
Normal humans have no such capacity.
You should understand that more than anyone else.
Then...
Why did you let me have the Celestial Record, Gramps?
What?
It was written in the book...
Long ago, humans and seraphim coexisted.
I read it!
Times have changed.
But she believes in the seraphim.
I must’ve thrown you for a loop earlier.
When I spoke out to seraphim who couldn’t possibly exist. I wasn’t myself.
Oh, not at all.
So then, what’s your hometown like?
I’m from the capital.
The capital?
Of the Kingdom of Hyland.
Ladylake.
Ladylake?
Like in the legend of the Sacred Blade?!
"The Lady of the Lake guards the Sacred Blade, and the one who draws it becomes the Shepherd," right?
Yes. But nobody has ever pulled the Sacred Blade out.
Mikleo! How long have you been there?
Gramps sent a message.
We do not know if the human will invite malevolence.
But chasing her out right away is also unwise,
since that could bring forth malevolence as well.
So...
We shall wait until she is ready to leave.
End of message.
Tell Gramps, "Thank you!"
And thank you, too!
I know, I know, Mikleo.
He means well, in all things.
And that’s the very reason why I’m so worried for him.
Here I go.
Got it!
Is this how you’ve always lived?
Yep. I’ve never left the village.
Sorey...
You must’ve had a hard life.
What’s the matter?
I...
I can’t shake the feeling that someone’s watching me.
Maybe there’s someone who’s worried about you.
Yeah, right.
You’re trying to tell me there are seraphim, right?
Feeling better?
Thanks, I’m fine now.
Good.
The Celestial Record...
Yeah.
I’ve read it countless times since my childhood.
"One day, I want to explore ruins all over the world."
Everyone who’s read the Celestial Record says that.
And I’m no exception.
But sadly...
Now is not the time for some jaunt around the world.
For several years now, the world’s been plunged into a nigh-incomprehensible state of chaos.
Chaos?
I experienced some of that chaos myself.
Chaos so horrid, I still have trouble believing it’s real.
Really?
So many lives were taken right before my eyes, including those of my friends.
Memories of that day are still fresh in my mind.
So that’s why.
"When the world was in darkness, they appeared from the heavens and reclaimed the light."
You came here in search of the Shepherd.
Yes.
The old legends were my last hope.
But now that I’m here, I know.
The legends are...
nothing but fairy tales.
Mikleo!
Sorey...
Mikleo!
I need it back right now!
Need what back?
This is...
Gramps!
Over here!
This is...
Cool, huh?
I’ve never seen anything like this!
Why would they create such a massive thing in the sky if it was just a fairy tale?
Not to mention the awesome temple!
Sorey...
I found this too.
The mark of the Shepherd!
The Shepherds did exist!
They’re not just a fairy tale!
If the world below is being engulfed in darkness like you say, a Shepherd will come.
I just know it.
You really believe in the Celestial Record, don’t you?
I do.
It’s my dream for humans and seraphim to coexist peacefully again.
I really believe the world will be like that again someday.
This is for you.
A Shepherd will come.
Thank you, Sorey.
I’m going to believe too.
Someone who can draw the Sacred Blade will come one day.
Are you sure you’ll be all right?
Yeah.
Okay.
Sorey, thank you for everything.
Alisha.
Huh?
That’s my name.
Alisha Diphda.
You didn’t even know who I was, yet you helped me without asking anything in return.
Whereas I thought only of myself.
As a knight, I am ashamed.
Please find it in your heart to forgive me.
It’s okay, really!
I must confess something to you.
I believe that the seraphim really do exist.
Alisha...
They did not respond to my words,
but I always felt their presence around me.
To be honest, I feel them even now.
The Sacred Blade Festival is soon to commence in Ladylake.
A trial will be held based on the legend of the Shepherd’s sword.
Sorey...
Won’t you take part in the trial?
Also...
You should hold onto this.
How come?
Yesterday, you said you wished for humans and seraphim to live together once again.
The Shepherd I see in my mind when I read the legends...
I have to say,
he reminds me a lot of you.
Well, I better go.
Sorey...
Gramps...
Someone has infiltrated my domain.
And they’ve concealed their presence.
Everyone, be warned!
There is an intruder in our realm!
Chance are good it’s a hellion!
Search with extreme caution!
We’ll go too.
Right!
Sorey!
Hurry!
Mason!
How odd.
I didn’t expect to find anything but the main course here.
But now there’re two more side dishes!
Hellion!
This is not the place for one such as you!
Leave at once!
Impudent brat.
Do you want to end up like him?
How dare you do that to Mason?!
Water!
Shred my foe!
Sorey, get back!
It had no effect?!
Gramps!
Away with you, evil being.
I shouldn’t be snacking, anyway. Not when the main course is getting away.
I’m so sorry, Gramps.
I brought a human to Elysia, and now that thing...
You’ve got it all wrong!
It’s not your fault or hers that the hellion appeared.
Mikleo is right.
Gramps...
Perhaps keeping that girl away might have prevented that hellion from entering this realm.
But it would’ve been selfish for us to believe that only our safety mattered.
Our peace is connected to the outside world too.
We must not turn a blind eye to that.
What did he want?
Not when the main course is getting away.
He didn’t appear here just because a human came to Elysia.
He was going after Alisha!
They’ll probably freak out with me gone suddenly.
Sorry, everyone!
Okay!
Oh?
Whoa! Mikleo?!
Thought I’d let you duck out of here?
I’m going too.
Seriously?
From what the fox man said, it’s fair to assume that he’s after Alisha.
You picked up on that too, huh?
Of course.
Look.
What’s this?
Gramps asked me to go out and search the ruins and find some clues about that girl.
This is the crest of Hyland.
I don’t think this "Alisha" is any ordinary knight.
Consider it a clue to finding Alisha in Ladylake.
You’re probably clueless about...
Mikleo!
I’m so happy you’re coming with me!
I couldn’t let you navigate the world of humans alone.
Not as guileless as you are.
I bet Gramps is mad, though.
He has a message, actually.
"Walk the path you believe in and live your life to the fullest, and I know you will not go astray."
This is really it!
This is our world!

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 03 [5B6E744D]

Mikleo!
That must be where the Lady of the Lake lives!
Look at all these people, Mikleo!
Indeed, it’s impressive.
This is a security checkpoint.
Well, what do we have here?
I bet you came here for the Sacred Blade Festival, huh?
You should hurry, though.
Registration for the general public will close soon.
Yeah, but this crowd...
You have a pass, right?
A what?
Are you serious?
I mean, they’ll still let you in, but it’ll take longer.
Really?
Luckily, there’s another way!
As merchants, we’re protected by a free trade treaty.
We’re the Sparrowfeathers.
We can go pretty much anywhere we please.
Now you’re free to walk around town all you like.
Ahem...
Huh?
What do you mean, "huh?"
That’ll be 500 gald.
I don’t do this for free, you know!
Gramps said humans need money.
You don’t have money either?
No...
Are you serious?
Lemme see your bag!
H-Hey!
Now we’re talking!
I can’t let you have that.
I have to return it.
All right, fine.
I have a feeling fate must’ve brought us together, so how about a rain check?
Looks like you’re off the hook.
All right, thanks!
So what do you think of Ladylake?
I know it’s called "the aquapolis," but this is really something else!
Lively, huh?
Yeah!
With the Sacred Blade Festival, there are even more people than usual.
Welp!
That’s enough dilly-dallying for me.
I’m here in Ladylake on business, after all.
I gotta get back to work.
Enjoy the festivities.
Thanks for everything.
Sorey...
We should start looking for Alisha.
Mikleo!
The malevolence here is strong.
This city is teeming with malevolence.
How are you feeling?
Better now, thanks.
Good.
It’s him!
Mikleo!
Sorey!
Why are you after Alisha?!
You attacked Elysia to get to Alisha, didn’t you?!
Oh, that.
I’m not targeting Princess Alisha anymore.
Then why are you even here?
Let’s just say that I’ve taken a liking to her.
I can tell that if I stick around her, there’ll never be a dull moment.
But don’t let your guard down.
Just because I’m no longer targeting her doesn’t mean no one else is.
It hasn’t been called off, you know.
The hit on Her Royal Highness, that is!
And as far as I know, the person they have on it always gets the job done.
I can’t wait to see what happens.
Lady Maltran, has there been any word about Greil?
We couldn’t find any survivors.
What you told me is very hard to believe.
It’s all true.
Is that why you argued against Chancellor Bartlow so adamantly?
You weren’t just making a snide remark at their plans to conscript the youth who attend the Sacred Blade Festival?
No, I was serious.
We shouldn’t be waging war over resources.
Even in victory, war breeds hate.
And the spiral of hate goes on.
War doesn’t have to be the answer here.
This is true even if the opposing side makes the first move.
The upper brass will never accept that.
Think before you act.
Oh, really?
I didn’t think the princess was such a fool.
The enemy fast approaches, and she orders us to stand down until we are attacked.
Did you object?
Of course I did.
But she would not listen to reason.
There are rumors floating around that Princess Alisha is secretly allied with the Rolance Empire.
That would explain her staunch opposition to the war.
The reason we’ve come here today is to determine whether Princess Alisha’s assassination is justified.
That decision will be made based on how many innocent lives can be spared by killing her.
That is what the Scattered Bones consider to be honor.
In that case...
There’s no doubt that the princess’s actions will lead our kingdom to ruin.
She’s trying to sacrifice the common folk in the name of her ideals.
In her words, she wants an exclusively defensive policy.
How naive.
Chancellor Bartlow.
We accept your request...
to assassinate Princess Alisha.
Huh?
Today is the fifth and final day of the Sacred Sword Festival.
Now we begin the Rite of the Warrior.
Huh?
That’s...
There’s no doubt about it.
She’s a seraph!
That must mean...
She’s the Lady of the Lake!
So that means the legends were true!
So much malevolence.
The world is...
Ladies and gentlemen!
For the past several years, we have abstained from our beloved festival
in light of the general state of the world.
But this year...
Thanks to the grace and assistance of our Lady Alisha, the Sacred Blade Festival can be held once more.
Now things are getting interesting!
Pulling out that sword means you’re the Shepherd?
It probably means that the Lady of the Lake recognizes you
as someone worthy of being the Shepherd.
Worthy?
Is that the last one?
How will the princess explain this farce?
What’s Alisha gonna do?
Let us applaud the ten warriors and the rest of the participants.
Unfortunately, we didn’t the find the Shepherd at this festival.
According to the old legends, the Shepherd, with the aid of the seraphim,
will be the one to cleanse the world of malevolence.
However, I did not organize this festival because I blindly believed in the old legends.
Today, our relations with our neighbors in Rolance are severely strained.
There are those who would believe that this festival is intended to raise morale before a war.
But I must disagree.
The legends also tell of a time when humans once coexisted with seraphim.
So instead of resolving conflict with war, should we not strive to live in peace with others?
Mikleo!
That is what I believe.
Especially during these trying times...
Even if Rolance decides to invade, we must not strike first.
We must be brave.
Such hostility.
The people’s fear, dissatisfaction, and resignation are giving rise to so much malevolence.
This isn’t good.
Alisha!
What’s happening?
Sorey, we must get away from here!
That’s a hellion!
What is that?! Look at the flames!
I have to...
Sorey!
Alisha!
Sorey?
Sorey, what are you doing here?!
What’s happening?!
Can you guys not see it?
Wait here!
Sorey!
Lady of the Lake!
Who are you?
I’m Sorey.
Lady of the Lake, can’t you do something about that hellion?!
Only the Shepherd can purify hellions.
The Shepherd?
Sorey, you really can see seraphim, can’t you?
Alisha!
Who are you?!
So long as you live, the people will suffer.
What?!
Wait!
The princess can handle herself.
Your priority must be to evacuate the spectators.
Understand?!
You too!
That’s an order!
Stay away, Sorey!
Don’t worry about me!
I need you to handle this situation!
It may be impossible for me, but you can do it!
I just have this feeling.
Sorey, I beseech you!
Please wait.
Since you can see me, you must have a very strong resonance.
Perhaps you can draw the Sacred Blade.
However, let me ask you one thing, Sorey.
Why would you become the Shepherd?
May I ask you your name?
Oh, of course. I am Lailah.
Lailah...
My dream is to investigate ancient ruins all over the world.
I believe that the old legends
hold knowledge about how humans and seraphim might one day live in harmony together.
I must find a way to make that happen. To bring humans and seraphim together again.
If purifying the hellions will save both humans and seraphim...
Then...
Then it’s the best chance I’ll ever have to make that dream a reality!
So, Lailah...
I...
To become my sword is to serve as a vessel for me to dwell in and to assume the Shepherd’s burden.
Blessed with the power of purification and abilities beyond human ken.
Cursed to be scorned by others and wrought with despair.
To protect this land from the hellions means a constant stream of agonizing decisions.
It is a lonely battle, the likes of which you can scarcely imagine.
That’s the burden of the Shepherd?
Yes.
It doesn’t matter as long as it allows me to save these people here.
I believe the path of the Shepherd will lead me to my dream.
I shall become...
the Shepherd!
Fethmus Mioma...
Is that your...
Yes, that is my true name.
Now, Sorey.
Harness the overflowing power within you!
Unleash the true power of the Shepherd!
Now!
Sorey is the Shepherd?
Impossible!
Sorey!

