All right. If you like it that much, you can have it! I have more. I'll go get one. You seem to be having a good time out there. Yes, I am. But you just met him, right? You shouldn't trust him that easily. Don't worry. Yasaku's a great judge of character! No, it's always better to be careful! That's why you have no friends. Quiet, everyone. Hello, everyone. Are these all made from pigskin, too, Edogai? Kill him. He's seen us. Kill him. Stuff and mount him. Kill him. Kill him! Kill him! Kill him! They look like they could come to life at any moment! You're a genius, Edogai! Don't trust him, Yasaku! He's a bad man! But, Mom, he's... Are you the only one who can hear her voice? Kill him! Now that he's seen us, he cannot leave alive! That's what you always say! You try to drive everyone away from me! You killed Dad, and he was my friend! It's not healthy to spend all day talking to stuffed corpses. Shut up, plate-for-brains! Your father was a bad man, just like all the other men! Nobody loves you! Shut up! That's why I castrated you, because you looked like your father down there! Edogai, listen to my voice. It was all for you! Stop it, please! I did it all for you! Edogai! Incredible... That's human skin, isn't it? Yup. What do you think? I made it by ripping skin off from bodies myself. Don't open your heart to him! Shut up, Mom! Shall we talk in your workshop? You may not have done the "sen" process correctly during tanning. "Sen"? The process of scraping off pieces of fat and meat that are still stuck to the skin. If you're not careful when you do it, the work won't last. Your skin's a little rough here. Did you use alum when you tanned it? Yes. That's not good for people with sensitive skin. I recommend tannic acid! It's plant-based, so it's easy on the skin. Edogai, if you have any more of your work, would you try it on for me? Really? What do you think, Tsurumi? I love it! It's wonderful, Edogai! I love it! That's cutting-edge fashion, Edogai! I want to see more! I want to see more of your wonderful clothing! A kitty! Walk like a kitty! It's so cute! What the hell is going on? Huh? No dice. It's gotta be Lt. Tsurumi's. Oops... Youhei's ear. Huh? Wait, what? So much fun! Mom! No! There's the ear! What are you doing to Mom? Here, take it. Shoot your mother. What sort of terrible son points a gun at his mother?! Decide! Make your own decisions! No... No! Don't shoot! You have to leave your nest. Your nest was a twisted place, and that's why you grew up twisted! Don't do it! The voice... stopped. My mother died of a heart attack. I should've ended things while she was alive. Thank you. By the way, I wanted to make a deal with you. What is it? The tattooed skins that you and I are wearing right now are part of a code. I want to make false skins, bearing nonsense. I want you to make several clever fakes that only we can identify. We're going to bring real chaos into this war for the tattoos. We've got tattoos from me, Ushiyama Tatsuuma, Ienaga here, Hijikata Toshizou, and two copies made on oiled paper. And the one Ogata Hyakunosuke acquired in Barato. That's six in all. So the goal's to get a bunch of weirdos, old men, and thugs together to restore the Ezo Republic? If this is some petty dream of revenge, that's not fair to the people who are following you. Nopperabo is an Ainu, right? Did Lt. Tsurumi know that? There was one thing in common about the belongings of all seven of the men Nopperabo killed. They were damaged. Ainu funerals involve destroying or damaging the items the dead are buried with, ending their role in this world so that they can be used in the next. He ripped the bodies apart, but took time to damage everything they owned. It feels, in a way, like atonement. The seven who were murdered were sent from villages from all over Hokkaido. They were going to use the gold to buy weapons to fight the Japanese. If Nopperabo was trying to help the Ainu gain independence for Hokkaido, why did he kill them? Did he betray them because he wanted the gold for himself? My guess is that Nopperabo is a partisan from the far eastern part of Russia, who was pretending to be Ainu. Russia is far from a unified place. There's the forces of the czar, Lenin's Communist Party, and then there's the partisans, composed of some of the ethnic minorities. Each one of these groups is fighting the others. So Nopperabo was a partisan, trying to gain funds for a war of independence. He tried to move the money out via Sakhalin, but failed. And that's how this whole thing got started? You never trusted Nopperabo at all, did you, old man? Which means that No-Face's allies outside the prison... ...are very likely to be partisans pretending to be Ainu, too. The masu salmon have come back to the rivers again this year. Sugimoto, you were eating huki, weren't you? So were you! So were you, Asirpa. You're kidding me. How? Asirpa, you ate too much! This is masu salmon ohau, the most delicious food you can eat in spring. Let's eat! Hinna, hinna. It's great! The pukusa is so sweet! We survived the long winter by eating dried foods, so it's wonderful when spring comes and you can eat fresh foods again. The huki's a little bitter, but it's sweet and delicious. It's the taste of spring, sweet and bitter! Tell me about Mommy. Again? She was a beautiful woman, just like you. We met in Otaru. She taught me all the things I didn't know. The words of the Ainu who lived here, and everything they believed. My blood, and the blood of the Ainu who live here... You're a mix of both, so you'll be a new kind of Ainu woman. And you'll be the leader of the Ainu. Your eyes are the same as mine. Never forget what I'm about to tell you. Shiraishi, wake up! How long are you going to keep sleeping, you pig? We're leaving. Yuubari's still a long way off. You seem upset this morning. Your breath probably stank while you were asleep. It's no good. I can't get the same color this way. It won't fool anybody! You can only get that color off of a living human. Damn it! I can't do it! I just can't do it! Keep at it, Edogai. Concentrate! Concentrate! Okay, Tsukishima! Should I tattoo you and then rip off your skin? Where's Tsurumi? I want to see him! Lt. Tsurumi returned to Otaru. I'm only taking orders from him, got it? Bring Tsurumi here! Bring him here! Your friend there doesn't look Ainu. Are those soldiers' clothes underneath that jacket? Just give me bullets for this Murata gun. You know, an Ainu woman was here not long ago. She asked if I knew of a village where an Ainu girl with blue eyes lived. Didn't your niece have eyes like that? What was she like? She was pretty. I think she said she was a fortune-teller. You're walking a lot better now. Yeah. It barely hurts now. What will you do now, Tanigaki? Want to kill it before we go home? It'll make a nice present. That bird's ripping off its winter coat to take back to its nest. Good... the deer hasn't noticed us yet. Yes! I was going to aim for the neck. We got interrupted. Still, nice job getting it in a single shot. Is that a boy from the village? I've never seen him before. He's a weirdo. He never plays with the rest of the village kids. But he's interested in the hunt. Tanigaki's kid, Genjirou, put on a straw coat and followed the hunt again! If you want to watch from up closer, gather up some pine boughs. The front legs of a yuk are only connected by muscle, so they're easy to detach. This is yours. Really? I can see you were born an Ani Matagi. You know just how it's done. Why was this tiny yuk all alone? It's a male, so it must've just left its parents. Or maybe they died. Then it's just like me, huh? His siblings and parents all died. The elders in the village take care of him. His real name is... Your parents gave it to you before they died, right? Cikapasi! Great name, huh? Yeah. Cikapasi? What does that mean? "He who makes birds fly." But it also means "to get an erection." In other words, "boner"? You really do have a good name, Cikapasi. It's a great name, "Boner." Ayapo! Anpene! Iyainuman. Oh, look at this wonderful Nispa. I love men with scars on their faces. My name is Inkarmat. It means "the woman who sees." You there, the handsome Nispa. Shall I tell your fortune? No, I'll pass. Did you lose your little sister? The thought came to me as I looked at you. I'm very sorry. Who are you? I came here in search of someone. Is there a girl with blue eyes who lives in this kotan? My Sirakki Kamuy says this is the right place. We met in Naganuma. She said she was traveling to accomplish a certain goal. She had three Nispa with her. One of them is going to betray Asirpa. He's a very dangerous man. If he's not stopped, her life may be in danger. I'll bring back Asirpa safely. I promise. Osoma, you have something to give him, right? She spent a long time trying to make you tekunpe, with Huci's help. She only managed to get one done in time, though. When an Ainu woman's in love, she makes a pair of tekunpe and gives them to her man. Thank you, Osoma. I promise I'll come back. So make me the other one. Shall I tell your fortune to help find where Asirpa is? No. I'm not going because I believe your fortune-telling. The problem is that the villagers do. The Sirakki Kamuy tells me that good fortune lies to the east. Let us go, Tanigaki Nispa. Why are you coming with me? I have a weakness for men with scars on their faces. I see. Use the man named Tanigaki who's at the kotan. His leg should have healed by now. Next Time: "Fake." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 02 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [08F2D0BD] How many times do I have to tell him? I bet their parents never taught them manners! Who just came in that door? Tsukishima? Maeyama? I've told you a thousand times not to slam doors! And what's more, you stink! Go take a bath! You're distracting me! I can't work like this! Both of you, apologize! Apologize to Tsurumi. I made him last night! Now both of you, apologize. Edogai, don't waste your time on stuff like that. Do your job. Apologize to Tsurumi! Tsurumi! They're finally done. Perfect fake skins. I started with six! Tsurumi will be so happy! He'll pat me on the head and tell me I did a good job! Was that you, Maeyama? How many times do I have to... M-Maeyama? Who is that? They're coming! Did they come to steal the skins? The smoke's splitting! That means somebody's going to die in the mines again! Stop it! Crap... Forgot my wallet. Hey, wasn't that one of Lt. Tsurumi's troops? Maybe... Not sure. He must've come here because he heard rumors about a house with tattooed skins... Let's follow him. Should we go get Kiroranke and Asirpa? They're questioning people over there. No, there's no time. Let's go. I need to escape. But the only exit is the front door. What do I do? You gave me a rat as a present? Tsukishima takes long baths. He won't be back for a while. I've got time to make the taxidermist tell me what they're planning here. Sir! I just saw a polar bear running this way! That's perfectly normal. The sun's hard today! What the hell is this? Looks like the taxidermist kid is in love with Lt. Tsurumi. Well, that's not good. It gives Lt. Tsurumi too much of an advantage. Shit. He got away! You bastard! You'll pay for what you did to Maeyama... How could you kill your former comrade, Ogata? Both of you are working against the government. You're HQ's pet cat! I know exactly what you want! You want to offer rebels up to the government so you can get a promotion. You want to sell out your friends so you can surpass your father, who was the head of the 7th Division! Friends? Comrades? You're good at using cheesy lines to trick young men, Lt. Tsurumi. How many bullets do I have left? Edogai, you alive? I just saw a polar bear running this way! Was that him? I need to give them to Tsurumi! He went after Edogai? I need to find him before Tsukishima... Should we really ignore the soldier who just ran out? I want to know what's in this house. Immortal Sugimoto... Well, that's another problem to worry about. Look, Sugimoto! A dead body! That's suspicious! This might be the place! What the hell is this? You're Shiraishi Yoshitake, aren't you? Hijikata Toshizou told me about you. Should I make them stop Tsukishima for me? Sugimoto! Look at this! I think Lt. Tsurumi was making fake skins here! The soldier who just left must have stolen them! We should chase him now! Tsurumi! Tsurumi! Did you see a polar bear? Tsurumi! Tsurumi! Tsurumi! Edogai! Your luck ran out when you met the Grim Reaper named Lt. Tsurumi. Get on, Edogai! That's him! Tsukishima, let's head into the tunnels and escape! The tunnels all loop back on each other, and there are plenty of exits! I'm going to get the fake skins I made to Tsurumi and have him pat me on the head and lick me! Tsurumi! Immortal Sugimoto?! Did he hear the rumors about the tattooed skins? We can't let them get away! If those fake skins get loose, there'll be chaos! Ow! Get lost! Watch out! Oh, no... They'll catch up to us! Give me those skins! Get lost! Watch out, Shiraishi! My pants are gonna split! It's the guy who killed Maeyama! That's Ogata. Keep your head down or he'll shoot! Hey! Stop! Stop! We lit the 'mite up! Stop, or you'll be caught in the explosion! Oh, no! Were they yelling something? Not sure. Dynamite? That was close. That scared me. But now they can't follow us! Let's escape out the other side of the mountain! Shit. Hey, do you smell something? Like burning metal... Firedamp! The blast hit a gas pocket! Run! It's gonna blow! Did something just blow up? Let's just get out of here, Shiraishi! What's this wind? It's a returner! There might be another, bigger blast! Get out, now! Another gas explosion... That was the biggest we've had for a long while. The whole mountain shook. That's terrible! Edogai! Where are you, Edogai? Are you still alive? Tsukishima, I'm right here! Over there? I'll get you out now! Tsukishima, run away. The only way to keep the fire from spreading is to shut off the air. So they'll seal all the exits, even if there are still people inside. Then we need to get you out! A rock crushed my leg... Take this to Tsurumi! He was the first person who ever took me seriously. And this was what he wanted in return. Don't waste them, Tsukishima! Right! And one more thing.... There's one more thing I want you to tell him. What is it? Tell me, Edogai! Shiraishi! Wake up, Shiraishi! Wake up, you useless idiot! I feel so tired... Is it because of the gas? I am Immortal Sugimoto! I don't know where I'm going! That's not good. Hey, not that way! The air vent's this way! Come this way! Why the hell... Shiraishi, breathe! I can't have you dying on me! Shiraishi! Shiraishi! Shit... not here... Somebody's coming out! Did someone just now make it out? Wow! He saved two of them! Hey, girl. We meet again. Mr. Dick! The fish cake! She's still got it! What are you doing here? I came with someone else to Yuubari, but they disappeared. I was looking for them when I saw you on that mine cart. Someone else? Fine. Take them with us. You were with Lt. Tsurumi! Why are you with Ushiyama? The fakes were probably made using these six bodies. We know for a fact that the taxidermist is dead. Sergeant Tsukishima is a tough soldier. Until they pull his body out of the tunnels, we have to assume there are six fake skins in circulation out there. We need to find a way to tell if the one he left behind is fake or real. Old man, have we met? Shit! No, don't be