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 04 [85EB6C87]

You’re finally up.
Sorey!
How do you feel?
Mikleo, Lailah...
You’ve been out with a high fever for three days, you know.
Three days?
It’s probably because you became my vessel.
Who knows what would’ve happened if Alisha didn’t save you?
Alisha?
That’s right! Where’s Alisha?!
Sorey!
Alisha!
Thank goodness!
You’re awake!
Thanks for the food!
Given your appetite, I guess the worst must be over.
Yeah! The food was great!
Alisha, you took care of me this whole time, right?
Thank you.
I should be the one thanking you.
When you drew the Sacred Blade and quelled the riot at the festival,
my heart raced like never before.
I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
Does that sound strange to you?
Not really...
To show my gratitude, I’d like to give you something.
Sorey!
The Shepherd’s garb looks wonderful on you.
Yes, you wear it well.
So you can put lipstick on a pig.
Just admit it, Mikleo. You’re jealous.
Yeah, you wish.
I take it there’s a seraph present with you?
That’s right.
His name is Mikleo.
Sorey!
And this here is Lailah.
She’s the one everyone calls the Lady of the Lake.
I truly believe in my heart that you were meant to become the Shepherd.
Whereas the rest of us here in the city can be standing right next to seraphim and still not notice.
That’s not quite true.
She can’t hear you.
Sorey, try taking Alisha’s hand in your own.
We might be able to communicate to her through you.
Alisha!
Like this?
Can you hear me, Alisha?
It’s Lailah.
I don’t think she heard you.
Okay, then. Sorey, try closing your eyes.
Close my eyes?
Testing, testing. Can you hear me now?
Still no good.
Maybe Sorey isn’t concentrating hard enough.
So it’s my fault?
Sorey! Keep your eyes closed!
And this time, hold your breath.
What?!
Sorey?
Oh, sorry, we’re just troubleshooting.
Alisha!
I can hear it! Another woman’s voice!
Really?!
Was that Mikleo just now?
Y-Yeah...
Please, find it in your grace to forgive my rudeness up until now, Seraph Mikleo.
Rudeness? You’ve never struck me as rude.
Alisha...
We seraphim are able to see right into the very hearts of humans.
No matter the circumstances, never neglect the seraphim.
Or your heart shall turn to malevolence, and this in turn shall bring calamity.
Fear not, Alisha.
We’ve seen your gratitude for ourselves.
Sorey, one more time!
Isn’t there a better way to do this?
Once you’ve grown more accustomed to my power and gained more experience as a Shepherd,
I believe such a strict sensory block will not be required.
Does that mean once I grow stronger as a Shepherd, everyone’ll be able to hear the seraphim?
Everyone?
As for Alisha, she most likely has had high resonance from birth.
I see.
Looks like it’s not that simple.
Regardless, I was able to have a conversation with her.
I now have no doubts that the seraphim do indeed live among us.
And that alone...
Gets your heart racing?
Yes!
Pardon me.
Princess Alisha, it’s almost time.
Okay, I’ll be right there.
My apologies. I must leave for the palace.
Oh, okay.
Sorey, why don’t we go into town too?
Are those...
When word got out of the appearance of the Shepherd,
the citizens began putting up banners with the mark of the Shepherd.
I suppose that deep down, they, too, were waiting for the Shepherd to come.
What’s wrong?
No, it’s just...
When you put it that way, it makes me a little nervous.
Oh?
You’re actually capable of getting nervous?
I guess so.
Thanks for the ride, Alisha.
You’re welcome.
Well, I’ll see you later.
Shall we go, then?
Sorey!
I feel a little nauseated.
Were you lying earlier when you said you felt better?
I really did feel better in the morning.
But as we got closer to town, it slowly got worse.
What you’re feeling is the malevolence all around us.
This...
is malevolence?
But it feels like a separate malevolence is mixed in.
Where is it coming from?
I can’t tell.
You should be able to now, Sorey.
Concentrate and try to feel it.
It’s here.
If you feel all right...
I’m fine now.
I still feel a little sick, but it’s not as bad as before.
I want to know why the ruins here are full of malevolence.
Your Highness...
We ask that you hand over this so-called "Shepherd" that you are sheltering in your estate.
Hand over?
What do you mean?
He has immense power.
Do you not agree that it would be in our best interests to have him under control?
I decline.
You would deny the collective will of the council?
I have no intention of handing the Shepherd over to you!
This is definitely a door.
But there doesn’t seem to be any sort of keyhole anywhere.
So that means...
It’s a sealed door.
It was sealed?
I’m guessing that whatever is beyond this door is something the citizens shouldn’t see.
If it was locked, there should be a key or something to unlock it.
Is this it?
You two really know a lot about ancient ruins.
We’ve loved exploring ruins ever since we were kids.
Look, Sorey!
The crest of Hyland!
Oh, crap!
What is it?!
I forgot to return this to Alisha.
But that just might be what we need to break the seal.
Lucky break, huh?
Let’s go!
This is impressive.
Yeah.
This is no ordinary malevolence.
That was surprising.
It’s a dragon statue.
Aren’t dragons...
Calamity incarnate, harbingers of destruction...
Symbols of ill fortune.
To build a dragon statue and put it here...
There’s definitely something wrong with these ruins.
The malevolence is much stronger here too.
Do you think it’s coming from the statue?
No...
The malevolence is coming from something else in here.
Could it be...
a hellion?
Above us?!
Wh-What is that?
A bat?!
What are they?!
They’re bats that turned into hellions.
Sorey!
Got it!
I got them!
Mikleo!
Are you okay, Mikleo?!
Yeah!
There’s no end to them!
Sorey, can you disperse the hellions one more time?
I’ll purify them with my flames.
Okay!
Lailah!
Crimson flames, spring forth! Dancing ember!
Flare Vortex!
You did it, Lailah!
Sorey, how are you holding up?
I’m fine.
Entering into a contract with me has placed a great burden upon you.
If you need me to lighten your burden, don’t hesitate to ask. I can always go inside.
Inside?
Whoa!
Do you see?
This is what I mean by going inside.
I-I get it!
You just surprised me.
In the future, you may enter pacts with other seraphim too.
And in turn, they will grant you immense powers.
But please don’t forget that it’ll take a toll on your body.
When you start feeling weak, you can keep me inside.
All right. I’ll do that.
Sorey...
I know.
The malevolence isn’t gone from the ruins yet.
I can feel it.
The source of the malevolence is deeper inside.
What is this?
What...
is this place?
This is...
the truth behind these ruins.
Lailah?
You know something, don’t you?
In life, they rebelled against the powers that be, and were killed here in secret.
Their regrets and deep-seated hatred turned into malevolence.
Though their bodies withered away, the malevolence lingered and gave birth to hellions.
But why? Why here?!
Even in Hyland, there are things that must be kept hidden from the public.
Like these deaths.
Does Alisha know about this?
I see.
So you wanted me to see this.
What the Shepherd must quell is the source of all malevolence, the being who gives rise to the hellions:
The Lord of Calamity.
The Lord of Calamity?
He begets hellions with the overwhelming malevolence he possesses.
Given enough time, the Lord of Calamity can even permanently alter the world itself.
Such is the calamity he brings.
So it’s the duty of the Shepherd to find and put a stop to him.
You still have so much to learn.
If you face the Lord of Calamity as you are now, you will be overwhelmed by his domain.
The answers you seek are those you must discover for yourself, Sorey.
Answers of your own that you will not regret.
Answers of my own?
Forget not your duty, but be not a slave to it either.
I want you to travel the world and discover all sorts of things.
Only then can you take the answers you have found for yourself
and make a stand against the Lord of Calamity.
It’s not that tricky a concept.
Basically, let’s take a trip around the world.
Sorey, water!
Water? But how?
Oh, no... How can the malevolence have seeped into the earth beneath Ladylake?
Sorey, we can’t stay here!
Oh, crap! The ceiling!
Now!
The land itself is screaming!
It’s screaming in pain from the malevolence!
Let’s just get out of here!
Thanks, you guys!
Keep moving!
Lailah, is the malevolence causing this too?
Yes!
But this isn’t any ordinary malevolence!
Sorey, look!
I see you’re resolute even in your inflexibility.
I’m sorry.
You don’t have to apologize.
Your integrity is what will guide Ladylake in the right direction.
That’s what I believe.
Having said that, Bartlow’s goal isn’t just to capture the Shepherd.
Yes, his true goal is to remove me from the monarchy.
If you’re aware, then there’s nothing more for me to say.
But Bartlow has something up his sleeve.
You mean the situation in Marlind?
I’m still more than willing to handle it.
Yes, it’s true Marlind is suffering from a plague.
If someone must go, I want to do whatever I can.
Don’t carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.
I’m worried about you.
Lady Maltran...
But these winds are awfully strong.
I hope they don’t portend disaster.
Alisha!
It can’t be!