silly! This is Hijikata Toshizou! Hijikata... It's been a long time, Shiraishi Yoshitake. Will you introduce me to your friend? What's the plan if he finds out, you senile old geezer?! Will Sugimoto kill me if he finds out I've been passing them information? There was something I wanted to ask you if we met. There's something that Nopperabo must've told you and nobody else. Either he trusted you to a degree, or you both shared some great goal. I don't know which. But did he propose that you give weapons to the Ainu and start a war of independence? Is Nopperabo really an Ainu? You've gotten that far, huh? Is your plan to get one up on Nopperabo and rebuild the Republic of Ezo, Hijikata Toshizou? My father is— Do we work together, or do we kill each other here? Choose. Hijikata just cut that girl's words off. "My father"? Is that girl Nopperabo's daughter? If you have tattooed skins, we'll buy them from you. Nagakura Shinpachi is here, too! We won't ask you to help us. Just sell us the skins. Use the money to go home, find a wife and live in peace. Or is that too boring a life for a young man? I need to meet Nopperabo and find some answers. Until then, I can't have you finding the gold. What the hell is with that rumbling? Shall I make something for you? Ienaga's alive! Why not discuss the rest over a meal? This is nanko stew. It's a local dish made in the Sorachi area, which includes Yuubari. An offal stew made from boiling intestines in miso. Hey, Ienaga. This meat's safe to eat, right? Don't worry! Nanko means "horse intestine" in the local dialect. Horse, eh? I don't know how all you guys manage to work together. Especially the guy who used to work for Lt. Tsurumi. Somebody who's a traitor once will betray you again. Sugimoto, you almost killed me, but I'm not the type to hold a grudge. That hurt me, though. No fighting during lunch. Our priority right now is finding a way to tell which ones are the fakes. I have returned. The highest ambition of an artist is to leave his work behind for the world to enjoy. Especially if it's something that will change the world, they could ask for no more. Edogai's last words were a message for you. What is it? Iron! Tell him "Iron"! "Iron"? Tsurumi... He'll be able to figure it out just from that! Well done. Get some rest, Tsukishima. Yes, sir. Iron... Iron... Edogai had an obsession with tannin. It's a way of tanning that takes a lot of extra effort, that no one else would ever use. He shared that with me and no one else. Tsurumi, when these gloves get wet, be careful! If they touch a certain thing, they'll turn black! The tannin gets absorbed into the water and then reacts with the iron. Edogai's last words were telling me how to detect the fakes. He sacrificed his life to give me five fake skins. And I'll make good use of them! Next Time: "Let's Talk About the Past." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 03 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [956AB385] A corpse wearing a military uniform? Ain't heard anything about it. Is he alive? Whether he is or not, we can't leave Yuubari until we know if Sergeant Tsukishima is alive or not. There must be some clue left here. There should be some connection between the leftover skins used for the taxidermy process, and the fake tattooed skins. They got us. Ienaga, don't go outside! They'll shoot you! I caught a glimpse of a soldier's uniform out there. I think there's more than one. They're here to destroy the evidence of the fake skins? There may be kibushi berries still left in Edogai's house. What? That's what he uses for tanning. We need to get rid of them all. From the look of it, there are two or three people inside. If Sergeant Tsukishima's report is right and Sugimoto Saichi is in there, don't kill him! He's mine! If Lt. Tsurumi's men are here, I guess we should assume Sergeant Tsukishima made it out of the tunnels alive. Yeah, you're right. There's iron bars on the windows. If the soldiers outside want to get in, they'll have to come in the front door. I'll make sure they decide to do that. He's above us! Get under the porch! We're going in! Let's bust down the door— Get away from the door! Don't leave the porch! He'll shoot you! There are quite a few of them. Go! Go! The second floor! Take out the sniper on the second floor! Damn you! I can't get out... Ushiyama! Move, Ienaga. Die! Die, you stupid shit! What, want me to thank you? I didn't save you because I wanted to, batman. Where's Hijikata?! Hijikata! Sugimoto Saichi! Stay hidden! Poke a finger out from behind that corner, and he'll shoot it! This is our only chance at escape. Hurry. Let's go, old man! Let's split into two groups and flee. We'll meet up at Ashibetsu. I'll look for Ienaga and Nagakura's group. With no way to tell which skins are fake, we'll have to meet Nopperabo directly. He'll probably be willing to tell his daughter everything. I should've assumed you knew that she was his daughter. For my part, as long as I get a small share, I don't care who does what with the gold. But Asirpa is a true Ainu. Is the person who stole their gold really her father? I want to see her find the truth. So for now, we can assume we share the same goal? We'll both do whatever we feel like. We should be careful. Try to run into as few people as possible. They'll be looking for locals who saw us to track us. Look, Sugimoto. Those are tureptacir. Woodcock birds. When it's herb-gathering season, that's when the woodcocks come to this place. They're digging holes. Are they looking for bugs? Their long beaks, which they use to find food, are similar to the tools the Ainu use to dig up ubayuri roots. So we call them "ubayuri-digging birds." Are they tasty? The brains are tasty! Hey, Ogata. No. Why? We're eating them, right? Even if you hit one, the others will flee. Woodcocks don't fly in a straight line, so it'll be hard to hit one with that gun. We have a trap that takes advantage of the woodcocks' habits. You make a path with branches that the woodcocks will want to follow, and fill it up with traps. If we use traps, we can get enough for everybody. The traps worked! But that's probably not enough for everybody. Help me pluck the feathers, Sugimoto. She's upset because she set so many traps and only caught two. Three of them? I wondered where you went. I'm impressed you managed to get so many without buckshot. Wow, he's annoying. He got mad because Asirpa said he couldn't do it. And you're jealous 'cause you can't hit shit with a gun! I am not! Mr. Dick, this is woodcock brain. Mr. Dick... do you not like brains? Is that edible? Sugimoto... It's hinna, right? Hinna, hinna! No, I'm fine. Now you use all the rest of it, including the organs, to make chitatap! Chitatap! Hell yes! Chitatap? Smack it while saying "chitatap," Mr. Dick. Chitatap? Chitatap...? Chitatap. Chitatap. Chitatap. Take over for him, Ogata. Everybody has to help make the chitatap. Asirpa, Ogata isn't saying "chitatap"! Ogata? What's wrong? Now, let's eat! This is ohau made from woodcock chitatap! Let's eat! It's so good! Hinna, hinna! Yum. Hinna! You there. Why are you pretending to be an Ainu? You're Japanese, right? An Ainu child with three men... I haven't seen anything like that. Wait, that's not the kid you're talking about? Hey, Boner. Don't run. Don't call me "Boner," Tanigaki Nispa! My name is Cikapasi! I could tell you were following us from a distance. I ignored you on the theory that you'd give up eventually. Get back to your kotan. Everybody there must be worried. My family is dead. Nobody is waiting for me back at the kotan. Take me with you. Why not take him? The Sirakki Kamuy says it's good luck to take him. If the three of us pretend to be a family, nobody will be suspicious of us. Really? We're pretending to be a family? Th-Then Inkarmat is my big sister. But we have different mothers. You love your little brother and don't get mad if I grab your boobs, and we're looking for our dad, whom we've never met, together! I like that. It sounds fun. And you're my dad's little brother, Tanigaki Nispa, and Inkarmat likes you, but you're hiding the fact that you're really her brother. Cikapasi, that's too complicated. Let's make it simpler. Yeah? Okay, so Inkarmat is my big sister, and she doesn't get mad at all if I grab her breasts. And you're the guy who lives next door, and you have giant testicles! Cikapasi, that means we're not related at all. Is he still in Abashiri? Yes. "He"? Inudou Shirosuke, the Warden of Abashiri Prison. He and I had quite a history at Kabato Prison, too. Speaking of Kabato... I thought my heart would stop then. See you next year, Mr. Nagakura. Have a nice year. Gamushin... Impossible! Is that you, Hijikata? Inudou, you're a terrible man. I've spent twenty years here as a swordsmanship instructor. Why did you never tell me? I heard you parted ways before the Hakodate War. I have no responsibility to give you information about prisoners. You lost your brother in the Hakodate War. He fought on the new government's side. You may hate him because of that, but why hide him from the government? Or keep him hidden until now, instead of executing him? Did you decide that the worst punishment for Hijikata Toshizou was to steal everything from him, and keep him alive in a life without meaning? I'm waiting for his light to go out. When the light in his eyes goes out, I'll hang him. Let me see him. You need to leave. You're being transferred to Abashiri at the start of the year. I'll come back then. Hijikata will be taken to Abashiri. You're a monster of a warden. But a monster obsessed with rules is one thing. You're a monster obsessed with revenge. If you don't let me see him now, I'll split your head open! M-Mr. Nagakura! Get that old geezer out of here! Toss him out the gates! Let me go, you damn bureaucrats! Calm yourself, Mr. Nagakura. Come with me. He's in solitary over there. I can give you 10 minutes or so to talk to him. I owe you one, chief guard. It's nothing... I'm a swordsman, too. Is that you, Gamushin? I never thought I'd hear that name again at my age. It was the fourth year of the Keiou era when last we met, correct? I gave up on the Shinsengumi then. But Hijikata, even if I had my disagreements with Kondou, Everything I did for the Shinsengumi was because of you. What's gotten into you, Nagakura Shinpachi? Age has softened you, I see. If you hadn't protected me from Kondou, I would've been forced to commit seppuku so many times. You liked the ladies a little too much. You're the one who taught me that bad habit! We both did a lot of stupid things. We loved fighting with swords, wandering, and women more than anyone else. We were a lot alike. Your nickname was "Baragaki," "a kid as violent as a thorn." What a stupid name. It's a cooler name than "Gamushin," or "reckless Shinpachi." You were stupid and ill-tempered, but when you swung your sword, it was a thing of beauty. And beautiful things should be left alive. When we had that last fight before we parted ways, was that you trying to keep me from following you to your death? I've spent many nights asking myself that. If that was the last thing all of you did for me... Am I wrong, Hijikata? You are. I just didn't like you because you were an idiot. Hey, Asirpa, are you sure we didn't see Hijikata somewhere? I'm sure I've seen that face before. Oh, it's just an Ogata. Going to Yuubari gave us important information. There are fake tattoos out there. That was a big miscalculation on Lt. Tsurumi's part. He probably didn't expect us to find out so soon. I'm sorry... They escaped. It's fine. It doesn't matter if they know the fakes exist or not. I only wanted one thing. Chaos. As long as we can get the real ones little by little, that's all we need. Don't you think it'll be fun to watch them run around helplessly, Lt. Tsukishima? Yes, sir. Without a way to tell which ones are fakes, gathering the skins won't help us crack the code. There may be no way to tell at all. That would be a real shame. We'll have to rely on this man. Me? I never thought this useless idiot would be our last hope. The fastest way forward is to talk to Nopperabo in Abashiri Prison directly. Escape King, it's up to you to get us in. I gotta piss! Shiraishi... Sugimoto, you're here! How'd you find us? Forget that. We need to talk. Come with me. Where's everybody else? I remembered. Remembered what? After Henmi Kazuo died, we met a weird guy at the longhouse, remember? That was Hijikata Toshizou. I'm sure of it. So you were working with him then? You were passing him information about us the whole time? N-No! I was drunk at the longhouse... You're still going to lie to me? If you had told the truth, I would've forgiven you! Sugimoto! Don't— Oh, no... What do I do? I'm scared shitless now! The gold won't matter if he kills me first! You... You're Shiraishi, right? Next Time: "The Great Plan to Infiltrate The Asahikawa 7th Division!" ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 04 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [B8D070BE] Don't let him get away! Get ahead of him and cut him off! What's all this fuss? Look, I'm a ninja! Try and get away from this, Escape King! Shiraishi was captured by the 7th Division? Was it Lt. Tsurumi? No, I didn't see Lt. Tsurumi. It was another unit. According to the locals, they were on their way back to Asahikawa. There were too many for me to try a head-on attempt to rescue Shiraishi. But we'll have serious problems if he's taken all the way to their HQ in Asahikawa. Knowing Shiraishi, can't he just get away on his own? Maybe he's been killed, and they're flaying him as we speak! If they lock him away somewhere in their HQ, it might take him months to get out on his own. Nagakura, Ienaga, wait for Sugimoto's group to return here. Once they arrive, head to Asahikawa. Kiroranke and I will get Shiraishi back! He's the only one who can enter Abashiri Prison and contact Nopperabo. You've already met the person you're fated to be with. Who? Who is it? What is it that you sell, merchant? I don't sell anything. Your friend there is a fortune-teller, huh? Lucky guy... I want to be the gigolo for a pretty girl like that, too. Gigolo? I'm not a gigolo... Inkarmat, give me money! There's a bean candy seller here! Three men with a little Ainu girl? I saw them in Yuubari. There were these three nasty-looking men who tried to sell me a liver. That guy with the hat was probably some kind of terrible criminal! I can tell these things! Yuubari, huh? I should've guessed. If you take the fastest route to Abashiri from Otaru, you run into Asahikawa. Asahikawa is the 7th's base of operations. I thought they'd go around it. If they passed through Yuubari, maybe they passed through the Daisetsuzan Volcanic Group and the Hidaka Mountains, and headed to Tokachi. Tokap? Tokachi. What's tokap? It means "boobs." Tokap! Tokap! Tokap! Cikapasi, enough . Stop glancing back at Inkarmat, Cikapasi! Look! We've been waiting for you. I've got bad news. What is it? Let's hurry! We need to get ahead of them! How do we get him back? Strike the 7th in their sleep? Blast a few of them with a bomb to throw the rest into chaos— Is that how you fought at the Amur River? Why did you abandon your home and come to Hokkaido? Or did the czar's men chase you here? You and Nopperabo both. Do you know Nopperabo's real name? Give one sen to the Inari in that alleyway, and pay your respects. Once Osen arrives at the tea shop and has a seat, serve her some bitter tea. A bean candy seller! I want some! Can I buy some? Give me bean candy! Thanks for your purchase. After the bitter tea... Kamuy Kotan? The Kamuy Kotan is the domain of the gods. It's always been said that humans have no place there. To the Ainu, this valley is a dangerous source of many accidents. They've always feared those accidents as the work of an evil god. So there's lots of interesting stories about the Kamuy Kotan. Stories of katanas that devour men. Katanas that devour men? The Ipetam. The Ipetam is a cursed sword that flies through the air in search of men to prey on. Bury it in the mountains, throw it in a deep river, and it will come back anyway. Bury it in a coffin with rocks, and it will eat the rocks with a crunching sound. But once the rocks are gone it will leave the coffin and start to attack people, so in the end, they threw it in the bottomless swamp of the Kamuy Kotan. And then it didn't come back. I see. Then I shall be an Ipetam. One that climbed out of the bottomless swamp. Cross ten at a time! Kamuy Kotan. Hanging bridge... What are they going to do? You've gotta be kidding me! Sure, we're on a bridge, but is he still going to fight this many people with a katana? You stupid old man! Bridge collapse! Several men fell! Turn back! We're going to save them! I'm gonna die! Somebody save me! Shiraishi! Don't let go! Shiraishi! Kiro! Just wait! Grab on! I could get rid of these any time I wanted! Shit! Shiraishi, hang in there! Almost there! Reach out! Come on, Shiraishi! What's wrong? Hurry! Shiraishi! I believe he has already arrived at Asahikawa by now. Even if he can escape on his own, we can't wait for him when we don't know how long that will take. We don't even know if he can. He may be the Escape King, but that's not a prison. Who knows what they're doing to him? They may be flaying him right now! You go look, Ogata. You're with the 7th, right? I'm considered a deserter right now. What about you, Kiroranke? You were with the 7th, right? They saw my face at the Kamuy Kotan. Well, I guess it's okay. We've got a copy of his tattoos. No, I want to save him. He's a ridiculous man, but he's still useful to us. But how do we save him? Knowing that man... Nikaidou, let go! Give me that vial! No! What's all this fuss, Sergeant Tsukishima? Lt. Tsurumi! No! Nikaidou stole a whole vial of morphine, and was taking extra doses of it in secret! Don't blame me if he dies from an overdose. Nikaidou, you know better than that. You need to follow the doctor's orders. Give it back. No, Nikaidou! Bad! Youhei's right leg burned. Along with Edogai's house. I can't track down Sugimoto without a leg. Nikaidou, it's not right to just give up. No! Nikaidou, no! No! Lt. Tsurumi, somebody's there. Who are you? You want to know who I am? I'm the one who made that rifle you're carrying! Lt. General Arisaka, sir! I'm sorry to keep you waiting. Arisaka! The genius weapons designer. A lieutenant general in the army. Arisaka Narizou! I'm sorry, sir! How've you been, Tsurumi? I see you're doing well, sir! Lt. General Arisaka's lost much of his hearing after spending years making weapons. I see. How was Asahikawa? Asahikawa's made a hot air balloon unit of their own, and they want to put some kind of weapon on it! Those things use hydrogen to float. One puncture and they're done for, so recon is the most you'll ever get out of them! And they're slow, too! The age of airplanes is upon us! Is that morphine, Tsurumi? Does your head wound still bother you? Actually, Tsurumi, has your attempt to grow poppies that can thrive in cold climates gotten anywhere? I'm trying to get money so I can expand the size of the fields. Opium makes money! International opinion has turned against England, and they're getting out of the opium business, you see. Lt. General Arisaka, please don't tell people about the poppy fields. Lt. General Arisaka came all the way to Otaru to see Lt. Tsurumi? There's no end to how deep the rabbit hole goes with him. I've brought the latest in domestically-produced weaponry. A Type-38 machine gun and Type-38 infantry rifle, developed by Nambu, one of my men! Beautiful... The beauty of the gun testifies to its function. You'll sell a million! But the more that sell, the more people will die! This is a cursed business I'm in! The things you make are beautiful, so make them! Beauty and power are one and the same. In search of functional beauty, you created a powerful weapon. And that which is beautiful should be praised! The 28 centimeter howitzers were gorgeous! The fire support they provided did not discriminate between friend and foe. It ripped apart the bodies of young men, and made the skies rain with gore and blood! I ran through those rains of blood, and it was beautiful! Your head is messed up, Tsurumi! Correct! I'm missing my frontal lobes! A large war will increase demand for painkillers... And Japan's high-quality weapons, too. That's what the Ainu gold will be used for. Bang! Bang! Bang! War will bring jobs to the people of Hokkaido. Bap-bap-bap. More wars will need to keep happening. It doesn't go bap-bap-bap! Get 'em! Shoot 'em all up! It's a war addiction! Bears attack humans with overwhelming power. But who blames the bear? Other bears. One of my men was attacked by a bear, and this is what he said! "It was a beautiful creature." That's an interesting guy you've got working for you! Lt. General Arisaka! He's very depressed right now! I know it's asking a lot, but do you suppose you could help him? You stole it again, huh? Give it back! I'll tell Lt. Tsurumi on you! Give it here! Nikaidou! You've got a wonderful visitor! A visitor? Who? Come in, sir! Who's that? Who is it? Who... who are you? I'm scared! Who the hell are you? Get lost! So you're Nikaidou, huh?! Who's this? I've come to give you a present! A present? What is it? I hope you like it! Your new leg! Aw, it's just a fake leg. Not just any fake leg, though! I made it on short notice, but it's got room for three rounds of buckshot. I could've put in more if I used rifle bullets, but a weapon like this is only useful at close quarters and in a surprise situation. If you want to make sure you stop an opponent at short range, buckshot's the way to go! Thank you, person I don't know! What are you doing? This is a hospital! Congratulations on your wonderful new leg, Nikaidou! Who the hell is this? His name is Suzukawa Kiyohiro. He's a marriage fraudster. A genius at disguise. We met in Abashiri. Abashiri? You were hiding that? I didn't say I'd share every bit of information I had. You didn't tell me either, old man. Don't worry. I was intending to meet him on the way to Abashiri. You crafty old geezer... What can a marriage fraudster do? Fraud involves the use of the brain. Don't compare me to a violent prison escapee, who steals things from others by force. So, what do you want me to do? Save Shiraishi from the 7th. We won't know where in the 7th's Asahikawa Barracks he's being kept unless someone gets in. So I pretend to be one of them? After the incident at the Kamuy Kotan, they'll be on their guard. You'd have to be someone important to get them to tell you. One of the upper brass from the division in Tokyo? No, the further up in the military you get, the more you know the people around you. A fictional officer would be found out instantly. A dog? How about Inudou Shirosuke? Inudou? The Warden of Abashiri Prison? Do they look similar? Nope. The odds of anyone in the 7th knowing the Warden of Abashiri are low. But unless you look almost identical, someone who knows him will see through the disguise. Will this work? Inudou is stern and fastidious. He's obsessed with following rules, but also willing to secretly lock me up forever out of personal hatred. His twisted nature appears on his face. It's true. Your personality shows on your face. For instance, if you see a bear with a face like a fox, it's one that's got a nasty temper. Right, Asirpa? No good. It's past her bedtime. How about this, then? So, how will you fool the 7th now that you look like the Warden of Abashiri? Don't be in such a hurry. I have an idea. I'll let you handle the rest. Leave her be. She's nasty when she's sleepy. Hah! She'll be a fine woman someday. What's wrong? I just remembered... You're the old man who showed up at the herring longhouse, aren't you? Was Shiraishi working with you? Shiraishi was working with them? Yeah. If that's true, it probably started a while ago. When Shiraishi reached out to grab my hand, I saw a clear hesitation. Given the situation, can't you look past that? So you admit it, then. There are no enemies or allies here. All that's important is information. He probably figured you'd kill him if you found out. That'd be just like him. What will you do? Will you still save him? And then kill him when you do? Someone who betrays you once will betray you again and again. Sugimoto... Don't kill anyone you don't have to. Asahikawa, the military city. As the czar's forces tried to sweep south, fortifying it became a critical mission. The establishment of railway tracks and a 7th Division garrison made it one of the largest cities in Hokkaido at the time, after Hakodate, Otaru, and Sapporo. The 7th's base is huge. Where is he? It's not a prison, so it can't be that hard to get on base, but... There's no way we can check out each individual building. Should we make them hand Shiraishi over to us? The insignia number of the men who took Shiraishi was "27." That's one of the four infantry regiments at Asahikawa... The 27th Infantry Regiment. This is their barracks. Wait a second. The 27th? What is it, Ogata? Are you guys idiots? Oh, right! So they're in the same regiment as Lt. Tsurumi? It's very likely that the 27th is hiding Shiraishi. The regiment is lead by Lt. Colonel Yodogawa, who's under Lt. Tsurumi's control. What? The Warden of Abashiri wants to meet me? What does he want? I am Inudou Shirosuke, the Warden of Abashiri Prison. Nice to meet you. Inudou... Next Time: "Inside the Belly." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 05 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [4E1C52D1] I am Inudou Shirosuke, Warden of Abashiri Prison. Nice to meet you. Inudou... Um... who is this? Sugimoto, my guard. Five years ago, a brutal criminal named Ienaga bit off his face. He may look like this, but he's very good at his job. Inudou... Very sorry to hear that. I dunno how that actually worked. I was told Shiraishi Yoshitake is here. I want him sent back to Abashiri. Shiraishi? There's no man here with that name. Where did he find out? Who told him? I don't like being told lies to to my face! Inu... dou... Not only did you illegally transport prisoners from Abashiri during my absence, you allowed all of them to escape. I'm trying to clean up the mess that you, the 7th, made, Regiment Commander! Contact Lt. Tsurumi in Otaru. Now. A man calling himself Inudou Shirosuke? In Asahikawa? All this money... What are you thinking? Are you telling me you'll buy Shiraishi Yoshitake with this money? No. These bills are fake. This is the plate used to make them. Confiscated from a genius counterfeiter we arrested. Are you aware of the Continental dollar during the American Revolution, or Napoleon's counterfeit gulden? Spreading counterfeit currency in a time of war to cause economic chaos is an extremely effective measure. He would be able to make an accurate copy of any nation's currency. I think he'd be quite a valuable asset to the Japanese Army in the future. Are you interested? I thought he was just a washed-up marriage fraudster. This explains why Hijikata kept him as a secret weapon. Suzukawa Kiyohiro is no ordinary con artist! One more push and the Lt. Colonel will give in! I'll offer you a trade. Shiraishi for the counterfeiter. Lt. Colonel Yodogawa... After the Russo-Japanese War, every other lieutenant colonel made full colonel. But you haven't. Don't you think you're being treated unfairly? This will be your path to promotion. Hello, is this a local or long-distance call? Long-distance! Connect me to the 7th Division in Asahikawa, Regiment 27's Command HQ! It's Tsurumi! Don't go along with Lt. Colonel Yodogawa's decision! Don't let anybody see Shiraishi! If Inudou Shirosuke were to take a single step out of Abashiri, my men there would tell me! You're too close to the receiver, Lt. Tsurumi! Send Second Lt. Koito there, now! That's... That's not good. That's one of Lt. Tsurumi's favorite Satsuma messengers. What is this? What's going on? One of my men is out front with the counterfeiter. Let's do the exchange with Shiraishi outside. After the incident at Abashiri, I trust you far less. I see... They look a lot alike, but this is a fake Inudou. And from the shape of his clothes, the weirdo is Sugimoto. They came to get me back? What is it, Second Lt. Koito? Lt. Tsurumi told you not to let anybody make contact with Shiraishi until he arrives. This isn't good. He works for Tsurumi? Are you forced to obey the lieutenant's orders, Lt. Colonel Yodogawa? Leave. Nobody called for you. Inudou... Chinchin nukinammoshita naa. Chinchin...? I've heard that Inudou spent a great deal of time with prisoners from Satsuma during his time as warden of Kabato Prison in Tsukigata, and is thus able to speak the Satsuma dialect well. Koito, what are you doing? Sakki, oiga nanchuutaka, kotaetemikkunyanse. Yo ga heruto hiekkumonde na. That's why he's a genius, I guess. He mastered that in such a short time. I have no idea what they're saying. Are they really both Japanese? Lt. Tsurumi's information told me that Inudou Shirosuke couldn't drink at all. Bastards... I should've just thrown him into the goddamn river! Wait! Don't kill Shiraishi! Lt. Tsurumi will get mad at you! And by you, I mean me! Sugimoto! I am Immortal Sugimoto! After them! Yes, sir! They have allies outside? Ow... This way, Shiraishi! Kiroranke and the others have horses waiting! Sugimoto, are you okay? Run, Shiraishi! Don't let them get away! Sugimoto, you can't get out this way! Run to the south! That way! Those gunshots made the bees leave their nests. Sugimoto was shot! He's immortal, right? Run or die. That's crazy! Sugimoto's hurt, he can't keep running! If I stop running... Shiraishi, you take Asirpa to Abashiri Prison. What the hell is that? A prototype for a hot air balloon unit. That's it! Let's steal it! Everyone, get back! Further back! Give it to me! I said hurry it up! Get back, or we'll shoot! You can't! You might ignite the hydrogen! Capture them! Let go, damn it! That's my sword! Second Lt. Koito! What the hell is that? Sugimoto's group is on it! So those gunshots were from them! They're using that to escape. Give me a bayonet. I'll handle this. He uses Jigen style, traditional Satsuma swordsmanship. You can't fight him with two bullets in you. Ogata Hyakunosuke! You bastard! As usual, I have no idea what you're saying, Second Lt. Koito. When you get upset, you start talking quickly in Satsuma dialect. Don't block it! Shiraishi! Shiraishi! Bye-bye, Koito! Shiraishi, you're about to slam into the trees! Ow! Ow! Asirpa! One of the bullets passed through your shoulder, but the other is still in your left breast. We need to get it out later. You took a risk like that to get me back? I'm the Escape King! I could've gotten away myself. Everyone was going to give up on you. It was Sugimoto who said we had to save you. Really? You'll help us when we get to Abashiri. I know