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 05 [7321A109]

From that day forward, the world changed.
It became a hell where humans and beasts, possessed by demons, feasted on people.
My heart was frozen from despair and hopelessness.
All it knew was the taste of bloodied flesh...
and hatred for one man.
Where is he?
You’ve fed on daemons and persevered in this darkness for many years.
Do you hate him that much,
Velvet Crowe?
What’s his malak doing here?
Where is Artorius?!
You must hurry.
I broke through several barriers in order to get here.
The exorcists have surely noticed.
If you wish to leave this place, there’s no time to waste.
Praetor exorcists!
Out of my way.
You are a daemon-eater. You cannot defeat an exorcist.
Velvet!
This way!
What?
What are you doing?
The barriers you broke through are this way, right?
We’ll go back there. I’m not stupid.
And here I thought you only knew how to charge headfirst into battle.
It seems I was mistaken.
Surprised I chose to hide here instead?
Yes.
Artorius is my only goal.
I’ll do whatever it takes to get to him.
This is useless.
This must be where they store what they’ve confiscated from the daemons.
That is a Tempest Blade!
What’s it doing in a place like this?
It might be too big for me.
Are you sure? The Tempest Blade is a fine sword.
It doesn’t matter how great it is if I can’t use it.
Many things have happened since your imprisonment here three years ago.
The world has changed a great deal.
Don’t you want to know what’s happened?
The exorcists are many now, and they’re organizing a resistance against the daemons.
Tell me.
Where is Artorius?
In Logress, the royal capital in the sacred kingdom of Midgand.
There may be exorcists standing ready outside.
Are you sure you don’t want to know?
You aren’t curious about what you saw that night?
That night...
The ritual he performed changed the world.
Many malakim descended.
And the exorcists they obeyed stopped the flood of daemons.
As the leader of the Abbey, the organization of exorcists,
he has earned the trust of both the kingdom and its people.
He is the people’s shield, the sword that hunts daemons.
Artorius Collbrande is now hailed as their savior.
He acquired his power by sacrificing a child.
Yes, but he is not yet complete.
He can still be killed.
I thought you were one of the malakim that followed him...
Seres.
I was.
So what happened?
I will tell you after we escape from this place.
Listen carefully to what I say.
Or else.
What’s so funny?
You sure are unlucky.
What?
You’re trying to break out, aren’t you?
An escapee trying to break out by taking another escapee hostage?
Talk about irony.
Then you’re...
The same as you.
No wonder the place is crawling with exorcists.
So you’re the reason!
This man is a daemon!
I see.
You two aren’t your average humans either.
Oh, well. So long.
There could be hordes of exorcists waiting outside.
I have to find my partner before I get out of here.
I’ll just snatch a guard and get some information out of him.
That’s it!
Tempest Blade!
That’s my partner!
This is your partner?
Well, it’s mine now.
I don’t mess around when it comes to my Tempest Blade.
We’ll see about that.
You...
Just one question.
Can you use this thing?
Of course. It’s my partner, after all.
Can you defeat exorcists with it?
Don’t make me laugh.
This dull dagger I stole is more than enough for the likes of them.
All right.
I’ll give this back to you.
On one condition.
What?
So what do you want me to do?
Do you have a ship ready?
So you knew you were on an island.
Yes.
I know this is a prison island where daemons are held.
My prey told me as they begged for their lives.
There are two ports, one on each side of the island.
My ship is on the back side.
What are the chances there’ll be exorcists waiting for us there?
Given the current situation, we should assume the worst.
If I was in charge, I’d send all the ships out to sea to trap us here.
That way, there’d be no way for us to escape.
Then what should we do?
I say we whittle down their forces.
That’ll make it easier for me to take a ship by force.
And that’s where my partner and I come in.
I don’t know much about this prison.
I only know that I was held in the underground level
and that approximately one thousand daemons were in the level above me.
How did you find out?
Would you like to know how many daemons I was forced to fight each day?
Judging from what you told me, this level contains individual cells.
So...
We’ll release all the prisoners and create a riot.
You won’t give them a chance to send the ships out to sea.
Sound good?
Yes.
Now you just have to separate and whittle down the enemy forces as much as possible.
I’m a man of my word.
I figured you’d be the type to thrive in chaos.
He’s strong.
This is all it took to bring them down?
It’s really dull too.
I’m good to go.
You can start any time.
Seres!
Turn right at the end of this corridor.
That’s the route to the upper level.
That’s for giving this back to me.
We must turn back.
As a daemon-eater, your powers are limited to devouring.
You won’t survive a fall from this height.
I didn’t expect them so soon.
They’re exorcists. I won’t be able to hold them for long.
It’s not as high as the shrine where that child was dropped.
Are you that determined?
You are strong.
Almost as if you’ve forged an oath.
What?
By upholding an oath that restrains your words and actions, you may obtain extraordinary powers.
The more restraints you put on yourself, the greater the power you may wield.
In a way, such an oath is...
A curse.
Let’s go.
That banner...
It’s the crest of Legate exorcists.
Then he must be aboard that ship.
Artorius...
You would go that far?
Your journey, and mine, is about to become even more difficult.
Praetor exorcists are nothing compared to Legate exorcists.
Knowing this, will you still fight?
That goes without saying.
The raw emotions that this man has evoked in you...
Will they bring hope to this world?
Or will they spread malevolence?
Those two possibilities will cross in the future.

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 06 [DEEEC6C9]

Oscar...
Seres.
Imagine that, a praetor exorcist of your caliber being dispatched to this island.
Indeed, Lord Artorius considers this a very serious matter.
However...
I never expected a malak like you to betray Lord Artorius.
I’m quite shocked.
So you’re the daemon-eater.
I see.
I’m taking your ship, and I’m bringing Artorius down.
Your words deserve certain death.
Lord Artorius himself bestowed upon me this holy blade.
Think you can handle it?
You may be a daemon-eater, but you’re still a woman.
We will treat you chivalrously...
So be it, insolent daemon.
I am Oscar Dragonia, a praetor exorcist from the Abbey in the sacred kingdom of Midgand.
I will subdue you as per Lord Artorius’s orders.
You are a beast indeed.
However, as long as I’m here, there’s no way you can win.
Your ferocity almost made me forget why I’m here.
I didn’t come all this way to kill you.
You will return to the prison.
Your purpose is to continue devouring daemons...
Daemon-eater.
The only reason I live is to see that man dead.
I’ve devoured daemons day in and day out.
And to what end?
Your hatred for us is unfounded.
That is your role.
The world has deemed it so.
The same way it deemed my brother’s role was to be a sacrifice?!
Yes.
Every person has a role in life.
Lord Artorius was the one who showed that to the world.
A world that sacrifices people’s lives?
I cannot abide that.
I don’t care what happens to this world,
if it was built on the sacrifice of my brother’s life.
I will never...
stand for it!
Then I suppose you won’t return to your cell willingly.
What is that?
A dragon.
It’s the first time I’ve seen one too.
So that’s...
But what’s a dragon doing here?
The daemon-eater?
It’s coming! Shoot it!
Damn that daemon!
I can’t believe that’s a daemon!
Whether you believe it or not, it’s here!
In the end, that is what becomes of human malevolence.
That’s why Lord Artorius created this world.
That reasoning is...
Here it comes!
You monster!
After seeing this, do you still doubt Lord Artorius, Seres?!
I have no intention of living under someone else’s ideals.
I...
will follow my own path.
Don’t make me laugh.
Such words ring hollow, coming from you!
The remaining ship...
Who dares disturb my slumber?
What?
Not even an apology?
What’s the matter with you people?
I was having such a pleasant nap.
And I thought I’d died and gone to hell!
And it was a prison hell!
Then I thought I escaped prison, and this time, we’re sinking?!
Can you understand my misery?
Hear me!
I have traveled the world and more!
Dragons are trifling things to me, the great sorceress!
H-Hey, where are you going?!
Now’s my chance to commandeer the ship and escape.
If the ship gets destroyed, I won’t be able to get off the island.
That would be bad!
Heed my call, malak!
The barrier...
Dammit!
I’ll take him on!
I won’t let anything stop me here.
Not until I bring that bastard down.
Velvet Crowe.
There’s only one way to get out of this predicament and reach Artorius.
I’m going to bet my life on you!
What?
It’s using an arte?!
Well, now I’m in a bind.
Come to think of it, I don’t know how to sail a ship.
So I can’t let you eat her.
I’m Rokurou, and I need a ship too.
So allow me to assist you.
Rokurou, huh? All right, I’m counting on you!
Hear me!
I am the great sorceress!
Mazhigigika Miludin do Din Nolurun Dou!
Also known as Magilou! And don’t you forget it!
Why?
It is all to bring down Artorius.
You can...
Please devour me.
What are you saying?
I am under a contract that binds my powers with my own life.
Devour me and take my powers.
The power to move forward.
Why would you go so far?
Like you, a fire burns in my heart.
A fire that I cannot extinguish no matter how hard I try.
Laphi’s comb?
Please hurry... before my life ends.
I won’t thank you or apologize.
There is no need.
It is my wish too.
This isn’t good.
That arte... It can’t be!
You devoured Seres?!
I’m sorry,
but I cannot let a monster like you loose on the world!
It’s Velvet.
That’s my name.
Make sure Artorius knows.
I am Velvet Crowe!
Daemons, malakim, exorcists... I will devour them all!
I am the daemon-eater...
who’ll bring calamity!
The wind is picking up.
You two! Where shall we go?
Anywhere is fine with me!
I go where the wind takes me!
Do you know, Laphi?
Why do birds fly across the skies?
They have to fly in order to find food.
And to escape from predators.
That’s true.
But you know what I think?
Birds with wings...
Brother...
What are you doing?
This is the true way of things.
And I, the exorcist Artorius Collbrande, shall stop the pain.
Artorius!
Set sail for Midgand.
The royal capital...
Logress is my destination.
I have no idea what lies ahead, but that’s what makes life interesting.

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 07 [19106A47]

Lailah! There’s something inside the tornado!
Oh, no...
It can’t be...
A dragon!
It’s on the move!
Alisha! Alisha!
Alisha, it’s coming this way!
Guards! Where are the guards?!
It’s heading toward the palace!
Alisha!
Allow anyone seeking shelter into the palace!
Understood?
Yes, ma’am!
What is that?
Sorey!
It’s too dangerous!
So, do you have a plan?
No, not really, but I can’t just...
Sorey...
Are we in the clear?
The dragon is a symbol of ill omen that begets death and destruction.
Hey, Lailah, is that dragon also a manifestation of malevolence?
Most likely, yes.
I can hardly believe my eyes, though.
A dragon actually appeared.
Sorey!
Alisha!
Thank you for saving Ladylake!
No, I didn’t do...
Sorey, look!
The dragon disappeared!
It’s the Shepherd!
Master Shepherd! Master Shepherd!
The Shepherd!
Wait! Calm down, please!
Oh, Shepherd!
Thank you!
You stopped that dragon with your powers, didn’t you?
I didn’t do anything.
Such modesty.
Shepherd, I have a request to ask of you.
As a token of our appreciation, won’t you join us for dinner?
What do you say?
Lord Bartlow, what are you up to?
Why, it’s just common courtesy.
What’s so strange about offering the Shepherd dinner for his valiant efforts?
Very well. I accept your offer.
The Shepherd has accepted my invitation!
Sorey...
Will you come too?
I’m sorry. Can you stop for a bit?
Lailah...
Yes...
Malevolence hasn’t consumed Ladylake yet, but there’s not much time.
That’s the feeling I get.
We have to do something.
Welcome!
Please stay right there, Princess Alisha.
I will escort you.
Escort?
I have a message from His Majesty the King...
"Come immediately to the palace."
No one told me-
His Majesty awaits.
It seems they don’t want Alisha’s presence.
Forgive me, Sorey, but...
I’ll be fine.
Master Shepherd...
Welcome, Shepherd.
Hello.
What is your relation with Lady Alisha, if I may ask?
We’re just friends.
Friends?
We haven’t known each other for very long, but I consider her a good friend.
I see. Can we be friends too?
You want to be friends?
Yes.
That’s not the impression I get.
Here’s a toast.
Sorey...
Don’t blindly accept everything they give you.
It’s pretty good.
Yeah, this tastes good.
Is it to your liking? It’s the pride of Hyland.
But with the recent disasters, I’m afraid the harvest has suffered.
Why did you want to see me?
What do you plan to do now?
We believe it would be for the best if the Shepherd were to lend us his strength.
I’m sorry. I have other plans.
May I ask what they are?
I’m gonna go after the dragon.
Go after? And then what?
I don’t know what I can do, but...
If a dragon is a symbol of ill omen, perhaps therein lies the key to fixing the world.
Sorey...
Alisha!
There you are.
The sun is setting. I guess we’ll call it a day.
Sorey, I’m being sent to Marlind.
It’s a direct order from His Majesty.
Does that Bartlow guy have anything to do with this?
I don’t know, but even if he does...
It doesn’t change the fact that Marlind is suffering from an epidemic.
Was it wise to let the Shepherd leave like that?
If he’s leaving Ladylake, there won’t be any bloodshed here.
Then what about the war preparations?
We proceed as planned, of course.
Lailah, can we talk?
What’s wrong, Mikleo?
I was watching Sorey today, and it got me thinking.
Since becoming a Shepherd, Sorey’s been facing his destiny head-on.
Do you feel like he’s climbing out of your reach?
I don’t know. Maybe.
So what would you like to do from now on?
I don’t know that either.
But even so...
I know we can’t stay like this forever.
That’s right.
Sorey has become a Shepherd, so what am I supposed to do?
I left home with the idea of traveling with him.
Will you return to Elysia?
No, although that thought has crossed my mind.
If Sorey’s going to travel the world as the Shepherd,
I can’t just let him go alone.
You really love Sorey, don’t you, Mikleo?
We’re stuck with each other.
You want to know what you can do for Sorey?
I might have just the thing.
Lailah, we have to go after Mikleo right away!
What if a hellion appears? He can’t handle it alone!
He should know that by now!
Why’d he go alone?!
I guess he must’ve had his reasons for going alone.
Are you sure you don’t have to go after him?
Yeah.
I have things to do if I’m to become a real Shepherd.
If you leave the town of Ladylake and keep heading north, you’ll come to a huge lake.
There you’ll find the Galahad Ruins.
Inside the ruins is an armatus that can suppress evil spirits.
An armatus?
It’s like what the Sacred Blade is to me.
A sacred relic.
If you are able to obtain it...
I will acquire the power to assist Sorey.
I believe so.
You’re leaving now?
Oh, Sorey!
The plague waits for no one.
Here, Alisha.
This is...
I’m sorry. I meant to return it sooner.
Mikleo found it in the ruins.
Thank you so much! Words can’t express my gratitude.
It’s very precious to me.
Sorey, if you’re able, would you be willing to escort us for a bit?
Even just part of the way?
Sure thing!
For the first time, the people have seen a dragon.
A creature that crossed the veil of legends, into reality.
So the legend holds clues?
Yes. Have you heard of Rayfalke Spiritcrest?
It’s mentioned often in dragon folklore.
A dangerously high mountain where people rarely go.
All right, then that’s where I’ll go.
They’re called trangelongs and are found only in these woods.
Are they dangerous?
Don’t worry. They’re gentle creatures.
Damn, what kind of hellion is it?
A snake? Or lizard?
Eat as much as you’d like.
Thanks.
What about Lailah? Does she truly not need to eat?
She says not to worry.
Then have something to drink, at least.
I found some ripe fruits nearby.
I grated them and added hot water.
It’s so sour! But wait...
See?
Yeah, this is great!
Sorey...
Alisha, are you ready?
Alisha?
Lailah!
Thank you, Alisha.
Don’t mention it.
Trangelongs never attack humans!
Sorey...
I know. That’s...
a hellion!
After we pass two more towns and cross a large river, we’ll arrive at Marlind.
What’s Marlind like?
It’s the most populated city after Ladylake and serves as the secondary capital.
It’s a very cultured city with the highest literacy rate in the nation.
It used to be my father’s pride.
Used to?
Are the effects of the epidemic that bad?
I’m not certain how much we can do by taking a group of doctors there.
Can I ask about you, Sorey?
Sure.
You told me once that you had never left Elysia.
Yeah.
When I was just a baby, there was a great fire.
And Gramps saved me from it.
I’ve lived in Elysia ever since.
I wasn’t able to talk to him, but he must be a great man.
I guess. We were all protected by his blessing.
I know how important that is now that I’m out here.
Sorey, you’re...
You’re human, right?
Of course!
So were you always able to see seraphim?
Now that you mention it...
I guess I have.
Gramps said I learned to see them by living with them.
I want to know more about seraphim.
Will you teach me?
It says in the Celestial Record,
"In ancient times, people could see and hear the seraphim and coexisted with them."
Seraphim existed in towns and villages, as earth in the land,
as wind in the sky, water in the rivers,
fire in the hearths, protecting the balance of life.
Earth, wind, water, fire...
Yeah. Seraphim aren’t omnipotent either. They have their strengths and weaknesses.
Lailah is a fire seraph, and Mikleo excels at controlling water.
But we are no longer able to see and hear the seraphim.
Why?
Is that why this age of calamity was born?
Man lost their reverence for seraphim.
Their hearts became consumed with suspicion, wickedness, and conflict.
That’s what Gramps told me.
Then...
Does that mean humans are the cause of calamities?
I don’t know.
But it’s a fact that this world is overflowing with malevolence.
And there’s no mistaking that the calamities are getting worse.
You want to make a world where humans and seraphim can live together.
That’s what you said in Elysia.
Yeah.
Strange how I remember that so clearly.
You must believe that because you spent a long time living with seraphim.
You weren’t lonely, even though you were the only human.
You’re perfectly suited to be a Shepherd.
That’s true. I never felt lonely.
Because I had everyone.
Because I had Mikleo.
If Lailah’s right, the ruins should be around here.
I’m not gonna lose to you.
We’re getting close.
That’s Rayfalke.
Let’s go.
I win again today, Sorey.
I win today, Mikleo.
The moon is beautiful tonight.
Somewhere, Mikleo is gazing at the same moon.

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 08 [B47757AE]