it. I believed in you. That's why I decided to save you. But I remembered something, Shiraishi. That strange old man we met at the herring fishery longhouse... You were working with Hijikata, weren't you? Wait, Shiraishi! Don't run away! Look at this! That's... The copy of Henmi Kazuo's tattoos that you gave to Ushiyama in Sapporo. Hijikata Toshizou showed it to me. I took a careful look... And it was a fake. Shiraishi never betrayed us. Yes, that's right! I told you that I'd bet on you! Hey... It's acting weird. Stop it. That's dangerous! Pawci casi. It means "village where the Pawci-Kamuy live." It's said to be the fortress of the Pawci-Kamuy. The Pawci are sex demons. Not very good gods. Anyone they possess will strip off their clothes and start dancing. That's ridiculous. The Ainu have a big imagination, huh? We're about forty kilometers away from the 7th Division's barracks. I saw soldiers on horses following us from the air. That thing's not exactly hard to spot. They'll know about where we are. If we don't hurry, they'll catch up to you. We need to treat Sugimoto. I found some retannoya, or alpine yarrow. Put its crushed leaves on the wound, and they can stop the bleeding. Second Lt. Koito shot me with a Type 26 revolver. Once, somebody shot that gun at a pig's nose, and the bullet bounced right off. It's incredibly weak. You can't kill me with something like that. Suzukawa was weaker than a pig's nose, though. Suzukawa was killed? They found us! Hurry! We need to cross the Daisetsuzan to flee. Seriously? Those mountains? Oh, no! The weather's suddenly gotten bad! The wind is so cold. The wind's just going to get stronger, and it will start raining, too! This is impossible! Let's head back! Don't be stupid! They're following us! Do we dig a hole in the snow and hide there? No! There's not enough snow left to do it! Shiraishi's acting strange! Look for a place to hide from the wind! Or you'll die from hypothermia! Yuk! Sugimoto, shoot the bucks! We need three of the big ones! We shoot the deer? Two at the same time? Hurry and skin them! It doesn't have to be a perfect job! We'll hide in the deer's bodies? Inside the deer's corpses? A Pawci Kamuy got him! He's gone crazy! Shiraishi! Sugimoto, you can't run with that wound! You and Ogata need to skin the deer! Shiraishi? Asirpa is still... Hey, Sugimoto! Asirpa! Asirpa! Where are you, Asirpa? Sugimoto! Sugimoto! I lost Shiraishi. He came back. Great. Asirpa, are you okay? You look pale. I'm fine. What about you? Let's head back. Sugimoto! Why didn't you shoot? This thing is me! Does your wound bother you, Sugimoto? I'm fine. It'll be better by tomorrow morning. Did Suzukawa suffer? How did he die? Asirpa, Suzukawa was a bad man. Bad men don't have human hearts. So they feel less pain than normal people. So you don't need to feel sympathy for them. Are you making fun of me because I'm a kid? You can't fool me like that. That's what I've tried to think. During the war, I said that the enemy weren't like us. They didn't suffer as they died. On the battlefield, you need to destroy yourself and become someone else if you want to fight. Otherwise, we couldn't have survived. Was everyone able to go back to who they were before? Some were, I'm sure. They went home, spent time with their families... Maybe you can get the old you back that way. Those who couldn't go back to normal after coming back to Japan... Their hearts are still on the battlefield. Asirpa, are you eating something? Deer liver. You have some, too. You lost a lot of blood. I want to eat the brains, too, but we'll wait until the wind stops. You really do love brains, Asirpa. What do you love, besides osoma? Food? Dried persimmons, I guess. What's that? That's right... there are no persimmon trees in Hokkaido. You take bitter persimmons and dry them out. After you dry them, they become really sweet. I haven't had one for years. The last time I did was before I left for the war. You didn't have any when you came back? It was spring. There weren't any. I see. If you eat dried persimmons, will you go back to who you were before the war? Once it's all over... Take me to your homeland. I want to try dried persimmons, too. Got it, Sugimoto? Next Time: "Ani Nekko." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 06 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [B40D56FE] Looks like they're nowhere near us. I guess that weather was too much even for the 7th. I can't see them just giving up and going home, though. They'll be expecting us to head down the mountain towards Abashiri. We'll do what they're not expecting, head toward Tokachi, and shake them off. Let's do it. We told Kiroranke Nispa and the others to meet in Abashiri if we got separated. I sent a telegram to Otaru to check on Huci when we left Yuubari. We should get the answer here at this post office. From who? Asirpa's uncle. He used to work with the Japanese, so he knows how to read and write a little. What does it say? "Huci making raikurushiyuku." What's "raikurushiyuku"? Raykur Siyuk... a burial shroud. When an elderly Ainu knows that death is near, they prepare their own burial shroud in secret. Why did you say that? I just told her what the spirits told me. There is a traitor near Asirpa. I don't want Huci to die. When she fed me, she said the Ainu consider children sacred. Without them, you cannot go to the other world. When an Ainu dies, those left behind must perform a ritual before they can pass on to the afterlife. That is why they educate all children with care. Cikapasi, don't worry. I'll bring Asirpa back safe and cheer up Huci. That's my job. She fed me, too, so I'm one of her kids. No way. You're her gigolo, Tanigaki Nispa. He sure is. The role in life I've been looking for... Lt. Tsurumi, have you ever heard of a food called kanemochi? It's a portable emergency ration we Ani Matagi use. We make one shaped like a ball and one shaped like an oval, and take both into the mountains with us. Supposedly the round one is the sun and the oval one is the moon. Kanemochi, huh? I've never heard of it. How's it taste? No different than other mochi? We add water to rice powder, then mix in miso or salt. Knead thoroughly, wrap in a leaf, and then bake in a covered pan in the ashes of the hearth. Tozawa Matagi, by the way, are forbidden from adding miso to their kanemochi. So each village has its own rules, huh? My dad was a very stern and uncompromising man, so I never told anybody, but I actually did something a little special to my own kanemochi. But one day another Matagi found out. How? We were hunting a wild goat we Matagi call an "aoshishi." Matagi travel in small groups, and each member has a different role to play in the hunt. There's a scout called a mukaimatte who gives orders to the whole group. Then two riflemen called matsumai. And two seko who aren't allowed to use guns yet. The seko's job is to shout and drive the prey into the riflemen's sights. The bears that the Matagi call itazu have a tendency to run uphill into the mountains. So the seko drive them toward the peak. But the aoshishi are the opposite. We try to drive them away from the peaks. I was a seko, out with a boy a year older than me named Aoyama Kenkichi. When we got to the peak, the weather suddenly changed. We sought refuge in a cave, but the blizzard continued, trapping us for days. The beans and rice we'd brought quickly ran out. The kanemochi serves as the last meal you can eat at times like that. No matter how cold it gets, it doesn't freeze, and it never spoils. And just nibbling a little fills you up. Ken... What? I was just thinking this might be our last meal. Hell no. I'm surviving, even if I have to cook and eat you. Hey, did you mix something in to this kanemochi? What is this? Wait. Don't tell me. I'll guess. It's... I know! Walnuts! You put walnuts into it, Genjirou. Yup. But don't tell my dad, Kenkichi. Hey, Genjirou... We're getting out of this alive. Yeah. After that, Kenkichi married my younger sister, Fumi, and we became in-laws. I see. Fumi and Kenkichi moved to a village in the mountains, where they lived peacefully. On that day, I was making kanemochi at home. My brother came in from outside, with a look on his face like I'd never seen before. Fumi is...! When I saw the panic in his eyes, I felt like I'd been stabbed with an icicle. By the time I arrived, the little hut where the two of them lived was already... Inside, I found her body burnt to a crisp. Why? What happened? What happened?! Fumi! There was a stab wound in her heart. And next to her, Kenkichi's masuke. The short blade we call a masuke is the soul of a Matagi. Kenkichi was nowhere to be found. Where the hell is Kenkichi? Our son has never come back here! Please don't hurt us! You're not hiding him, are you? I searched everywhere, but never found him. But one day, I heard a rumor that he'd joined the 7th in Hokkaido. Give it up, Genjirou. Don't abandon Ani for revenge. Don't waste your life. I can't give up after he killed my sister! Screw being a Matagi. I'm never coming back. There were 37 Tondenhei villages in Hokkaido. Between my military training and the farming I did, I looked for Kenkichi, but had no luck. Just before we left for war, my brother sent me a message telling me my mother was dead. Fumi's brutal death. The fact that I'd abandoned my homeland to go to war. The two of them were too much for her frail heart. She quickly became sick and died. My hatred swelled as I told myself Kenkichi was responsible for everything. If I went to Port Arthur, where the soldiers from Hokkaido were gathering, I could find Kenkichi. And when I found him, I'd wait for my chance in the middle of the battle, and shoot him from behind! I saw a haggard man sitting in the corner of one of the trenches. His face was so covered in blood, either his own or that of an enemy, that I couldn't make it out, but... A white sash... This man is a survivor of last night's suicide charge! I'm amazed he survived. Got any food? Y-Yeah. Eat. Thanks. I appreciate it. It's got a firm texture. Is this... mochi? I taste miso. Is it some kind of Akita dish? How did you know it was Akita? I knew it. The way you said "eat" just now. That's Akita dialect, right? There was a private in the 1st Division, where I'm from, who was from a place called Ani in Akita. He told me about it. He said he was a hunter back home before he came to Tokyo. It was Kenkichi. I'd finally found my sister's killer. He'd gone to Tokyo, not Hokkaido. The soldiers at Hill 203 were from the Hokkaido 7th, the Shikoku 11th, the Kanazawa 9th, and the Tokyo 1st. Yes. The gods had helped me find my sister's killer. That's how it felt to me. I wanted to go find him immediately, but I knew if I saw him, I'd lose control. I still had the mental calmness left to want to bring an end to this journey of revenge in the middle of a battle, where I wouldn't be caught. But that hill... ...wasn't the sort of place where I'd have time to look for Kenkichi. The Russians threw grenades, and we threw them right back. As we began to push them back further and further, they tied grenades to their bodies and jumped into our trenches. That was rough. One Russian would take out ten of us. And then another came. Stop him! Two or three hits from a Type 30 didn't even slow him down. And then a lone man came running out of one of the trenches. Kenkichi! Kenkichi just barely survived. At last, the moment I'd been waiting for was here. That's how it seemed to me. Kenkichi, I finally found you! I'll stab you in the heart, just like you did to Fumi! Tanigaki, he's done for. He can't even hear you. His eardrums have probably been destroyed! Fumi... The battle had just reached a stalemate, and the whole place became strangely quiet. Why? Why'd you kill Fumi, Kenkichi? Wh-Who are you? I don't know who you are. But I want you to take a message... ...to a man named Tanigaki in Ani, up in Akita. I married the Tanigaki family's daughter. She was so beautiful. Far too good for me. The two of us lived quietly, deep in the mountains. One day, she became sick with smallpox. Don't tell my mom or dad. Fumi! If you do, they'll get worried and come here. And if it spreads to them... Fumi! You can't stay here, either. Wh-What are you saying? We'll die together! When a member of a mountain family catches smallpox, we abandon that family member so it won't spread. But I couldn't do it. I'd heard a story about animals finding their way into an abandoned home, and killing the defenseless sick people inside. I couldn't let her die alone. But she kept telling me to leave her... If it was found out that one of the Tanigakis got smallpox, the rest of the village would shun them. The other Matagi would refuse to hunt with the rest of her family. She wanted me to kill her and leave the village before anyone found out. She covered her pox-riddled face with a cloth, and said to me... If it doesn't spread to you, you must decide how to spend the rest of your life. Find your role in life. Fumi... And at last, I... The two of us both thought of a way for her to suffer as little as possible. I am a hunter, so I used the method I knew best. Just like Fumi told me, I burned down our home, and left the village without telling her family about her death. I've spent the rest of my life bearing the guilt of killing her. My actions have caused great pain to her family. If I can heal those wounds in any way... Please. Please, tell this story to Tanigaki in Ani, Akita. Kanemochi with walnuts... Genjirou, is that you? And then, he died. Kenkichi found his role in life, and spent the rest of his days carrying it out. I can't go back to Ani now. I can't face my brother or father. Tanigaki... I need you. First, will you start by making me some of these kanemochi with walnuts? Of course. Hey, look at that. Somebody's dancing all the way out there. Isn't that Asirpa? This is a dance from Kushiro, huh? The sarorunrimse... The crane dance. Somebody's coming. Look! I knew it, it's Asirpa! Cikapasi and Cironnup... And Tanigaki. How? Next Time: "Kamuy Hopunire." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 07 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [FA3AB308] We finally found you! We've been looking for you since Otaru! For me? We met an Ainu hunter over there and asked them. Hey, did you see an Ainu girl? She should be with a Japanese man with a scar on his face. Oh, the one we just saw? They were amazed you'd come so far! They wanted us to all come visit them in their kotan! They hunted a bear! Let's go, Asirpa! Let's go, Sugimoto! There's bear stew waiting for us! I'd rather hit the local bars on Inkarmat's dime! No way! Inkarmat is part of my family! Family? Yeah! She doesn't get mad if I touch her boobs, and Tanigaki Nispa is her gigolo. Correct. Why are they here? Gigolo... No, um... Oh, you found them? Welcome! The Kamuy Hopunire is about to begin. Have a good time. Kamuy Hopunire means "The Setting-Off of Gods." It's a ceremony. They send off the hunted bear. It's a different ritual than an iomante, where they send off a bear that was raised in a cage. That shout is called an okokokse. It's to tell the god of fire that a bear has been hunted. The "kamuy" are things that humans can't do, things that help us, and things that bring us disaster. Fire is a critical part of our lives. Blades cut cleanly through things we can't cut on our own. So they have kamuy within them. Trees are kamuy that sit on the mountains. Bad weather and plagues are beyond human power to control, so they're kamuy, too. But it's not that they're so much greater than humanity. We think of them as equals. We've always believed that when we're hunting, we don't hit the prey with our arrows, but instead the kamuy run into them for us. We invite them to our world, and in exchange for their meat and pelts, they ask for sake and tobacco, things that only we can make. Then we send off the kamuy with a proper ritual, so that they'll tell the other kamuy that the human world is a good place. If we don't treat them properly, they'll never come back down to our world. After this, the bear's head will be taken to an outdoor altar decorated with inaw. Inaw are shaven wood sticks that are given to the kamuy as a gift. When a kamuy has many inaw, its status in its own world grows. It's said the inaw we give it transforms into silver and gold, and become valuable treasures for it to keep. So even in the afterlife gold is valuable, and if you have lots of it, you'll be happy, huh? What's that cironnup thinking? Asirpa... I have something important to tell you. I've come here to tell you about Huci. Huci... You came all the way from Otaru to tell her that, Private Tanigaki? Private Ogata... Lt. Tsurumi actually sent you here to watch me, right? No... I'm done with the army. That old lady helped me, so I'm bringing her granddaughter back safe. That's my job. I don't know if I believe you. You were a fervent believer in Lt. Tsurumi. You killed three men in the mountains. In the mountains? You mean the three who were with Tanigaki? It was a bear that killed them. I was there. So I know for sure. A bear? The old lady had a dream where she never saw her granddaughter again? It's just a dream. Send a damn letter. We Ainu have always believed that dreams are something the kamuy send when they have something to show us. I don't believe that, but Huci is one of the old Ainu. She had a dream a long time ago... In the dream, her daughter was surrounded by bears, sending her off to the next world. Soon after that my mother got sick and died, she told me. That's why she believes in dreams so vigorously. Asirpa, do you want to just head back? If she sees your face even once, it makes her dream no longer a prophecy, right? She'll feel better. You don't have to force yourself to stay here. Don't treat me like a child, Sugimoto. There's something I want to know, no matter what. I'm going to learn what I need to know, and go forward for the sake of my own dream. Hey, Tanigaki Nispa. I've been wondering about that Murata gun. Did that belong to Nihei Tetsuzou? You knew Nihei? We hunted bears together over a decade ago. He was so good at it, I thought there wouldn't be any bears left in the area. Nihei died in the mountains. I took the gun from his body. I see. But you must have a hard time using an old gun like that. Nihei Tetsuzou turned me from a soldier back into a Matagi. I decided to carry it, so I don't forget how to feel when I shoot my prey. "Always end the battle in one bullet"? See those seven small marks on the barrel? Nihei told me what they meant. I've got a lot of kids, but only one son. This is the gun he used in the first Sino-Japanese War. A friend of his gave it to me, and told me that each mark on the barrel was added when he shot an enemy. Maybe he just stopped counting after the seventh, or maybe he died after. Either way, he wasn't the sort of person who would enjoy shooting people. He wasn't a soldier. He was a wimp who'd feel guilt after killing someone. He should have stayed home and shot bears with me. I-Is that you, Ryu? Ryu?! It's Ryu! What's Nihei's dog doing here? Did you bring him? No... Ryu, were you... Were you following Tanigaki the whole time, since he had Nihei's gun?! You're such a great dog. Ow, ow, ow, ow! That hurt, you stupid animal! Get lost! Ryu's a loyal dog. He won't forget his master's enemies. What will you do now, Tanigaki? I'll follow you until Asirpa achieves her goal. I see. Asirpa, once we get to town, I'll send a telegram to Huci. Okay! All right, off to Abashiri we go, Asirpa! Right! Lt. Tsurumi will scold me! When he heard I let Shiraishi Yoshitake get away, he must've been really upset! How did he look? Sergeant Tsukishima, did Lt. Tsurumi say anything about me? You don't need to tell me! I know, Tsukishima! I'm... I'm going to be sent to Abashiri to watch Inudou Shirosuke! Second Lt. Koito, calm down. See? I brought the photos you asked for. These are great, Tsukishima! There's no scar on his face, so this must have been taken before the Battle of Mukden! I'm jealous of you, Sergeant Tsukishima. If I'd only been born a little earlier, I could've fought with him. This is perfect! Tsukishima, crush up some rice to use as glue! No. I didn't know you were here, Second Lt. Koito! Hey. Sunmohan! Oiga toborenkatta de Shiraishi wo hinnigashite shimaimashita! Jaddon irezumi dake wa jizen ni utsuchoimoshita. Jacchiten yurusarui wake ja aimohandon! Calm down. I can't make out high-speed Satsuma dialect. Deep breaths. Hinnigashite shimaimoshita don shiraishin irezumi ha utsuchichoimoshita. I don't understand you! Tsukishima! Tell him Shiraishi got away, but I made a copy of his tattoos. He says he made a copy of Shiraishi's tattoos. Why am I the only one who gets the high-speed Satsuma dialect, Second Lt. Koito? I ordered you not to kill Shiraishi because I thought he had value. And you let him fall into enemy hands... I'm disappointed in you, Second Lt. Koito. That looks great on you! That's the skin of the prisoner who was pretending to be Inudou, right? This is an unexpected bonus. From what we've learned, it's safe to assume these tattoos belonged to the con artist Suzukawa Kiyohiro. Well done, Second Lt. Koito. But... The lines aren't quite right. Sunmohan! Sunmohan! That's what I'm talking about, Second Lt. Koito. Sunmohan! Sunmohan! You're off the Asahikawa mission. From now on... You're helping me hunt the other prisoners. He says, "I'll do my best." This is such a pain. You're sure it was Ogata Hyakunosuke who was aboard the airship with Shiraishi and Sugimoto, right? "Yes." "He disgraces the noble suicide of Ogata's father Hanazawa Koujirou, the former commander of the 7th Division." "Even my father feels strong distrust towards central command for the way they blamed Lt. General Hanazawa's suicide on the 7th Division." "So what is Ogata thinking?" Second Lt. Koito's father was, like Lt. General Hanazawa, born in Satsuma, and they were both friends. Is that correct? The cause of the suicide was central command placing the full blame for the high casualties on 203 Hill at Lt. General Hanazawa's feet. I believed that, of course, Ogata Hyakunosuke would fight for his father's honor and for the 7th division, but... At the time, my father was a Lt. Colonel in the 1st Imperial Guard Regiment. Given his position, he must've been rather irritated to have an Asakusa geisha bear his child. When a son was born to his wife, my grandmother told me he stopped coming entirely. My grandmother took my mother and me, when I was still a baby, back to her home in Ibaraki. My mother used to make monkfish stew. Fugu in the west and monkfish in the east, they'd say. It was a local dish for the lower classes. I liked it. I ate it a lot. But I ate it every day. In the winter, every day, my mom... ...would try to make monkfish stew. My father said he liked it, so she thought he might come back to eat it. Every single day... She'd gone crazy. I took an old gun my grandfather had out to the field and shot a bird. I thought that if I brought it home, my mom might not make monkfish stew. But no matter how many birds I hunted, she kept making monkfish stew. That's why I... When my grandparents were gone, I put rat poison into the monkfish stew and fed it to her. If my father had any love left for my mother, he would come to the funeral, I thought. In the end, she would see the man she loved. But... You never came. Don't tell me this is out of hatred for me abandoning you? You took pity on your insane mother, but you were sick of her, too. Just like me! Children don't get to pick their parents. "Love" is as vague a concept as "God." But if you did have any love for my mother, you wouldn't have abandoned her. Perhaps a child born between parents that lack love... ...comes out missing something. No matter how great his father's bloodline is. The fact that Second Lt. Hanazawa Yuusaku, the child you had with your wife, is a nobleman proves that. I only met him after I joined the military, and I didn't know how to react. He called me "big brother," no matter how many times I told him he outranked me. He never left me alone. He said he'd grown up always wanting a brother. That innocent smile... It made me realize that this was a boy... ...who'd grown up beloved by his parents. By the way, his father would've had no way to know the truth about how Second Lt. Hanazawa Yuusaku really died at Hill 203. I shot him in the back of the head. Not out of any jealousy toward him, or even really a desire to make his father suffer. I just wanted to see something... When he heard of Yuusaku's death, would the father think of me, or suddenly care much more for the other son he had with his mistress? Was there ever a chance for me to be happy, too? You're right... You're missing something. You're a failure of a son! A curse upon you! The brass will make the 7th take responsibility for his suicide. It will be a difficult time for us, but you must endure. With an external enemy, the 7th will come together even more! The 7th will make the only surviving son of Lt. General Hanazawa into a hero. They'll see in you the god of war they lost! Well done, Ogata Hyakunosuke. Well done. Goddamn seducer. Next Time: "Blue Eyes." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 08 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [FCD0AED3] Sunfish? The sunfish float to the surface of the water in summer to take a nap, so you get on top of them and take out their meat and organs. You just want to eat everything that's in season, don't you? I sewed it back together. Thank you. You've done so much for me. And Cikapasi, too. Not at all. I feel so much safer on the road while a man's with me. You're usually cold to me, but when it counts, you're kind. He's offering us some sea otter meat. Sea otter? I've never had any. Thank you. What did he say? I'll go get some beach rose fruit. What's that black cloud? Oh, no... I hate grasshoppers. And you call yourself "immortal." This ain't good. Aah! They're eating our clothes! That police lodge! Evacuate over there! Inkarmat should've been close... It won't kill her! Just get inside! Ow! What the hell is that? A locust swarm. When you get the right conditions, after a flood or something, you get a ton of locusts. They move in swarms over dozens of kilometers. They can cross the sea if they want to. They'll eat your crops, of course, but also the paper walls of your house and your clothes. How long will it take for them to pass by? I'm hungry... Is Asirpa okay? Inkarmat! Come here! You saved me. It's safe out here. I wanted to talk to you alone. This is a good chance. Tell me everything you know about my father. Sea otter meat has a... unique smell. Can we really eat this? Something's wrong... Shiraishi just looked... sexy. Sugimoto, you okay? Oh, dear. My button burst off again. That Matagi... is so hot! I feel so dizzy... Are you okay, Ogata? Lie down! Now! We should unbutton his shirt so he can breathe better. Take off his pants, too. No, everything! Ow! They bit my ears! Hey there, guys. Kiroranke... I knew your father well. I met him when I was your age. Do you hate him? Of course not. I've always been on his side, and yours. You expect me to believe that? You used lies to scare Huci, and used Tanigaki to follow me. I didn't lie to Huci. You should return to Otaru. I don't believe in fortune-telling. I'm going to find out the truth myself. Nopperabo, the man in Abashiri Prison, isn't your father. Your father, Wilk, wasn't the kind of man who could kill Ainu and steal their gold. When I first met him, Wilk had just come to Hokkaido, and spoke the Ainu language with a Sakhalin accent. He had deep blue eyes, like yours. He said he was born of a Polish father and a Sakhalin Ainu mother. He said that Sakhalin was filled with Poles who had been oppressed by the czar and exiled to the Far East. Ever since he was young, Wilk had worked with the other ethnic minorities to try and obtain liberation from the czar. He fought, was wounded, and fled to Otaru in Hokkaido. At the time, I'd already begun my career as a wandering fortune-teller. I spent every day with him. Wilk accepted what I told him of the Ainu. Our beliefs, customs, language, food... everything. He recovered from his wounds here, and came to love the Hokkaido Ainu. I don't believe my father is Nopperabo, either. But my father never told me about you! My father said he learned everything from my mother. I don't believe anything you say! To Wilk, I was still a child. Maybe he forgot me. If you say Nopperabo is a different person, then where is my father now? He's gone. Wilk was murdered. By Kiroranke, his former friend. I got separated from Hijikata's group at Asahikawa, and haven't seen them since. I guessed that you'd head down the mountains to Tokachi to avoid the 7th. And then I heard at a local kotan that someone saw you. Anyway... Sugimoto, you've gotten a lot... hotter... since we last met. Stop it. So cute. So cute. So cute! Kiro, you look like you've been working out, too. You think so? What do you think, Tanigaki? What is this feeling...? I can't control it! I've never felt this before! How do I get rid of this feeling? But... I can't... control it anymore! Let's play sumo! Wow, great idea! Good times. The grasshoppers are gone. Yeah... We got a little out of control. Yeah... Tell no one of this. Yeah. Inkarmat... It's believed that the meat of the sea otters functions as a powerful aphrodisiac. When one of them loses a partner, they have no outlet for their lusts, and they die. W-Wait! What's gotten into you? You can blame it on the sea otter meat you ate, Tanigaki Nispa. If you go to Abashiri, you'll run into Kiroranke again. He's a very dangerous man. You'll lose both the gold and the tattoos in the end. I can't imagine that Kiroranke Nispa would kill my father. I have proof. Asirpa! You were there all night? Oh, there you are. It's Asirpa! I'm so glad you're safe. Kiroranke! What are you doing here? Hey, Asirpa. Kiroranke Nispa, did you kill my father? Me? Where's this coming from? She confronted him directly right after I told her. Silly girl. The proof is... ...the fingerprints left on this betting ticket. What? Fingerprints? Inkarmat! Every set of fingerprints is different. Outside of Japan, they've been using them in criminal investigations for several years. At the horse racing track in Naganuma, I took fingerprints from the men, and had them matched. Kiroranke's matched those taken several years ago at a certain place... The place where Asirpa's father was murdered. Murdered? There were fingerprints on his makiri blade, she says. You said you hadn't seen my father for years, right? Come on. If I'm the killer, then who's Nopperabo, the guy in the prison? Hold it. She's working with Lt. Tsurumi. Stop! What proof do you have? Tanigaki Genjirou... She seduced you over to her side, huh? It