The malevolence is getting thicker.
We should proceed with caution.
An umbrella?
So...
Are you ever going to let me go?
Edna!
Oh, Lailah. Long time no see.
If you don’t want to die, you should probably move.
A hellion!
How unfortunate.
I felt a disturbance, so I just came to check it out,
not pick a fight with a hellion.
Uh, thanks.
It’s not over.
Lailah, cover me!
So he really is a Shepherd.
Sorey!
It’s not working?
It’s not that.
The malevolence is too strong.
It died?
That was embarrassing,
kid.
Zaveid!
Zaveid?
So this kid is the new Shepherd?
Did you do that?
Hellions belong in Hell.
That’s my style.
He possesses a special weapon and bullets that can destroy hellions.
This thing’s one-of-a-kind.
My precious partner, if you will.
There was no need to kill it.
We could’ve purified it!
Oh, that’s rich.
I can always count on the Shepherd and his posse to be a bunch of goody two-shoes, can’t I?
But...
Death is a kind of salvation... for some.
What’s that supposed to mean?
H-Hey...
Zaveid.
I told you not to come here anymore.
And I told you, Edna...
I won’t stop until I kill him.
Just...
leave us alone.
Is this the domain? It can’t be!
Malevolence can corrupt a domain this far?
It’s him.
Brother...
I can’t believe it.
Oh, yes.
This dragon is Edna’s older brother.
Eizen.
Hey! If you don’t want to be eaten, get out of here now!
Lailah!
We have to armatize!
If he used to be a seraph, I bet I can purify him.
No, Sorey!
You idiot!
Once a seraph has become a dragon, even the flames of purification can’t save them!
What?! So Edna’s brother...
He’s beyond saving.
Is there really nothing we can do?
It’s impossible.
I’ve tried to find another way, but there isn’t one.
That’s why I have to send him to Hell myself!
Stop!
Edna!
Leave my brother alone.
Sorey, it’s too dangerous here!
But...
Take Edna and get the hell out of here!
Let’s go.
It’s just like before.
Hellions!
I need the power of purification, after all.
I can’t give up.
Sorey needs me!
We’re safe now. I think he left.
How long are you going to hold my hand?
Oh, sorry!
So what do you want?
Why did you come here?
We followed the legend of the dragons.
Why? Did you come seeking fame as a dragon slayer?
No, Edna.
A dragon came to Ladylake.
A dragon in the city?
That wasn’t my brother.
Yes, I know.
Then why did you come here?
I wanted to know more.
People say our world is in an Age of Chaos.
If dragons are symbols of destruction, I thought tracking one down would help me learn more.
I’m the Shepherd now.
And I still have so much to learn.
I see.
Well, you learned something about dragons today, right?
I think you’ve learned enough, so go-
Yes, I understand dragons better now.
But now I’m thinking, how can we save the dragons?
How can we save Eizen?
Lailah, is this kid an idiot?
He’s a real straight-edge. It’s a good thing.
Idiots everywhere.
Edna...
Why did Eizen become a dragon?
I don’t know.
One day, he just left, and the next time I saw him, he was a dragon.
He was a weirdo who loved humans.
He probably spent too much time with them.
I thought there had to be some way to cure his condition.
But I haven’t found anything. It’s impossible.
In the end...
He was right.
I have to kill him.
But you don’t want to kill him, do you?
Earlier, you tried to stop Zaveid.
I...
Shepherds and dragons were nothing more than legends, but they really do exist.
There are still so many legends which have yet to be uncovered in this world.
There must be a way to quell the dragons somewhere.
What was that?
Eizen! Zaveid!
Brother...
Zaveid!
It’s them again.
Don’t come any closer!
He’s not Eizen anymore!
He doesn’t recognize anyone!
He’s forgotten everything!
All the fights we had.
All the times we cheated death on our travels.
All the times we got wasted.
You’ve forgotten everything!
Eizen!
Stop, Brother!
Lailah, lend me your power.
Dragons can’t be purified.
I know that.
But I still want to do something.
No...
I have to do something.
Brother...
Sorey, we can’t...
Not yet. He’s still...
You bastard...
Stop, Brother!
Stop hurting others...
Edna! Get out of here!
Brother...
Stop!
Eizen...
You...
Brother...
Zaveid...
Hey, Zaveid...
I know. It’s about Eizen, right?
After seeing something like that...
Zaveid...
But know this, kid.
I’ve traveled all over the world,
and not once have I heard anything about bringing a dragon back.
But then again...
The world’s a big place, so who knows?
I mean, it can’t hurt to look around, right?
Yeah!
Edna!
When you want to give up on him, just give me the word.
And I’ll come right away.
That was my promise to him.
Finally, one less idiot.
Edna!
Okay, Lailah. Make me your Sub Lord.
Edna?
Sub Lord?
It’s an ancient pact that allows me to lend you my power.
You said you’d help Eizen.
So I’ll help you too.
You’re going to search for a way to save my brother, right?
Yeah! We’ll find it together!
I’m counting on you...
Sorey.
Same here, Edna!
Just you wait, Sorey!
What?!
What’s going on?
I don’t believe it.
Griflet Bridge is...

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 09 [7E0CBB80]

The bridge...
There’s no way we can get to Marlind.
We should send medicine at least!
With these currents, we won’t be able to get a boat across.
Alisha!
There has to be another way to get across!
That’s it!
We must reach Marlind posthaste!
Edna...
Don’t worry about it.
Just remember that you promised to save my brother.
Of course.
Sorey...
That’s why you want to go to Rolance?
Is that weird?
Not really. I’m just surprised your reasons are so frivolous.
The Celestial Record is like scripture to Sorey.
Supposedly, in Rolance, there are many ruins that used to enshrine dragons as gods.
Did you get that from the book too?
Yep. That’s why I want to travel the world and see.
Even if it ends up being a waste of time, it’ll still progress my goals.
Fine, I’ll tag along.
Sorey...
All this time, you’ve faced down and purified both hellions and malevolence within the land.
Yeah.
I want to ask you one more time.
What does purification mean to you?
Huh?
What does it mean to me?
You’re the Shepherd, and you don’t even know that?
You’ll encounter many different kinds of hellions on your journey.
They come in all shapes and sizes.
I know you have the resolve to purify them.
I never doubted that about you.
But if you throw yourself at hellions day after day,
you yourself might succumb to the malevolence.
Then what should I do?
What’s important is to use your imagination.
My imagination?
Yes.
Imagine this fire is a hellion and try to purify it.
You must understand the malevolence.
Only then will you understand what you must do as the Shepherd.
Not even close.
This is harder than it looks.
You’ve never purified a person who has turned into a hellion before.
You need training for that too.
Yeah.
He definitely has the potential to become a great Shepherd.
But he’s driven only by a very pure desire to help others, which makes him fragile as well.
Mikleo...
I fear we’ll be needing you very soon.
No!
Spare me!
A Normin seraph?
Normin Power!
D-Did you do that just now?
Y-Yeah...
Man, I’m pooped.
That really hit the spot!
So... Mikleo, was it?
You really saved my butt back there!
Y-Yeah...
You’re a Normin?
That’s right.
I’m Atakk. Nice to meet you.
I’m surprised you know about us, considering how young you are.
My foster parent told me.
I heard that in the past, humans and seraphim were able to get along better because of the Normin.
That’s right! We Normin may be weak on our own,
but we have the ability to boost the power of other seraphim!
Yeah, you really surprised me earlier.
But that didn’t purify the hellion.
Atakk...
If you live in this forest, you should leave while you can.
I guess it’s time.
What about you? Where are you going?
I...
I plan to go to the base of that cloud.
That’s no ordinary cloud.
I’ve got a bad feeling about it.
It’s been there for a few days now.
But what’re you gonna do when you get there?
I must find my friend.
Friend?
I know!
Until I find a new home, I’ll follow you!
If we join forces, we can beat the hellions like we did back there!
What do you say?
Sure, I don’t mind.
Pleased to have you, Atakk.
Huh?
Shepherd Sorey! Princess Alisha has an urgent message for you!
Griflet Bridge has been...
The bridge?
Thanks for the horse.
Please be careful.
Alisha...
It stopped raining?
What the...
This is no ordinary storm.
We can investigate this later!
We have to focus on delivering this medicine!
Princess!
Let’s go.
We must first deliver the medicine to Marlind.
We can worry about moving the troops after the weather’s cleared up.
For further orders...
What’s going on?
What is this rain?!
Sorey, look up!
A hellion?!
Is everyone okay?!
Shepherd?!
Stand back. It’s dangerous.
What’s an Oroboros doing here?!
Oroboros?
A powerful hellion.
This storm must be his doing.
I’ll protect these people.
All right!
Edna!
I guess I should show off my Sub Lord powers.
Let’s go!
Hephsin Yulind!
You seem to be able to use my powers well enough.
Yeah! Let’s finish this quick!
What?!
A dragon?!
No, that’s a drake.
A drake?
A younger hellion, not yet fully a dragon.
If it’s still a drake, it can be purified! Sorey!
We can’t purify it if we can’t get to it.
Damn!
You saved us yet again.
Lady Maltran...
Where is Alisha?
Alisha is taking a different road to Marlind.
I hope she’s safe.
The drake was heading for Marlind.
Hey, Edna, maybe you can use your power to...
Don’t be ridiculous. I don’t have any strength left.
But...
If the current slows down, I might be able to do something.
No kidding? You know Lailah?
What a coincidence.
You know Lailah?
Lailah and I have a bit of, uh, history together.
History?
Well, I can’t really talk about it. Not even with you.
It’s a sensitive man-woman kind of thing.
Sensitive, huh?
Whoa, what a huge river!
We’ll never get across this.
Mikleo...
Look at that.
What happened?
Is that...
Yes, it was like this since this morning.
This can only be the Shepherd’s doing.
What?!
The Shepherd?
He must’ve created those rocks to get across.
Yeah, a human definitely didn’t make that.
Sorey... Is this how strong you’ve become?
Well, let’s get going.
Your friend is waiting, right?
Yeah.
This is Marlind, the second largest city in Hyland?
It’s a mess.
The whole town is tainted with malevolence, almost as bad as my brother’s domain.
Sorey...
This plague is definitely caused by that drake.
Don’t worry.
You’ll feel better once the medicine kicks in.
Alisha!
Sorey! You came!
So this is Alisha?
Who was that?
Oh, that’s Edna. She’s a new...
You can hear her? We’re not even holding hands!
Oh, you’re right.
Sorey’s resonance must’ve improved.
Now people can hear the seraphim just by standing near Sorey.
Lailah!
Yes!
Alisha, I’m glad you’re well.
Yeah, I was worried.
Sorey...
I...
Alisha!
I can’t take this anymore.
The medicine I brought isn’t working.
No one’s getting better.
At this rate...
Everyone will...
I know.
I must get to the source.
It’s him!
There’s a hellion here?!
Yeah.
Alisha, what’s over there?
There’s a hill.
And a sacred tree known as the Great Tree.
It’s making its nest there.
Edna, is there a way to stop it from flying away again?
Let me try.
All right!
No way!
It’s more powerful than last time.
It’s on the verge of becoming an actual dragon!
If that happens, then Marlind will...
I won’t let it!
What is this malevolence?
It’s a drake!
Sorey must be fighting it!
It’s a hellion!
Atakk, help me!
Normin Power!
We did it!
If Mikleo was here...
Lailah!
Mikleo went to retrieve an armatus that’s a bow.
If only we had that...
Mikleo will come.
Huh?
He’s close. I just feel it.
So just hold out a little longer!
Lailah!
Sorey!
Sorey!
Lailah!
Mikleo!
A-Atakk?
What? That kid?
Mikleo, quick! The Sub Lord pact!
Do it, Lailah!
O ye born of the sacred currents of peace...
Here let our pact be forged, that my unquavering incandescence may be as thy purification.
Shouldst thou accept this burden, recite aloud your... Et cetera!
Mikleo! Give Sorey your true name!
He already knows!
You bet I do!
Luzrov Rulay!
Let’s do it, Mikleo!
Right!
I’ll give it everything I’ve got!
Break on through!
Azure Assault!

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 10 [7895BFCA]

I knew you’d come.
Where would you be without me?
You’re one to talk.
Oh?
You’ve become strong, Sorey.
A hard-working Shepherd, that one.
Purifying the water supply is the key to rebuilding Marlind.
I’m surprised water boy puts up with it.
That’s the foundation of their relationship.
I feel the air getting worse.
This is the place.
Then let’s begin.
Well, Mikleo?
Feels good. Let’s release now.
O Water, thou divine mother...
Grant us the power of purification.
The water just keeps going. There’s no end to this.
But we still have to do it, right?
Of course.
We’ve been at this for three days now.
Yeah.
We were able to make so much progress thanks to your affinity with water.
If it was just me, I wouldn’t get this far in a month.
Sounds good.
I’ll just watch you work for a month.
Oh, please.
Let’s go.
We were talking about how very Shepherd-like you’ve become.
Right, Edna?
Maybe.
He’s more like a...
A what?
Shepherd Sorey!
Shepherd Sorey! Shepherd Sorey!
I’m exhausted.
You didn’t even do anything.
I tagged along, right? You should thank me.
You little...
The name’s Edna, boy.
Come on, you two.
Alisha went out of her way to find us a place to relax.
Rohan, how are you feeling?
I’m much better, thanks to you all.
I’m glad.
I’m the one who should’ve protected Marlind as its seraph.
But I let myself be consumed by malevolence.
There was nothing you could do.
In this Age of Chaos, it’s extremely difficult for humans to coexist with seraphim.
Can you tell us what happened in Marlind?
I’m sorry, but I don’t remember much.
I think it started as something very small.
I believe someone stole a valuable tome.
I know what that’s like.
It was a small village, but I know what it’s like to lose a home.
And it always started with the smallest things.
But it would quickly get blown out of proportion.
Oh, you must be a Normin.
Right you are.
Long ago, Normins were everywhere, and we all worked together.
How could I have forgotten that...
Seraphs are to towns as Normins are to villages.
We were like the coordinators.
Is that so?
There used to be so many of us.
But now we’re all scattered.
Sorey, I brought dinner.
Thank you.
Do you mind if I join you?
Of course not!
I can’t thank you enough.
The well water is completely different now.
According to Lailah, the rain seeps through the trees and soil...
It’ll take about a year for the purification to really be complete.
It must be very difficult to balance an entire ecosystem.
Seraphim, I thank you for all you’ve done.
The citizens welcome you with open arms.
I’m sure they’d love to live alongside you.
Please continue to lend us your aid.
How’s the city?
It’s still too early to celebrate just yet.
But the people are beginning to smile again.
Hope is very important, after all.
Is there anything else we can help with?
Are you okay? You seem tired.
The same goes for you, Alisha.
A hard-working Shepherd, this one.
Are you sure?
I’m fine. I have a lot of stamina.
She’s amazing too.
That is a great thing about Sorey.
But...
But what?
No, it’s nothing.
Hot!
Sorey...
The supplies for reconstruction are starting to arrive from Ladylake.
Can you help us sort through them?
Sure thing.
Here you go.
And that’s the last one.
Emergency supplies will be evenly divided among the people.
Let it be known that I will harshly punish anyone who tries to monopolize these supplies.
All right, get to work.
Alisha’s working so hard.
The princess doesn’t have to do all this herself.
Isn’t that what makes Alisha special?
My, you seem to know her rather intimately.
Do you have to make it sound weird?
That’s...
Hey, you there.
We’re the Sparrowfeathers.
We have the food from Ladylake.
Where should we put it?
Thank you!
Hey! Aren’t you the princess of Ladylake?
Out here, I’m just a knight.
I’ve heard good things about the Sparrowfeathers.
And I’ve heard about you, Princess.
Thank you for your business.
Hi there!
Hey! Long time no see!
Oh, you know her, Sorey?
Yeah, I met her at Ladylake. She’s...
It’s Rose.
Looks like you became the Shepherd.
Do you remember you owe me one?
Yeah...
What should I ask for?
You are the Shepherd, after all.
Just because I’m a Shepherd doesn’t mean I have money.
Well, I don’t expect much from you.
But it seems you have friends in high places!
C’mon, I’m just kidding!
So? Where should we unload?
Oh, right up ahead, please.
Got it.
Alisha!
What’s the matter, Lady Maltran?
Sirel wants to talk to you.
Sirel? Is it urgent?
Yes.
But...
It’s all right if he listens in.
He’s Shepherd Sorey.
I’m Sirel, one of Princess Alisha’s personal cavalry.
Princess...
Lord Bartlow has ordered troops to Glaivend Basin.
Glaivend?!
That’s the buffer zone between us and Rolance.
Fearing the worse, I sent Sirel and the others to keep an eye on things.
But I never thought he’d go this far.
I’ve heard rumors that the higher-ranking officers have been told to prepare for war.
War?!
With you out of the way, Bartlow can do anything he wants.
But why now?
He conveniently pushed you out of picture.
And emergency supplies are running dangerously low.
Perhaps...
He wants to replenish our supplies through war?
What is he going to do after stealing from them?
A second unit is being dispatched today from Ladylake.
There’s no time.
No, I have to try and stop them.
Alisha...
I’m coming too.
I’m against it.
What’s with you, Lailah?
You were the one that told me to travel the world and see different things.
Sorey, you don’t know what it’s like for a human to be truly consumed by malevolence.
The battlefield is...
That’s... a hellion?!
The malevolence...
Is this...
Yes...
This is what malevolence born from a human feels like.
It’s heavy and hard to grasp.
Here...
This... is a person?!
Yes...
But to the average person, he looks human too.
You should be able to see it too, Sorey.
His original human form...
He’s a...
As the Shepherd, you must purify him.
Stop!
You sinner!
Sorey!
No! You can’t let that hellion run loose in the city!
I can’t let him spread that malevolence.
Sorey, are you all right?
I never thought purifying a human who became a hellion would be like this.
It’s because purifying a human means accepting that person’s malevolence into the Shepherd.
You are the only one who can do that.
Not even we seraphim can help.
The Shepherd is always alone.
Sorey?
This isn’t over.
We need more horses!
Gather as many as you can!
How is the rescue squad?
We’re awaiting confirmation.
And the medical unit?
Them too.
Please hurry.
Yes, ma’am.
My squad is waiting to join me here.
Do you have the weapons and rations?
Hiding it from Lord Bartlow was difficult.
Thank you, Sirel.
This is the only way to get to Glaivend from Ladylake.
We’ll cut through this mountain and make up time.
Returning from duty, ma’am.
How was it?
We were able to borrow thirteen horses.
Good.
I want to take every soldier. Get them ready.
Yes ma’am!
I know we were just getting started on rebuilding this city.
But I need a sizable force to act as a deterrent.
Time is of the essence.
Be ready to leave at first light.
Lady Maltran!
Alisha...
What’s that?
Look.
It’s a great spear, given to me by an influential citizen.
Now I can follow you into the battlefield and protect you.
Lady Maltran...
Thank you!
I’ll see you later.
Farewell.
Is this...
It’s getting dark.
Perhaps he’s on a dare.
If you’re scared, I can hold your hand.
You’re one to talk.
Mikleo Notwaterboy.
Meebo for short.
Not again!
Meebo, Meebo, Meebo.
Sorey, why are we here?
This is...
the grave of the man killed by the hellion.
This man’s soul was not able to find peace...
I, Shepherd Sorey, purify this sorrowful spirit.
The those two got in an argument.
One of them raised his blade, and the other tried to protect himself.
But it was the one who escalated things that died, and the surviving one became a hellion.
The one with the weapon and the one who forced his hand both had their reasons.
And...
Strange...
Where are the guards?
I don’t have time for you.
Regardless of who is responsible for the conflict or the reason...
Their family and loved ones will grieve.
Grief leads to hatred, which seeps into the land.
And that is the cause of malevolence.
Not even a hint of fear.
You really are no ordinary princess.
I wish I could be an ordinary princess.
But I’ve seen too many things in the Age of Chaos.
Stop testing me.
Very impressive, Princess.
If you really want to do this, I have my own plans.
Why’re you going to the battlefield?
To stop the war.
You think you can stop it?
I don’t just think I can stop it.
I will stop it.
Even if the enemy is armed and standing before them,
you will tell your men to stand down?
Really now?
If necessary.
So you’ll really stick to this policy of non-aggression, no matter what?
Yes.
The people who die because of your non-aggression policy are never coming back.
I won’t let you sacrifice the people for your ideals.
Is that why you’ve come for me?
That is what we, the Scattered Bones, believe.
We cannot deny the possibility that one death will lead to more hatred.
Then I shall become that first death!
You don’t seem to be lying.
Of course not.
Hold on.
You raised your blade against a princess of the kingdom.
I hope you are prepared.
Are you gonna capture me and see me hanged?
I want you to come to the battlefield and bear witness to my actions.
You can’t see clearly with that on.
I need you to provide food and supplies.
Can I ask you to do that?
Most impressive.
You’ve got balls. I’ll give you that.
Fine.
The Sparrowfeathers accept your request.
One more thing.
If I die...
What?
Forgive the unforgivable.
Hatred must not be passed on to the children of the people.
I, Alisha Diphda, absolutely forbid vengeance.
I want you to relay that to everyone.
Alisha Diphda...
If you do die...
I swear that I shall uphold your last wishes.
Good.
We must get ready.
We leave for Glaivend tomorrow morning.
Even after learning the meaning of purification, you still wish to go to the battlefield?
That’s exactly why I must go.
As the Shepherd.

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 11 [0E492B07]