was Lt. Tsurumi who recovered the items left at the murder scene. In other words, he's the only one with the recorded fingerprints. I was just using Lt. Tsurumi. One hell of a woman, ain't she, Tanigaki? You believe information given to you by Lt. Tsurumi? If we start killing each other, that's just what he wants. Right? Asirpa... I understand that you don't want to believe your father is Nopperabo. But there can't be that many people in the world capable of coming up with the idea of tattooing a code on human skins. You know that, don't you? Which of them is it? Which one is telling the truth? Shiraishi... You're the only one here who met Nopperabo in jail. Did he really have blue eyes like Asirpa? I never said he had blue eyes. I always tried to avoid staring at his nasty face. Does Nopperabo really have no face? All he ever did was silently make the tattoos. The escape plan itself came down to the prisoners from Hijikata Toshizou. Maybe Hijikata Toshizou set the whole thing up? I don't know what you want, Inkarmat. I want to protect the gold, as an Ainu woman. Did Asirpa's father, Wilk, feel the same way? Yes. That's why he was killed by Kiroranke, a fellow member of his guerrilla organization. That's what I think. It's possible that the fingerprints were falsified by Lt. Tsurumi. I can't prove that you're wrong. But if I end up dead in the future, it will be Kiroranke who kills me. Did you sleep with me to protect yourself from him? No. What happened last night was due to the sea otter stew. Sea otter! Another telegram came to the old Ainu lady in Otaru from Tanigaki in Kushiro. He's met up with them, it seems. Good. I think it's time for us to head to Abashiri too, then. My sons are Hokkaido Ainu. The gold exists for the Ainu of this land. My goal is the same as yours. So, what do we do? Everybody is suspicious of each other. I don't want anybody killing me in my sleep. We just have to get there. When we meet Nopperabo, we'll know if he's Asirpa's father. Our goal hasn't changed, we still need to go to Abashiri. So let's do this. Inkarmat, Kiroranke... If one of you ends up dead on our journey... I'll automatically kill the other one. Just kidding. New kid. You curious about that guy? Yeah, I guess. You don't see many people with faces like that. Let me give you a warning, since I've been here longer. The first thing you have to learn here is to stay away from Nopperabo. Nopperabo is transferred from one cell to another almost every day. If there's any kind of pattern to the way they're moving him, we may be able to predict where he'll be in a few days. So this is a pig farm? There are crates back there. Carry them outside. Okay. New kid... Leave your katana. If you trip on it, you'll end up covered in pig shit. Okay... Where are the crates? Chief Kadokura? So that new kid is working with the 7th? Take care of him, Security Chief Kadokura. You want me to do it? Use the prisoners. They're all good at murder. This is my prison. Anybody who tries to mess with me will end up as pig food. Don't hate me for this, new kid. Ch-Chief Kadokura...? Chief Kadokura! Where are you? Huh? My katana... Chief Kadokura... You've gotta be kidding me! He's really strong! I don't pick fights I can't win. I fed him to the pigs. Just like you said. He fought harder than expected, and both the new kid and the prisoners were badly wounded. I finished all three of them. I reported the new kid as missing and the other two as dying after a brawl. Chief Kadokura, you've been here seven years, right? Yeah. I always thought of you as a wimpy tanuki of a man, with limp, flaccid balls. I assumed that if I looked up "useless" in the dictionary, I'd see your picture. But today, I'm going to adjust my opinion of you just a little. Thanks... I'll never forget that. I had more research to do here. I underestimated Chief Kadokura. Lt. Tsurumi will scold me! What? Damn it! I can't see a thing! Where are they? Leave the horses and the money. Next Time: "The Sound of an Ambush." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 09 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [F56144C3] Pekanpe? You found a lot. I grabbed them as we passed through Lake Touro. When? "Pekanpe" means "things which float on the lake surface." They're Japanese water chestnuts. We use them as a nonperishable food in winter. These things are so thorny. Ancient ninjas used to dry them and use them as caltrops, right? Ninja? Kotan-kor Kamuy is noisy lately. A type of owl. It's a kamuy that protects the village. It yells at the demons that come from the top of the mountains in a loud voice. We can't just rely on the kamuy for everything. If they come, the village men will risk their lives to fight. "They"? Bandits that have come to live in this area. They travel through the darkness without even torches, coming through the forest to attack. None of them can see. They're blind bandits. Someone saw them during an attack. Their leader's body has strange tattoos. An escaped prisoner from Abashiri? One of the ones doing hard labor on Mt. Iwo. His name is Toni Anji. It was said that nobody sent to Mt. Iwo ever came back. Iwo means "sulfur." It's a critical resource used in gunpowder and other things. But when you come into contact with the escaping hydrogen sulfide, it destroys the eyes. It took just six months for them to shut down the operation, and in that time forty-two died and who knows how many went blind. But I heard a rumor that it was secretly restarted, and Warden Inudou is lending out prisoners to it. The ones who fled before they were killed are Toni's bandits. During the last new moon the village next to ours was attacked. They're careful. They attack entire villages in large groups, and always on the new moon, when there's no light. It'd be faster to find their hideout than wait for the new moon. There's a hot springs inn run by a Japanese near here. You may learn something there. Hot springs? That sounds great! I'd love to take a bath. Asirpa, is something wrong? No. I just heard sounds from the forest I'd never heard before. Was I imagining it? I've touched the bodies of many different people. But I've never seen such soft muscle before. My hands are sinking in it. Like a big cat... no, a tiger. What a wonderful gift heaven has given you. And these deep wounds all over your body... How did you even survive? Did you know this, masseuse? When the Ainu have a funeral, they damage the individual's kimono and possessions. That takes out their souls, so their owner can use them in the next world. If you want to take out my soul, you'd need a bigger wound than any of these. Their souls leave because they've finished their job in this world. The reason why your wounds don't kill you is that you haven't finished your job here yet. The masseuse told me there used to be more inns around here. When they shut down all operations on Mt. Iwo, a lot of inns shut down. The buildings are still in the forest. Perfect places for bandits to hide, huh? Want to go hunting at dawn? Are you okay on your own? Thank you, but I'm better at walking at night than you are. Really? Yes. We can't see with our eyes, but there are things only we can see. Oh, right, miss. Watch out for the sound of clogs in the night. Clogs? The blind bandits who appear at night... Everyone says it's the sound of clogs. But it's not. I heard it one night. It is the sound of tongues. They click their tongues and use the echoes to see. What does it sound like? How do they click their tongues? What's that sound? That sound... They've been following us the whole time! Who are you guys? There's more over here! That's Toni Anji! It's too dark to see! How do we fight? And with our dicks out, too! We can see you just fine. That was Shiraishi's voice, wasn't it? Did you get hired by the miners? We're not here to deal with you! Just let us copy your tattoo, and we'll give you a share. You're not shooting because you're willing to make a deal, right? I just don't want to hit the kid. If you don't get him out of the bath, I'll start shooting now. That's Ryu's voice! It's too noisy to make anything out. Get him out of here! Let's hide in the forest! Got him! It'll take more wounds than these to kill me! A gunshot! Toni Anji seems to be the only one with a gun. I guess they're trying to avoid shooting each other. They approached us from the direction of the inn to keep us from running toward the light. They're used to fighting in the darkness. Ogata was the only one careful enough to hide his gun near the hot springs. He's going to complain to us later. Sugimoto... Put out the light. Keep away from the light! One of them has a gun! I can't see a thing. And I've only got four bullets left. I can't waste them. Asirpa, it's me. Is this blood? Yours? Are you hurt? I'm fine. If it weren't dark, they'd be no match for me, but... If we survive until dawn, we can start our counterattack. I smell blood. Are you really going? I'll miss you. Goodbye, Wilk. Inkarmat... This is from my mother. Girls grow up and change so quickly. You'll become much more beautiful. If you wear this, then when we meet again, I'll recognize you. Isn't it important to you? So are you, my friend. Thank you. But I'll never see your face again. That's what my fortune-telling said my fate was. Inkarmat! Tanigaki Nispa! Where's Cikapasi? I told him to find a place to hide and stay put. They're coming. I have an idea. Follow me. Inkarmat, let's go. I found this place this afternoon. If we cross the lake and take the long route back, we should be able to get back to the inn without them finding us. Get on! What's wrong, Inkarmat? I'm sorry. I can't swim. And I have a terrible premonition. I've handled boats like this since I was a kid. I've gone fishing at night. I know how to use them! If I wanted you gone, I would've left you here to die. Now get on! More to the left. Throw it again. They're trying to judge the distance! Tanigaki Nispa! I see. You're sending me to the next world, aren't you? This is my fate. To die without ever seeing him again. The fortunes spoke true. Tanigaki Nispa, you were shot! It's fine. It passed through my butt. Hey, are you mocking me? No, I just had the strangest dream. That's why I was laughing. Fate can be changed. Sorry to interrupt your fun, but we should go. No! Dawn's coming. Hurry, we're getting out of here! We'll be totally exposed! Ryu? The tables have turned. Sugimoto! Ogata... Toni Anji and his men went inside. That's their hideout. If we go back to get our guns, they'll escape. Let's head inside and finish this now. Asirpa, stay outside. It's dark. I'm going in and opening the windows. What is this? They've nailed the windows shut. Sugimoto! Run! Sugimoto! Asirpa? How did you get in? Where's Ogata? We split up. It's not safe to move. What do we do? Where is it coming from? I can't see anything. This is their home. They can see us perfectly. Those are pekanpe. You miners and Warden Inudou must suffer! We'll take back everything you gained by stealing the prisoner's lives and sight! Take this, you goddamn bastard! Where are you, Sugimoto? Are you okay? Don't move, Asirpa! You attacked innocent Ainu villages. Justice isn't on your side, you thieves! That's right. We're starving and blind. It's the only way to survive. We didn't kill anybody who was innocent. Eventually you will. You can tell? Even I can see it... You can't go back to who you were! It's been a long time, Toni Anji. That voice! What are you doing here? Fighting Warden Inudou. We meet again, miss. Mr. Dick! How'd you find us? The dog outside helped us. We had information that Toni Anji was lurking in this area. Sugimoto, can you leave Toni to us? If you'll let me copy his tattoos. But Asirpa's relatives live around here. I'd feel safer if you killed him and skinned him. You live in the dark, hiding, then coming out at night to harm others. If you keep this up, your life will never escape from the darkness. I guess you're right. Warden Inudou was lending out the prisoners to work at Mt. Iwo, and using that money to buy weapons. He even had a Maxim gun. It's likely that he's hiding other powerful weapons again. And they found you before you could discover where those weapons were being held. Is that correct, Private Usami? Tsukishima, make him sit. Do you understand how difficult it was to get you hired as a guard there? You're so close! I'm going to draw a little stick figure on this mole and make it run! It's running! I'll make the other mole run, too! My head is going to boil over! The two moles are running as hard as they can. But they'll never get closer. The poor things. Inkarmat and Kiroranke... I wish I could just write it all off as a trap of Lt. Tsurumi's. I had suspicions of my own and called an old friend to this city. I'll take photos of both of them and have someone look into it. Why are we taking photos all of a sudden? I wanted to send a photo of Asirpa to Huci. We should all take one while we're here. Hijikata, I wanted to give you what I've been keeping safe for so long. Sugimoto, is it? When I fought him, it brought back memories. He reminds me of the young man you were, Hijikata, when we met at Abashiri prison. As fierce as a demon, but somehow kind. Sorry, but do I really have to take my clothes off? Everybody else did. Looking good! Spread your legs a little more! Next Time: "On the Night of the New Moon." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 10 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [4A15895A] Huci's probably harvesting grain right now. The flocks of wild geese in the skies are a sign that the salmon which bring us treasure are coming up the river. We call the salmon "Kamuycep," "the fish of the gods." Or "sipe," "real food." Sugimoto, get that for me. It's kutci. Kiwi berries. This kutci is great, Asirpa. It's so sweet. If you eat too much kutci, your anus starts to itch. So eat a lot, Sugimoto. The Ainu of the east call wild strawberries "salmon strawberries," because when they turn red, it's time for the salmon to come up the river. The Ainu look forward to the salmon every year, huh? Look, Sugimoto. A bear made that with their claws. At this time of year, bears eat nothing but kiwi berries, so sometimes their meat will taste like kutci, too. You really know a lot, Asirpa. My aca taught me everything. About the mountains, the Ainu... Everything. Sugimoto... I'm scared. If the Nopperabo who killed the Ainu and stole their gold is my father... What do I do then? Asirpa, we've come so far that you have to meet him. No matter what happens, I'm with you until the end. Abashiri Prison is surrounded by mountains. There are several dozen posts with armed guards. It's particularly well-guarded on the sides with mountains, because that's where the prisoners are kept. They're not just worried about escapes. They're worried about people coming to take Nopperabo. Which means we need to go through the wall on the Abashiri side, where it's less guarded. Here. We can only pull this plan off now, while the salmon are spawning. We'll use an Ainu hut to hide the tunnel entrance. You can't build this here! Somebody's here. Take this thing down! You don't need to build it here, do you? So you want even more salmon? What do you mean? We made a deal. Three salmon a day in exchange for the right to fish here. Ask those guards. You guys were taking bribes? We want five. Or you take that down. Got it? We'd be better off letting the foxes get them! Chief Kadokura, make sure you don't tell Warden Inudou. Of course, you idiot. Salmon used to be the Ainu's primary food source. In years when there were very few salmon, people starved. That's why we use every part of the salmon. Chop off the head, then cut out the cartilage, called "hizu," in the middle of the upper jaw. There's a dish you can make with it. Sugimoto, do you know what it is? Don't tell me... No way! Is it what I think it is? Chitatap! Did you hear that? Chitatap! "Chitatap" originally just referred to the kind made from salmon. So it's the chitatap of all chitataps! Ow! Stop grabbing me! You make chitatap from the gills and hizu. The more you mince it, the better it gets. Chitatap, chitatap, chitatap, chitatap, chitatap, chitatap... Can I use this to make chitatap? Chitatap. Chitatap. Chitatap. Ogata... Everybody else is saying chitatap. If you're not willing to say it for real chitatap, when will you say it? I wanted everyone to come together. Chitatap. He said it! Did you hear that? Ogata just said "chitatap"! You didn't hear it?! This is "chiporosayo," salmon roe in porridge. This is "cipor rataskep," crushed potatoes mixed with roe. It's soft and easy to chew! So this is real "chitatap," huh? We just caught the fish, so it doesn't smell strong at all. Hinna, hinna! The skewered fish is nice and fatty, too. Inkarmat, was it? You got a man? Hey! Here. What are you doing, Cikapasi? If a girl goes to boy's house and makes him a meal, and he eats half of it and gives it back, then she eats the rest, that makes them betrothed. An Ainu proposal, basically? Why not be a real family? I like it! Hot! Cikapasi, give that back. Oh, it's complicated, huh? Tanigaki Nispa... You were watching Abashiri Prison from the other side of the river. You don't think Nopperabo is Wilk. But you came all the way here because a part of you hopes he is, right? You're right. I wandered alone as an orphan until I met him in Otaru. The time I spent with him was too beautiful. It still has a hold on me. But my fortune-telling said we'll never meet again. Every time another of my fortunes came true, my desire to see him only grew. And then I heard of his death. It was impossible. The reason I was never going to see him again was my own death. That's what my fortune-telling said. But when I looked into his death, I met Lt. Tsurumi, who said he had his belongings. Wilk was dead. And the Nopperabo in the prison knew the location of the gold, and was working with Kiroranke. That's what he said. For a while, I was satisfied that maybe my fortune-telling wasn't always right. But when I was drowning in the lake, I felt it. I truly was destined to die then. But you changed the fate my fortune-telling laid out for me. I learned that fate can be changed! You may not understand this, but for the moment, I have hope that I can see Wilk again. But it's not a desire to see someone I love. It's because I want to free myself from my past. I want to go into the future with you, Tanigaki Nispa! I still have a job of my own... To bring Asirpa back to Huci. When the time comes, I'll give you that half-eaten bowl of food. He's eating Tanigaki Nispa's food! Hey, Kiroranke. Where does this come out? Is this really okay? We dug the distance Hijikata Toshizou told us to. We have to believe him. I sure as hell hope we don't poke our heads out into the guards' tavern. Welcome. Just as planned. Where are we? My lodgings. Warden Inudou's orders are that Nopperabo be moved to a different cell every day. But I can tell you exactly where he'll be moved. On the night of the next full moon, Nopperabo will be moved here, to Cell #66 in Building 4. If we break in, get Asirpa in front of Nopperabo, and leave without a trace, we win. If we fail, they'll find the tunnel and Kadokura will be a wanted man. If that happens, I'll follow you, Hijikata. Before he died, my father fought with you on the side of the old shogunate. He'd be happy to see me follow you. If Nopperabo is Asirpa's father, will it be hard to get him out? He's had one of his Achilles tendons cut, so it will be very hard, but not impossible. There's no need to take the risk to get him out. If my father really is Nopperabo... Stop hiding down there and come up. I've heard about you. Ogata Hyakunosuke is the son of the mistress of the former leader of the 7th Division. For somebody who just deserted to get the gold, you have a complicated backstory. Like hell do I want to run the 7th. What a pain in the ass that would be. Don't tell me you guys trust each other, either. Inkarmat, have you ever used fortune-telling to see who Nopperabo is? Many times. Many times! It always comes back, "No." In other words, he's not Asirpa's father. But lately, there's been more and more yeses. Which side is winning now? I just did it a while ago. Out of 1,000 tries, I just got the 500th "yes." Then... will you do it one last time? Shiraishi? Never mind. We don't need the uncertainty. We just need to go find out for ourselves. And finally, on a black, moonless night... Inkarmat, Cikapasi, Nagakura, and Ienaga, you stay in the kotan. Ogata, you hide in the mountains. Back us up with your rifle if we need it. Tanigaki, you stand by with the log rafts we hid by the riverside. Kiroranke, Ushiyama, Hijikata, you stand by in the lodging house. Shiraishi, Asirpa, and myself will sneak inside Nopperabo's prison. The lights are off in the prison. We'll run right through the darkness and get close to it. Toni Anji will take the lead. The sound of the wind is strong tonight, but I can tell where I am in relation to the buildings. And it will hide the sound of my tongue clicking. Okay, let's go! Who are you people? They found us already! Toni, do you have gunk in your ears? How the hell did you miss them, moron? You morons missed the lamp! Shh! We've got this! Go! Starting tomorrow, Chief Kadokura's an unemployed and wanted man. We're off to a bad start. This is it. The Five Radial Wards of Abashiri Prison. They are capable of holding over 700 prisoners, and at the center of the five wings is a central watchtower that can see the whole area. All the windows have bars. Except one. The one on the ceiling. It's the only way in. I can hear you! Man, it sure is windy tonight. Yes. Whoa! Oh no, my cup... Ow! Are you okay? Did you cut yourself? Don't worry, Chief Kadokura. We'll clean it up for you. Thanks... Aca... Asirpa, come here. Ushiyama, where did Hijikata go? He's not here? There's something not right about that old man. Aca? Aca... is that you? It's me. Asirpa. I came from Otaru to see you. Shiraishi. Match. No... that's not Aca! Intruders! Kadokura! Sugimoto! Asirpa! Run, Asirpa! Sugimoto! Huh? My gun's not working! Neither is mine! You must have never cleaned them! Is this Kiroranke's buddy? The one Inkarmat was talking about? Enemy attack! Get the hell up! Are you with Kiroranke? Well?! So he's a double. Seriously? Would you go that far? I don't know, but... Somebody's set us up. You guys need to stay here. Wait, Toni! Sugimoto is still... Where are we going? The tunnel's the other way! I'll bring you to the real one! Warden Inudou! Intruders in Ward 4! They've finally come for Nopperabo? This is not good! Get back here, now! Inkarmat? What are you doing here? Tanigaki Nispa, run. If you stay here, you'll get caught up in it, too. There they are! There they are! I told them you'd send a telegram to Otaru under a false name. Inkarmat, what did you— I'm seeing lights coming up Abashiri River! They're almost to the bridge! Calm down. Just remember your training. The bridge! They really attacked? The 7th is here! So they were watching us? You shouldn't underestimate an intelligence officer, I guess. That's the only bridge connecting us to the opposite shore! It'll buy us time! Get ready to fight! The bridge has been destroyed. Yes! This is what I've been waiting for! Rear Admiral Koito Heiji, Commander of the Ominato Guard District... Second Lieutenant Koito's father. Go. We've passed the remains of the bridge! We'd take fewer casualties if we were just creepy creatures who feed on the orcas after they kill each other. No matter how well-armed they are, they're still just prison guards. Tonight, we're the hunting orcas! Capture Nopperabo and Asirpa! Next Time: "Overwhelmed." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 11 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [C12753DC] The 7th Division is attacking! We're going to be killed! Open the doors! Sugimoto, what the hell do we do? We have no choice but to run! You're the Escape King, so think of a way to get us out! I'm afraid you still need to stay here. So you were with Lt. Tsurumi this whole time, Inkarmat? Sugimoto's group has failed. Now that this has happened, only Lt. Tsurumi can get Nopperabo and Asirpa out. But then the 7th will get the Ainu gold! Are you okay with that? It doesn't matter to me, or to you, who gets the gold, does it? Women are terrifying. Follow your training, and get to your positions! Put the Maxim guns on both sides of the gate! Concentrate your fire on them when they break through the gate! We'll rip them all apart. And then we won't need to buy pig food for a long while. We'll escape into the tunnel! Hurry! Fire! Don't you want to see your father? This is bad. Time to get the hell out! That's the wall facing the Abashiri River. They outsmarted us! Lt. Tsurumi, what do you intend to tell Central Command? Locusts. Locusts? It's happened before. In 1882, the Japanese army used ship cannons in an attempt to disperse locusts. Here's the scenario. In order to disperse a swarm of locusts moving up the eastern coastline of Hokkaido, we requested aid from Rear Admiral Koito, Commander of the Ominato Guard District. Yup. During our return to Shari, a riot broke out at Abashiri Prison. We arrived to help end it. Nobody from the mainland is going to come all the way out to the ends of the earth to investigate either story for themselves. They never do. They just read what we send them. If even a single person from the prison survives, that's not going to work. Survivors? From the prison? That's the goddamn army! We can't beat them! I'm surrendering! But I heard you'll be killed. That's a lie! It's a lie Warden Inudou spread to get us to fight! There they are! Don't shoot! I surrender! Hurry! To the cells! They've come to kill us all! If you don't fight, the reaper will overwhelm you! Inkarmat! Inkarmat! Where are you? Tanigaki Nispa! Inkarmat! Inkarmat! Run... I can't let you die here! Move! Ushiyama! Go. Now. Ushiyama, get out of there! You two... had better damn well be happy together. No! Ushiyama! Umph! My jacket got dirty. Those are the star shells that were used in the Russo-Japanese War. Sergeant Tsukishima, do it. They threw something! Charge forward, and kill them all! Shiraishi, what are you doing? There's a narrow space under each cell that allows air in and out. Shut up, damn it! Keep your damned mouth shut! Did you know he was a fake? Did Kadokura know, too? After we escaped, Warden Inudou secretly switched out Nopperabo for a decoy. Kadokura spent seven years seeing Nopperabo every day. He's not stupid enough to have not noticed. Did he know that when he sent them in there? Just come with us, Asirpa. You'll miss your chance. There they are! What are you doing? Run! Where's Nopperabo? Usami?! Immortal Sugimoto... I need to save Sugimoto. If he's not with me, I'm not going. If he sees his daughter, Nopperabo will tell us where the gold is. That was our hope. That's why we all came here. Sugimoto included, he cares more about the gold than his own life. Get back! Just so we're clear, I haven't gotten the location of the gold from him yet! Where is my Aca? I've got sixty-three of my men with me. Do you think you can get away from us like that? Let's find out! All of you, throw down your weapons and— Nikaidou! Let me go! I'll kill him! That was the deal! Idiot! What if it hits Nopperabo? All of you, out of the building! I'll blow his head off! You got that? Chief Kadokura! It's good to see you again! What's with that mole? Sorry, Chief Kadokura. I aimed for your neck. New kid... I didn't explain how this worked yet, did I? It's a device that unlocks every single cell, first used in Kabato Prison. Are you ready to fight 700 deadly criminals? Affix bayonets! Exterminate every last one of them! Sugimoto! Sugimoto? That old bastard Hijikata must've set this whole thing up. If Toni Anji was working with him, then Asirpa might be with Hijikata right now. If he sent us into the cell block with the fake Nopperabo and stirred up a ruckus, he knew Inudou would panic and head for the place where the real Nopperabo was kept. That was the plan all along. While Kadokura kept us here, he would bring Asirpa to meet her father, learn the location of the gold, and escape. He plans to use this chance to separate me from Asirpa, because he knows I'll get in his way eventually. Okay! All you have to do to get out is dislocate both shoulders. I can't do that! Damn it! Is there no way out? I'll find something I can use to break the wall. I'll find my own way out. Go look for Asirpa. When you get her, wait at the main gate. Take care of her, Shiraishi! There he is. I knew it. The chapel. Inudou goes there every day to practice, so I was already suspicious of it. But no matter how many times Kadokura searched the place, he couldn't find any hidden rooms. So Aca is here, right? We catch Inudou when he tries to move Nopperabo. Are you okay? Let's get into the building. My eardrums hurt. Asirpa's gone! Huh? She headed back to Sugimoto, huh? She vanished the second she heard where Nopperabo was. Tough little girl, that one. Do we bring her back? No, for now we need to get Inudou. I guess I'll have to use these to make him believe. Quiet! Hurry! Hurry! Shiraishi! Asirpa! Where's Sugimoto? Trapped beneath the floors of the cells. The air duct was so small that only I could get out. Wait, wait. Don't go. There are too many solders. But... Fine. I'll save Sugimoto. Take him to the chapel. Hijikata Toshizou says that's where Nopperabo is. We can't do that, either. Sugimoto told us to wait at the main gate. No. I need to meet Aca and see if it's really him. You can't go back to Hijikata! He's trying to separate you from Sugimoto! From Sugimoto? Once I save Sugimoto, I'll go to the chapel. I'll try to find some way to get Nopperabo to the main gate. Wait. Give this to Sugimoto. How the hell do you dislocate your shoulders? Sugimoto! Kiroranke! Are you stupid? There's no way out of that. What will you do? Jam grenades between the wall and the dirt. Find a safe place. Hey, wait— Did he fart? The chapel? Asirpa said to show this to Nopperabo. It's Asirpa's makiri. The one her father made. Wait at the main gate. I'm worried about leaving her alone with Shiraishi. I'll take Nopperabo there. Tell Asirpa I promise she'll see him soon. Okay. I hear something from below. So there was a basement? Get out. I'll put out both of Inudou's eyes. Till death do us part. What? Yohei, Sugimoto's going that way! Hey, look! Somebody's lying on the ground! It's Nikaidou! Is he alive? Nopperabo... I'll bring you to Asirpa. To Asirpa... Stop! Somebody's coming! It's Ushiyama and the others! Kiro! Where's Sugimoto? I rescued him from the prison. But he went to the chapel alone. He promised he'd arrange for you to see Nopperabo. Hijikata and Inudou are there, too. Let's go. You stay here. But... Inkarmat. Maybe