So what do you think?
I succumbed to malevolence once before, so I’m a little anxious, but I’ll do my best.
I will protect Marlind.
I can’t just idly stand by while the young Shepherd risks his life to save the world.
Indeed.
You may have failed once, but that just means you know where you can improve.
What happens once can happen again.
Hey!
And this time, I’ll have the Normin on my side.
Oh, dear. Do you mean yours truly?
Well, if I must.
What happens in the morning happens in the evening.
Calamity strikes not once, but twice.
Edna! Stop it!
I’m just warning you.
Is everything ready?
Shepherd.
We are heading towards Glaivend Basin, which is on the border between Hyland and Rolance.
The Hyland army must be trying to establish its base of operations there.
There could be as many as 21,000 men in the invasion force.
The Rolance army won’t just sit back either.
We’ll send in our 1,200 troops from Marlind to wedge them apart and stop the war.
This is Bartlow we’re talking about.
He must have the roads connecting to Ladylake heavily guarded.
In that case, it’s probably safe to assume that 18,000 troops will head for Glaivend.
He never cuts corners when it comes to protecting his own hide.
But even then, you’re outnumbered over fifteen to one.
I understand that.
I’m not going there to fight a war.
Whatever you believe, this could still result in fighting our countrymen.
I’m sure they’ll understand too.
Princess!
Ian...
It’s been a long time, Princess.
Ian!
Sirel, long time no see!
You’ve gotten quite feminine during our apart.
In ten days? Hah!
As for you, I think your chest has filled out a bit.
Now that you mention it, my armor feels tight!
I was joking.
Really?
You two are old friends, right?
Yeah! Like sisters!
We even had a crush on the same guy.
His name was Robert, the second son of the head of the neighboring village.
He was really cute, but he acts older than he looks-
Ian...
Yes?
Tell us all about it next time.
All right.
You haven’t changed at all, Princess!
You’re as beautiful as a flower and as handsome as a stallion!
Hah! You haven’t changed a bit either, Ian!
I’m flattered, Princess!
On the way here, I snagged a fat prickleboar. It’s all yours.
Oh?
Impressive. I bet you took it down with one shot like usual.
Naturally.
Is he the one?
That’s right.
Shepherd Sorey!
You’re...
Is something the matter?
Oh, nothing. You just seem different from the rumors.
Rumors?
I heard you slew the dragon that appeared in Ladylake with one blow. Then you roasted and ate it whole.
Uh...
That’s so manly.
But I totally thought you’d look more coarse!
Shepherd Sorey, may I hold your hand? Please?
Sure.
Now I’ve been blessed by you!
I’m never going to wash this hand!
She’s quite energetic.
She thinks the Shepherd is a good luck charm.
So, Ian...
Have you brought me any interesting news?
Yes, I’ve been keeping tabs on the number of soldiers leaving Hyland.
And?
Bartlow is too much of a coward to leave himself defenseless.
I figured as much.
The total force is 20,000.
Is something wrong?
I estimated 18,000.
It seems Bartlow, too, realizes how much he has to commit to this war.
Are you sure, Boss?
Should the Scattered Bones be getting involved like this?
We have no choice. We can’t back out now.
Chasing after the princess and watching her has made me curious.
Curious about what?
She said she was willing to put her life on the line to stop the war.
That’s impressive.
But she only has one life to put on the line. What happens after she loses it?
Is she an idiot?
Oh, yeah. A big one.
This mist is great! Hide our forces!
It’s as if the heavens themselves wish for us to win.
Lord Bartlow will be most pleased.
As soon as the second wave arrives, we will launch a surprise assault on Rolance.
They won’t know what hit ’em!
Alisha...
Where are you going?
I’m going to get water.
At this hour?
I couldn’t sleep.
Same.
Glaivend Basin is close, right?
It’ll become a battlefield soon.
Yeah.
People killing each other on such a massive scale...
It’s difficult to imagine.
You’re right.
I’ve seen little skirmishes before, but nothing of this magnitude.
Like you said, if the war hasn’t started, I’ll help you any way I can.
But if the fighting has begun...
I know what you’re getting at.
I’m sorry to make you worry.
Don’t mention it.
You’re my friend, Alisha.
But if war’s broken out, I can’t side with Hyland.
The same goes for Rolance.
I support your stance as the Shepherd.
As the Shepherd, I will stop this war.
I don’t know how I’m going to do that, exactly.
But I wanted to share my thoughts before we arrived.
I understand.
And thank you, Sorey.
Hey, Sorey.
Yeah?
We’re going to war in a place called Glaivend Basin, right?
We’re going there to stop the war.
Right, stop the war.
It just feels unreal.
Only a short while ago, we were in Elysia.
You’re already reminiscing about the good old days?
I can’t help it. Not when all this is happening.
Yeah.
Yeah...
I wonder if Gramps is doing well.
Gramps is always well.
Yeah, that’s true.
Hey, Sorey.
Yeah?
If we do manage to stop the war...
Yeah?
Let’s go explore some ruins.
Explore, you say?
Even the Shepherd needs a break, right?
You’re right.
Then it’s a promise.
Yeah.
This is something Sorey must overcome as the Shepherd.
There’s no doubt that this will be a huge test for him.
I thought you said it was too early for him.
Yes.
I wanted him to be more experienced.
No...
I wish he could’ve avoided being in a war altogether.
Well, humans have no problems starting them.
It’s in their nature.
Humans are so stupid.
General Landon!
Rolance forces have attacked from our rear! It’s a surprise attack!
The rear?! That’s our territory!
Why did you cross the border?!
You’ve violated the treaty!
What’s the matter, Sergei?
In war, it’s victory above all else.
What’s the point of victory without honor?
Now we’ll be labeled as the instigators.
Now, now...
As long as we win, the politicians will work their magic.
The feint is working. Let’s mobilize our main forces.
Sergei, where are you going?
My men will not fight!
It’s already begun...
I sense the malevolence even from here.
Mediation will be difficult even if we get between them.
What will you do, Alisha?
I’ll meet with General Landon and try to work something out.
I don’t think it’ll be that easy.
Then I’ll capture him.
Sorey...
I’ll leave that to you.
I’ll do what I can.
Don’t falter! Keep pushing forward!
This malevolence...
Hatred, pain, anger...
Hellions are manifesting everywhere.
Let’s go, everyone.
They’re coming!
Rolance forces, here?
Alisha! Take the side route!
We’ll hold them here.
Lady Maltran!
Promise that you’ll make your wish come true.
I will.
Rose! Are you coming?
You were the one that told me to watch you.
I am Alisha Diphda! Let me pass!
General Landon!
Where is General Landon?
We’re in the midst of war! Please wait.
Princess Alisha is here?!
Fool! As if that girl would come here of all places!
General Landon...
Princess Alisha! What brings you to the front lines?
Send an envoy to the Rolance camp immediately to parley.
That’s an order.
An order, you say?
I’m afraid I can’t do that.
What?
Capture the princess!
You don’t have the authority to do that!
Oh, but I do. Bartlow has given me full control.
If she won’t submit peacefully, don’t be afraid to get rough with her!
Well, what now, Princess?
Sorey.
Sorey!
There’s so much malevolence... coming this way.
Are you okay?!
Sorry.
Useless idiots!
Don’t just stand there! Capture her!
Aren’t you guys on the same side?
Mind your own business and leave, woman!
Otherwise, your life is forfeit too.
Calamity Flare!
We’ll put our own soldiers at risk!
I don’t care! Fire anyway!
It’s just two girls. What are you doing?!
Princess, these guys are serious.
No.
Why?!
They may be your countrymen, but your life is in danger!
Isn’t this self-defense?!
It’s kill or be killed!
Even so... absolutely not.
Take them down!
I can’t take this! I’m doing it!
No!
Hey!
We even fight each other.
Is this what war is?
You stubborn princess!
Alisha!
Almost there...
Let’s do it, Mikleo.
Luzrov Rulay!
Arrow Squall!
Sorey!
Sorey, you did it!
They’re all purified!
You halted the war. That’s amazing!
No way!
Sorey!
Well done!
Do you even know what you’ve done?!
I’m okay. This is nothing.
Shut up!
You better wipe the blood off.
Or your sword will rust.
You bastards...
This is your princess!
What? What is the meaning of this?!
Not again?!
This power...
Seraphim!
This is...
This domain is worse than anything we’ve faced.
This is absurd. How can malevolence be this strong?
No...
That’s... a human hellion.
That’s a human?!
But he doesn’t look human at all.
Why?
He’s...
The Lord of Calamity!

▶ [Commie] Tales of Zestiria the X - 12 [D5F83B24]

You bastards...
You would harm your own princess?!
What are you doing?! Hurry up and capture her!
Sorry...
Wh-What?!
All right, listen up.
Drop your weapons.
Otherwise, your leader is a goner.
I’m pissed.
Really, really pissed.
Did you hear me?!
Urgent message!
Urgent message!
You’re ordered to cease fighting!
It’s over already?
How boring.
We need more killing, more hatred.
Isn’t that right, my lord?
That’s...
This domain is worse than anything we’ve felt before.
This can’t be right. This malevolence...
Could it be?
Sorey...
I can only think of one hellion that can have such a malevolent domain.
So he’s the Lord of Calamity?
A human hellion.
That’s a human?!
But I can’t see the human form.
Why?
Sorey!
Let us go, Edna.
I suppose we can’t let Sorey die here.
Is it even possible to purify this guy?
Mikleo...
Over here!
Sorey!
As the Shepherd, it’s my duty to purify you...
Lord of Calamity!
Shepherd...
How dare you speak to my lord?
Show me what you can do.
You wish to purify me?
Such insolence!
Sorey!
I was not aware that a new Shepherd had appeared.
Are you afraid?
The premonition of death is sweet, is it not?
Lailah!
Fethmus Mioma!
Shepherd...
It is imperceptible to ordinary humans.
But you can see how the malevolence has permeated everywhere, can’t you?
Lord of Calamity...
Sorey, we are no match for him right now!
All of you, come to me!
The malevolence...
is gathering!
How is this possible?
Lord of Calamity, you would go this far?
Shepherd...
Show me that you can survive this onslaught of hellions.
Go!
Can you endure it?
This is human malevolence. Behold its power.
You purify for the sake of humans...
But you are assaulted by malevolence from man.
Unfair, isn’t it?
I delight in the irony.
I believe...
I will purify the world one day!
As long as humans exist, there will always be malevolence.
It will never end.
I believe!
Some day...
Humans and seraphim will live together in harmony!
Alisha!
Alisha!
Princess, hang on!
I can’t stop the bleeding.
Where are the medics?!
They should be on their way already.
I’ll go check.
Alisha!
Princess!
L-Lady Maltran...
How do you feel, Alisha?
Lady Maltran...
Has the fighting stopped?
Yes, it stopped. It’s okay now.
Princess...
Don’t die, Princess.
I’ll bring Sorey as fast as I can.
The Shepherd...
He’ll be able to...
Don’t die, Princess!
Everyone’s alive.
If the princess dies, what will I toy with next?
But seriously, this malevolence is too thick even for me.
They’re alive?
What’s happening?
Even the Hyland soldiers...
Bring the medics immediately!
Yes, sir!
Where is this world heading?
You wish to defeat my master?
Then you must first defeat his servants.
Feel the power of human malevolence.
Their sins are limitless.
Symonne, let’s go.
Are you sure?
Survive, Shepherd.
You will become humanity’s beacon of hope, and then I will crush you.
I can think no greater despair than for the people to see their symbol of hope fail.
I can’t let Sorey do all the work!
We seraphim can’t do everything the Shepherd can.
I can at least scatter them.
Edna!
Lailah...
Let’s go.
Where are you going?
Not you again!
Further south.
You want to find that Sorey guy, right?
I said...
Just shut up and follow my directions.
Which way?
Go south, along that cliff on the far end.
Got it!
Seriously...
What is this malevolence?
It’s as if all of the malevolence in the world is gathering there.
This is really bad.
No kidding.
It looks like it’s over.
Yeah.
Sorey!
You can’t die here, kid.
There’s still something I want you to do.
Sorey!
I was thinking back...
To the time we first met when I thought you were the Shepherd.
To when we parted ways, I told you that you’d make a great Shepherd.
To the Sacred Blade Festival where you became the Shepherd.
A lot happened.
I remember it all so vividly.
You said your dream was for humans and seraphim to live together in peace.
I will never forget
those words.
I’m sure, now more than ever, that the Shepherd of legend...
was someone like you, Sorey.
I’m glad it was you.
Thank you.
I’m glad that you were here too, Alisha.
I’m glad that the first human I ever met was you.
Maybe that’s why I was able to believe in my dream.
I plan to return to Ladylake.
The fighting in the front lines is important.
But...
My role is to fight in the world of politics to prevent wars.
To prevent more bloodshed.
Alisha, I want you to become my Squire.
Squire?
I want to help you.
But won’t that be a burden on you?
I just need to become stronger.
Sorey...
All right, I’d like that.
Please make me your squire.
We’ll always be together.
Lailah, will you?
Yes.
Sorey...
After my incantations, give Alisha a true name in the ancient tongue.
A new bud forms on the holy branch.
Its flowers bring fruit.
Its fruit begets seeds.
The circle of destiny turns once more.
Give life unto the will of the Shepherd, and let it be proof of their bond.
Thy true name as Squire shall be...
Melphis Amekia.
It means "Alisha the Smiling."
Thank you, Sorey.
Let’s meet again someday.
Yes, we shall meet again.
Hey, how come you’re gazing into each other’s eyes?
Let me join in?
H-Hey, Rose!
This is goodbye for us too, so why does Sorey get special treatment?
Oh... Fine. Here.
Aw, so proper!
Those three sure are getting along.
I believe this is what’s called puberty.
Yeah, right.
Hey, shake my hand too, Sorey!
Sorey!
Shepherd!
How dare you take my military exploits away from me?!
I won’t let you do this!
Landon?! Why are you...
Once I bring your head to Bartlow, he will know who is more important to this nation!
This is...
This is his transformation into a hellion.
Hellion...
Sorey, he’s the one who attacked the princess!
He hurt Alisha?!
You idealistic fool of a princess!
The nation has no need of you either!
I’ll finish you and the Shepherd right now!
This idiot threatened Alisha?
No, Sorey! Don’t give in to anger!
You bastards...
Because there are guys like you...
This world is...
No, Sorey!
Sorey...
Because of guys like you...
Stop, Sorey!
He’ll get taken over by malevolence.
Sorey...
Well done.
Sorey...
I’ll take him back to Ladylake.
He’ll have a proper and fair trial.
Is that acceptable?
Sorey...
You handled yourself well.
I’m glad.
Shepherd Sorey...
What now?
Remember that one favor you owe me?
She’s definitely up to no good.
I totally agree.
Well, I’m here to collect.
I knew it.
What do you want?
Don’t worry. I’m not gonna force you to take sides in a war or something.
You should refuse.
I totally agree.
I have some business in Rolance.
Will you come with me?
He’s a hard one to negotiate with.
Having the Shepherd with me might help with negotiations.
That’s all?
That’s all.
What do you all think?
Well, that sounds okay.
We were planning to go to Rolance anyway.
It’s your decision, Sorey.
Okay, we’ll go to Rolance with you, Rose.
All right! Now we’re even.
By the way, is that guy around here?
What guy?
You know, that guy.
Oh, he’s over there.
Are you serious?
Sheesh!
He seems like quite the character.
This could be fun.
Idiots.
Okay, let’s go!