I can get a better view from up high. Blue eyes! Next Time: "Call Out." ▶ [LostYears] Golden Kamuy S2 - 12 (WEB 720p Hi10 AAC) [CF15A0CF] Blue eyes... Do you know what this is? That's... ...the Makiri I made for Asirpa. Why do you have it? So it was true. Nopperabo really is Asirpa's father? Is she... here? Come with me! You're telling me everything! If you want to know where the gold is, bring Asirpa to me! I'll only tell my daughter! Enomoto Takeaki is now a viscount! And Hijikata Toshizou is an aged, fugitive prisoner! If you'd only agreed to join the new Meiji government's army... You wouldn't have spent more than thirty years in chains! Beg for your life! Obey me! Serve me! Polish my boots every day, and do whatever it takes to keep me happy! After all these years, you're still telling me to join the Meiji government? You people in the new government returned the loyalty shown to you by the Tokugawas with hatred, and yet now you demand loyalty from the people. You're scared. The soldiers of the old shogunate who became martyrs scare you more than anything else. In order to justify your brother, who died in the Battle of Hakodate, as well as your own life, you needed to lock me away until I became one of you. And when that moment comes, the revenge of Inudou Shirosuke will be complete! Until this moment, you've been unable to bear the fact that a peasant from the countryside like me was more loyal than the samurai! I'll make you obey me, even if I have to cut off your limbs! I'm still young enough to take you alive. Do it, last of the samurai. You're going to tell me where the gold is, but first, there's something I've wanted to say to you for a long time. To tell you the truth, I don't want Asirpa to see you! She was terrified that the man who killed the Ainu and stole their gold might really be her father. Why did you tell Hijikata Toshizou the name Kochoube Asuko? Why did you get Asirpa involved? To entrust her with the future. I made it so Asirpa could hide in the mountains, fighting as a guerrilla. My daughter will be a leader of the Ainu. Lead the Ainu? You want to use her for an Ainu independence movement? You want her to be the Ainu Jeanne d'Arc? What's wrong? We haven't had enough fun here yet! Come say hello to my friend here! You want to make her a murderer like us? Sure, maybe what you're doing is right! Maybe somebody has to fight! But it doesn't... it doesn't have to be her! I want Asirpa to hunt deer in the mountains, eat their brains, turn them into chitatap, and say, "Hinna, hinna!" That girl seems to have had quite an effect on you, Sisam. That kimono... Red prisoner's clothes... And next to him... Asirpa, get up here! Well? Can you see her? Inkarmat... Nopperabo must be close! Find him! Over there! Aca... It's a red-haired Kimun Kamuy. Asirpa... You defeat it. Aca? The poison got it. Congratulations, Asirpa. You didn't get scared, and your movements were precise. You're still so young, but you fought and defeated a bear! I'm sorry. I'm so proud of you, daughter. Your mustache stinks. Asirpa... My daughter. You are the future of the Ainu. Well, Asirpa? Is that your father? Well? It's Aca. You're sure that's Wilk? What's the look on her face? Aca... Why? I wasn't the one who killed the Ainu. Tell Asirpa that. The gold— Wilk was shot! Sugimoto! Asirpa, run. Now. Now the only key to the mystery of the gold is within you. Everyone will start killing each other over you! Aca! Sugimoto! They're goners! Give up! Let go of me! Let go! We're leaving, Asirpa! I won't believe it! I won't leave them! Let me go! They're right there! No! Let go! Aca! Sugimoto! Whoever shot them is close! Sugimoto? Seriously? What do we do? I'll go. You stay close to Asirpa. Wait by the spare ship. Tanigaki Nispa, don't go! You'll be shot, too! A little further to the left, huh? That goddamn Matagi... Inkarmat! What's wrong? What happened? When Wilk was shot... Kiroranke gave a signal to someone. Kiroranke? Private Tanigaki Genjirou... This is probably the spare ship. Let's wait for everyone here. Huh? Where's Inkarmat? You know why the 7th was able to find out everything we did, right? That woman's the only possible reason! We can't take her with us. Get the ship ready. We're leaving. Tanigaki was caught by Lt. Tsurumi's men. And Aca and Sugimoto? I got close and looked, but both were dead. Immortal Sugimoto... How does it feel to be missing part of your brain? We're brain damage pals now! I can't believe a murderer like you was such a great doctor. They say there's a thin line between genius and insanity, but... I've done lots of cranial surgeries while pursuing my hobby of torture. I would cut out their brains little by little, then fry and eat them in front of the victim while they were still conscious. With ginger soy sauce! Well, only someone like Sugimoto, with his incredible capacity for recovery, could've survived that. Inkarmat is the one who's in danger. If you want to learn anything from her, do it now. Kiroranke and his friends must've gone to Karafuto. We'll get on another ship at the port. Get a hold of yourself. Let's go, Asirpa. The sound of the gun that shot Wilk and Sugimoto was covered up by the roar of the star shells. I didn't hear it. Only Ogata could fire a shot like that. I felt him when I was shot. Was there a need to shoot Sugimoto? Right after we learned that Nopperabo was her father, he and Sugimoto exchanged words. Whether it was the location of the gold, or the key to cracking some code only Asirpa knows... Or perhaps it was about you? He might be alive, you know. With Asirpa taken from him, Immortal Sugimoto is probably real pissed off. I'll murder Ogata and Kiroranke both. Henmi Kazuo, Nihei Tetsuzou... You did a good job of catching them. So what proves that Kiroranke's group made it to Karafuto? Wait! I just saw you on the roof— Take Asirpa! This woman is dangerous! Don't believe him, Asirpa! Kiroranke just... Shut up! You'll pay for what you did to Wilk! I didn't mean to stab— Let go! If we don't do something, the bigger countries will just swallow us up! Why did Wilk have to die? Because he changed! The plan was to tell our old comrades where the gold was! After killing the seven Ainu, Nopperabo took a small amount of the gold and headed to Karafuto. He was captured on the way. I think he was carrying reliable information with him. He was planning to bring in their main force. With Asirpa, the critical key, in his possession, Kiroranke will probably try to meet up with his former guerrilla friends in the far east. If those partisans get their hands on Asirpa, we'll have a problem. I'll get her back! Take me to Karafuto. Without me, she won't trust you. I'll go, too. Asirpa trusts us and nobody else. You're sure? I'll come back, I promise. Stay alive until then. I'll never forgive you if you die. Bring back Asirpa, please! Asirpa! You ate some of my brains, didn't you? I still have clean-up work to do at Abashiri, so I can't leave yet. For now, we're going to send a small force ahead of the rest of us. Sergeant Tsukishima, Lieutenant Koito... You go with them! "Why do I have to leave you, Lt. Tsurumi?" he asks. It is a request from your father, Admiral Koito. The 7th knew exactly what we were doing at Abashiri. That means Old Man Nagakura and the others at the kotan may have been captured. In two or three days, things will calm down up there. And there'll be fewer soldiers in the area. Just wait until then. Did Inudou make this? It seems he was gathering information about the escaped prisoners to lure me to Abashiri. Some of this is information we don't have. If the skins we had are now in Lt. Tsurumi's hands... We need to get at least one of the others so we can stop him from breaking the code. I thought Abashiri had turned out to be a waste of time, but at the very last moment, we found a glimmer of light. We're leaving here and going to the south! Sugimoto... You want to send your kid on a journey, huh? He might not come back alive. He's ready to die. My son will be a leader of men someday. And a leader has to take responsibility for many young lives. I need him to be a man who's worthy of that. When Lieutenant General Hanazawa committed seppuku, he sent me a letter. His son, Yuusaku, had died on the front lines, upholding the honor of his foolish father. The war our generation started sent the sons of many of our citizens to battle. If I keep my own son from danger, what can I say to those whose sons died? I think Nopperabo was the same way. He was telling the Ainu to die, so first, he had to send his own daughter into battle. He didn't raise her just to be used, I think. Sugimoto... Asirpa. Sugimoto... You're... I couldn't bring you to meet your father. I'm sorry I couldn't keep my promise. Aca... left on his journey, then? I'm sorry. Just wait. I'll come for you. I swear I'll come for you! This is a dream. If the kamuy are trying to tell me something, there must be some meaning. No! Asirpa! It's not the kamuy that are speaking! It's me! I'm alive! And there's so much I want to tell you! What's wrong, Asirpa? I dreamed about Sugimoto. He said he was coming for me. That dream might be true. I just can't imagine him dying. What are you saying, Shiraishi? Of course he's not dead. Just wait, Asirpa... He's... I'm... ...Immortal Sugimoto!

Pyroneko ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 01 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [E442BDEA] Huki leaves are a spring food that can be eaten raw. Ainu children enjoy them as snacks when they're out playing. But the area around your lips turns black when you eat them, so people can tell you did. To the Ainu, there are only really two seasons: winter and summer. Winter is the men's season, when they go into the mountains to hunt. And when the ice melts and turns to water, the women's season, matnepa, comes. That's when you pick lots of herbs and vegetables to preserve. You prepare during summer, so you won't have to worry about starving in the long winter to come. From now on, the women in every kotan are about to be very busy. Oh, looks like somebody's here. You can stay seated. Who could be here this early? Hello. Do you need something? Good morning. I've heard you deal in taxidermy. Yes, that's right. Please, come inside. I have a lot I can show you. Thank you. I was hoping to get some mounts for the 7th Division's guesthouse. You're as good as the rumors say. There are so many good pieces. I don't know what to choose! Even a polar bear. Sometimes I just import the pelts and put them over models I make here. Is this one still being worked on? Why is it upside down? If you hang them like that, the skin and feathers plump up and make it more realistic. The true test of a taxidermist's skill is how well he can recreate what they looked like in life. If you don't mind my asking, is there sufficient demand for taxidermists in Yuubari to sustain your business? A kitty! It's a kitty! No, most of my business comes from overseas. Wealthy people all over the world want taxidermy mounts of animals you can only find in Japan. I was born in Nara originally, but I moved to Hokkaido, where the temperature is low and the air is dry, in an attempt to improve my craft. You live alone here in Yuubari? No, I live with my mother. I'm afraid she can't join us. She has a bad hip. Oh no, don't worry about it. I see. The most important part of a good mount is having fresh materials. In other words, you need fresh corpses. You're very particular about your work and take a great deal of pride in it. The ideal craftsman! No, I... Edogai... I came to give you your glove back. Oh, what could that sound be? Something seems strange. Yasaku, did you hurt yourself? Are you all right? It's nothing! I just dropped a mount! I've never seen that glove before. It's not mine. You thought you'd escaped us last night, correct? We pretended we'd lost you, and then followed you here. Edogai... Think he's got it? There was a rumor several months ago about a coal miner who'd died in an accident, a man with a strange tattoo. We dug up the grave, but it was empty. Which means it was stolen by a grave robber. Drifters often end up working as miners, and they often don't survive long. The air here is cool and dry, and bodies don't rot even when buried. Which means that Yuubari is an excellent source of fresh corpses. I don't know what you're talking about. Just leave! Night after night you dug up fresh corpses from the graveyard, stripping off their skin to make this glove, didn't you? Wonderful! Can I have one, too? What? Even after heavy use, it's still comfortable and soft against the skin! And it fits perfectly, right down to the tips of the fingers, so your fingers can move freely enough to pick up tiny coins! I've never seen a leather glove like this before! You didn't come to arrest me? Catching grave robbers isn't my job. I'm sorry. That glove isn't made from human skin. It's pigskin. Pigs? The "nails" were made from pig hooves and glued on. To tell you the truth, I'd gone to the graveyard to dispose of a large amount of waste products from my work. I thought you had found me. Next Time: "Fakes." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 02 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [9E7E17FC] How many times do I have to tell him? Next Time: "Let's Talk About the Past." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 03 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [4C1BCD08] A corpse wearing a military uniform? Next Time: "The Great Plan to Infiltrate The Asahikawa 7th Division!" ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 04 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [D89264FC] Don't let him get away! Tokap! Cikapasi, enough . Tokap! Inudou... Next Time: "Inside the Belly." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 05 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [28F8DB70] I am Inudou Shirosuke, Warden of Abashiri Prison. We'll hide in the deer's bodies! Next Time: "Ani Nekko." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 06 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [4CA0C326] Looks like they're nowhere near us. How? Next Time: "Kamuy Hopunire." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 07 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [6ADBFF22] We finally found you! Sunmohan! Sunmohan! Sunmohan! Sunmohan! That's what I'm talking about, Second Lt. Koito. Next Time: "Blue Eyes." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 08 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [AD11ED8E] Sunfish? Next Time: "The Sound of an Ambush." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 09 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [F55520D7] Pekanpe? There's a hot springs inn run by Japanese people near here. Next Time: "On the Night of the New Moon." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 10 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [0777E901] Huci's probably harvesting grain right now. Next Time: "Overwhelmed." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 11 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [00DA828D] The 7th Division is attacking! Wait, wait. Don't go. There are too many soldiers. But... Blue eyes! Next Time: "Call Out." ▶ [Pookie] Golden Kamuy S2 - 12 [BD 1600x900 x264 FLAC] [AAC9397D] Blue eyes... With Asirpa taken from him, Immortal Sugimoto is probably really pissed off.