If the outbreak in neighboring Marlind is contagious,
it is only right to dispatch the army.
What does that have to do with conscripting soldiers?
Everything, of course.
It only became obvious recently,
but it’s been there a long time.
We’ve gone several times to observe it more closely,
but we’ve never noticed anything unusual.
Let me ask you this:
How do you feel about the situation in this town?
It’s so lifeless.
Tao, please stay here.
I want you to continue looking around town.
Understood.
What about you?
I’m going north.
To the woodlands.
This is...
The mist...
It’s moving!
Clem!
Princess Alisha?
Clem!
Behind you!
Princess Alisha!
We must get away now!
But Drake is still down there!
He’s what?!
He was going to find out about the Earthpulse!
Earthpulse?
Princess Alisha!
What’s happening up there?
At this rate, the town will be swallowed up.
What do we do?
According to the professor,
the world is connected by something called the Earthpulse.
If I can find the Earthpulse,
perhaps I can discover its secret.
Volta!
Gannet!
Volta...
Gannet...
Princess Alisha!
Please let me off!
Otherwise, we’ll be overtaken!
We won’t.
Princess Alisha!
We won’t!
I won’t let that happen!
I shall open the portal of chaos with you.
What’s happening?!
This is great!
This is so much fun!
Who are you?
You won’t get in the way of my main course!
Is this a dream?
What’s going on?!
Clem...
Clem... No...
Clem! Clem!
Answer me, Clem!
It cooled down.
Why?
Clem...
Gannet...
Volta...
Miss...

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 01 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [3BE2AD37]

Seraphim went their separate ways to live in various areas of the world
and to nurture all of creation.
Mikleo!
But how do we get to that side?
No way...
Yes, way!
Let’s go!
What were you thinking?
Coming down here doesn’t help.
Mikleo, look.
Now I get it.
An invisible bridge. Good eye.
Okay, let’s hurry.
Oh, right.
How do you think this bridge was made?
I think this is beyond the capabilities of human technology.
So like, the bridge alone might date from the Era of the Gods?
Possibly.
Maybe we should rethink this.
Hey!
Are you all right?
Huh?
I was sure the lightning hit me...
Glad you’re okay.
Can you stand?
Thank you.
I’m sorry to have troubled you.
And you are?
I’m Sorey.
Nice to meet you.
Sorey?
Sorey...
Are you a Shepherd?

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 02 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [9048D41A]

For several years now,
the world’s been plunged into a nigh-incomprehensible state of chaos.
Chaos?
I experienced some of that chaos myself.
Chaos so horrid, I still have trouble believing it’s real.
Really?
So many lives were taken right before my eyes,
including those of my friends.
Seriously?
From what the fox man said,
it’s fair to assume that he’s after Alisha.

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 03 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [30241111]

You weren’t just making a snide remark at their plans
to conscript the youth who attend the Sacred Blade Festival?
There’s no doubt that the princess’ actions will lead our kingdom to ruin.
Thanks to the grace and assistance of our Lady Alisha,
the Sacred Blade Festival can be held once more.
Even if Rolance decides to invade,
we must not strike first.
Impossible!
Sorey!

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 04 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [442982C5]

You’re finally up.
Sorey!
How do you feel?
Mikleo, Lailah...
You’ve been out with a high fever for three days, you know.
Three days?
It’s probably because you became my vessel.
Who knows what would’ve happened if Alisha didn’t save you?
Alisha?
That’s right! Where’s Alisha?!
Sorey!
Alisha!
Thank goodness!
You’re awake!
Thanks for the food!
Given your appetite, I guess the worst must be over.
Yeah! The food was great!
Alisha, you took care of me this whole time, right?
Thank you.
I should be the one thanking you.
When you drew the Sacred Blade,
and quelled the riot at the festival,
my heart raced like never before.
If someone must go,
I want to do whatever I can.
Don’t carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.
I’m worried about you.
Lady Maltran...
But these winds are awfully strong.
I hope they don’t portend disaster.
Alisha!
It can’t be!

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 05 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [A527BF8D]

What?
By upholding an oath that restrains your words and actions,
you may obtain extraordinary powers.
The more restraints you put on yourself,
the greater the power you may wield.

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 06 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [801C9607]

Oscar...
So, it’s you, Seres.
I have no idea what lies ahead,
but that’s what makes life interesting.

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 07 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [D38BD33F]

Friends?
We haven’t known each other for very long,
but I consider her a good friend.
Sorey has become a Shepherd,
so what am I supposed to do?
I wasn’t able to talk to him,
but he must be a great man.
Yeah.
Somewhere, Mikleo is gazing at the same moon.
Yes.

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 08 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [F5E4BC33]

Yeah.
The world’s a big place,
so who knows?

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 09 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [DA93B921]

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 10 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [C53F12D3]

Long ago, Normins were everywhere,
and we all worked together.
You sinner!
Stop!
Sorey!
Not again!
Meebo, Meebo, Meebo, Meebo.
Even after learning the meaning of purification,
you still wish to go to the battlefield?
That’s exactly why I must go.
As the Shepherd.

Yeah!
Sorry.
Useless idiots!
Don’t just stand there! Capture her!
Aren’t you guys on the same side?
Mind your own business and leave, woman!
Otherwise, your life is forfeit too.
Calamity Flare!
We’ll put our own soldiers at risk!
I don’t care! Fire anyway!
It’s just two girls. What are you doing?!
Princess, these guys are serious.
No.
Why?!
They may be your countrymen, but your life is in danger!
Isn’t this self-defense?!
It’s kill or be killed!
Even so... absolutely not.
Take them down!
I can’t take this!
I’m doing it!
No!
Hey!
We even fight each other.
Is this what war is?
You stubborn princess!
Alisha!
Almost there...
Let’s do it, Mikleo.
Luzrov Rulay!
Arrow Squall!
Sorey!
Sorey, you did it!
They’re all purified!
You halted the war.
That’s amazing!
No way!
Sorey!
Well done!
Do you even know what you’ve done?!
I’m okay. This is nothing.
Shut up!
You better wipe the blood off.
Or your sword will rust.
You bastards...
This is your princess!
What?
What is the meaning of this?!
Not again?!
This power...
Seraphim!
This is...
This domain is worse than anything we’ve faced.
This is absurd.
How can malevolence be this strong?
No...
That’s... a human hellion.
That’s a human?!
But he doesn’t look human at all.
Why?
He’s...
The Lord of Calamity!

▶ Tales of Zestiria the X - 12 [BD.1080p] [Iznjie Biznjie] [67266653]

You bastards...
You would harm your own princess?!
What are you doing?!
Hurry up and capture her!
Sorry...
Wh-What?!
All right, listen up.
Drop your weapons.
Otherwise, your leader is a goner.
I’m pissed.
Really, really pissed.
Did you hear me?!
Urgent message!
Urgent message!
You’re ordered to cease fighting!
It’s over already?
How boring.
We need more killing, more hatred.
Isn’t that right, my lord?
That’s...
This domain is worse than anything we’ve felt before.
This can’t be right.
This malevolence...
Could it be?
Sorey...
I can only think of one hellion that can have such a malevolent domain.
So he’s the Lord of Calamity?
A human hellion.
That’s a human?!
But I can’t see the human form.
Why?
Sorey!
Let us go, Edna.
I suppose we can’t let Sorey die here.
Exactly.
Yes.
Sorey...
You handled yourself well.
I’m glad.
Shepherd Sorey...
What now?
Remember that one favor you owe me?
Yeah.
